About this property

Fly Fishing Lodge - Stay only or go fishing

Located on a working dairy farm, this homestay has two bedrooms with attached ensuites - bedroom one has 1 king size bed-or 2 single beds (sleep 2)(you can see fish swimming from your bed)
Bedroom two has 1 double bed and 1single bed atop plus 1 bunk bed (sleep 5)
Also 1 sofa bed in main family room
Fly fishing club outing sleep up to 8.
Main family room has kitchenette with gas stove top-sink and cupboards with crockery for 8 -microwave.
A gas BBQ is situated outside on the landing over the water.
Open fireplace for cosy fires in the winter or when its cold- allows you to cook toast and marsh mellows or boil a billy- just like everybody did in times past.
Wood for the fire is accessible from a port in the wall next to the fire.
TV and piano for those who can play Main room opens on to the landing where you can sit and enjoy the scenery or if you are fishing you can have a go at tying your own flies. CAREFUL the water is cold and deep-10 feet or 3m at the landing and swimming is permitted - maybe skin divers can test their equipment there - a ladder facilitates getting out of the water.
Building is built from Mt Gambier limestone and is double glazed -makes for a very quiet stay.
What the "Fly Fishing Lodge" is aimed at is fishing with flies only (a catch and release ) because of the expense and effort to grow them to big size it is no good to have them eaten- We now have other ponds where fish can be caught to be eaten. 3 lakes of about an acre are for fishing and some of this water is used for irrigation for our 800 dairy cows.
Lakes are dug into limestone and sealed to hold pristine quality water-banks are solid and not slippery and a minimum of obstacles to tangle your fly.
Bring your own fly rod and gear -we have limited gear for beginners to tie their own flies .
We are located on a working family dairy farm where we with4 or so employees milk up to 800 holstein cows- tours of the dairy can be arranged subject to time and what is happening.
Sorry NO PETS please.
Finding our place can be a problem until google maps can be CORRECTED , so turn off the Riddoch Hwy at Post Office Rd ,right into Ellis Rd, left into Telfords Rd-or turn off the Nelson Rd (Glenelg River Rd) onto Laslett Rd,left into Ellis Rd, left into Telfords Rd---left @ 83 and keep left for about 600m. (maybe you could print this to take with you) or ring us on .
There are lots to see in our immediate area, here is just a few, Mt Schank (an almost perfect volcano, reputed to be the youngest in Australia, popular with tourists)-Nelson and the Glenelg river,(longest saltwater estury in Aust--boat trip ) Princess Margaret cave.--Tantanoola cave--Pt MacDonell SA Lobster capital ( buy a crayfish) MtGambier and environs (blue lake-valley lake) good beaches--surfing and area is famous for its skin diving (freshwater caves) . All within 20 min of Here.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay, absolutely beautiful surroundings. Nev and Barb made us feel so welcome and have wealth of knowledge about many things. Thankyou Neville for showing us around the farm and work shop, it was amazing. I’ll certainly recommend this to our friends if travelling near by. Eric

A very different and enjoyable place to stay
A very different and enjoyable place to stay. Great to see the cows getting milked and to feel the atmosphere of a working dairy farm. Nev went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. Catching a trout was the icing on the cake!

"I feel like a new person"
What an absolutely amazing experience. A diamond off the beaten track. Catching fish from the deck, having the kids experience the 'country', learning about the history of the property, experiencing the gracious hospitality of the hosts and seeing all the 'projects' that Nev has been working on with building musical instruments to fruit bunkers and even a sheep that has a liking for smarties. This is a must do for anyone who has kids that need an escape. As we headed home and were debriefing about the trip in the car, Miss 8 said "Dad, I feel like a new person and never realised that we dont need devices and that exercise is so much fun.

Disliked: Communication
Great place, but don't expect to be left alone.
The hosts invited themselves into the accommodation after I checked in and didn't seem keen to leave. They also entered the property, without telling me, while I was away, and left foot tracks all over the carpet and floors. Then the next morning the host came over unannounced and insisted I should do a tour of the property. I explained that was not the reason why I booked and wanted to be left alone. 2 hours later he showed up AGAIN insisting to show me some things he had found. Wouldn't leave after telling him multiple times I wanted to be left alone. Ended up closing the door in tears. After an issue not being able to open the door from the inside I left that night and stayed elsewhere. Book here if you don't mind having the hosts being part of your holiday. They seem like a lovely couple, but would not recommend if you want some peace and quiet and to be alone. Was not happy and called to file a complaint.

Nice time with the family
Great hospitality from Nev and Barb, wonderful place with water right around! Kids enjoyed a lot, I wish I booked a couple more days. Nev is a man of many skills and creativity , still very humble. He even drove us around to show his farm, with explanations.

Great place to stay
We loved this unique property where you can fish and do other water activities such as kayaking, boating and paddleboating right at your doorstep. It has a calm and relaxing atmosphere. The highlight of our stay was watching the sun slowly rise over the wide expanse of land with the trees and sky reflecting on the water. It was magnificent! Neville and Barb are very hospitable. Neville showed us around and even entertained us by playing his button accordion and violin! He is a very talented man! It's a holiday accommodation we will never forget.

We had an amazing time and loved meeting the hosts. We got to know a bit about the property which has so much more than just fishing. The fishing was an added bonus on top of seeing some amazing craftsmanship by the hosts. 100% recommend this beautiful place to stay, we felt so welcome that we didn't want to leave!

Relaxing Break
My family and I spent two nights at Allendale East. Coming off the back of a two week busy road trip staying at this property was just what we wanted. It provided us with a great opportunity to wind down. There was enough to keep the kids occupied and they loved canoeing and swimming in the pond along with the dairy/farm/house tour that we were given. We tried fishing too but to no avail. Next time! Thanks to Nev and Barb for their hospitality.
