Somerset Dam Accommodation - The Lock Up

Originally the Somerset Police Station, 'The Lock Up' as it's affectionately known today remains much as it did throughout its official use from 1937 to 1964, still with the original single gaol (jail) cell attached to the rear of the house.

- 4 Bedrooms (sleeps 12) – 1 Queen, 1 Queen, 1 Single & 1 Bunk (Single Top & Bottom), 1 Bunk (Double Bottom, Single Top), Double pullout sofa, pillows and doonas provided, BYO linen
- Fans in every room, air conditioning in the kitchen and lounge room (will cool/heat the whole house)

Fantastic home

So comfortable. Plenty of room for all of us. Clean and pet friendly. Kitchen had everything to prepare and serve. Party area out back with bbq boombox and lovely comfortable dining table/chairs and wicker lounge. The laundry was perfect complete with dryer. We the family will definitely be rebooking. So much better than camping. Thank you Steve. Well done

Great place for family get together

We were very happy with the location, so close to the Dam. We had plenty of room for our two families, 10 people in total. Check in was easy, the bird life and koala spotting was a highlight. We look forward to staying there again.

Family stay for wedding

There were 11 of us staying so the deck was the main area to get together and relax. Very comfortable. It is a very comfortable basic house with nearly everything you needed. Maybe some bowls for salads and chips and some serving plates for platters would be something that could be supplied and some hanging hooks in 2 of the bedrooms. The hot water system did well and didnt run out. Great having the 2 toilets. Enough plates, cups, glasses. Note that you cannot park on the driveway in front of the garages, would be good to have that noted in the description. Close to Coronation Hall. Recommend a stay here.

Quiet and comfortable

Cheap, comfortable and communicative host. Great location to general store and dam access. Heater bars on the deck were a rare treat. Very quiet area especially in Winter, nice getaway spot for a small group.

Lovely getaway

Was a very nice weekend away from the city check in process was easy and the property was a perfect fit for my weekend away. Would of loved to have been able to look inside the jail even just the look through hatch, but other than that no complaints

Unique stay

Stayed at the lock up for a wedding at coronation hall. House is conveniently located near the general store and across from coronation hall. Property was clean and had everything we needed even if we only really slept there. Would love to stay again for an actual holiday in future.

Christmas stay.

The house is large with plenty of room to suit family and friends. Well equipped with everything you need, Has an awesome deck out back where we spent most of our time cooking and relaxing. Owner Steve was great and easy to communicate with, kindly allowing us extra guests. We would definitely stay here again.

Enjoyable family getaway

The lock up is a wonderful family holiday home. Great entertaining deck, where we spent all of our time when not sleeping or preparing meals. Would have been great to see/go in the cell for the novelty, however it is fully locked without being able to see inside. The sheds are rented out so parking is on the grass, it was a bit awkward when people turned up to pick up their boars & we are on the deck watching. Overall a wonderful holiday home with most all things needed. Hope to come back one day!

Ski trip to the dam

Easily accommodated 10 people (4 adults and 6 kids aged 10 to 15). Close to the spit so only a few minutes drive from the dam. Good space to park car and boat. We enjoyed a BBQ and drink on the large deck. Quiet despite being on main road. Would stay/book again.

Great location for Somerset Dam

The lockup is always a great place to stay when you have a large group and several cars and boat trailers etc. Caters for 6 people well with clean bedrooms, comfy beds, full equipped kitchen and spacious back deck to unwind after a big day in the dam. Steve is easy to deal with with great communication and easy check in process.

Christmas Stay

Pleasant stay

Our family (Grandparents/Sons/grandchildren stayed for 3 nights for some watersports at Somerset Dam. Accommodation is in close proximity and despite being on the main road is peaceful. Several areas to relax and chat with others.

Best family weekend ever!

We were lucky enough to stay at "The Lock Up" for my 40th birthday weekend. We were tubing at the dam through the day and the nights were back at the house. We spent most of the time outside on the verandah, it was so good!! The house had everything we needed and Steve is an awesome host!! He was so quick to reply to messages and helped in anyway he could. I know it will be a weekend that my family and myself will remember forever and we can't wait to go back and stay there again!! Thanks again for making such an awesome weekend even better!! :)

About the host

Hosted by Steve Yates

Passionate about the water and the town of Somerset, my family has a long history with the town with my parents having various properties over the years from the late 60's through to the late 80's. Both were skiers and dad was a championship barefooter in his day.

As kids we spent nearly every second weekend in Somerset and I have so many fond memories growing up in the town that it felt only natural for me to return and buy my own place. I now get to share the opportunity for other people and families to make their own memories by making the property available for holiday rentals.
