Relax Italian Style
I really wanted to appreciate the Italian country lifestyle, and this was perfect. You'll need a car to experience driving on winding roads, meandering through lush paddocks, small barns, old churches, quaint villages, trattorias (that may or may not be open...) and locals that are friendly and appreciate your effort at speaking very bad Italian... The farm house itself was very clean, cool and comfortable, with all things necessary for a self-sufficient holiday. It allows you to do nothing at all, or read a book on the sun-drenched patio, or stir up a huge pasta in the well equipped kitchen. The wi-fi worked well to keep you in touch with the rest of the world. The village itself it small and friendly, but you'll need to go further for supplies. The local villagers are friendly, but not imposing. Their pets were even more fun ! You'll feel blessed going to Church, whose hourly bells remind you you're in farming territory (but it's not difficult to forget with the district views). The surrounding areas are for the foodies - parma ham, parmasen cheese, balsamic vinegar, pasta making, cooking classes - so Italian, so fresh. I had such a wonderful time, staying here and visiting local towns and cities, i extended my stay, which was no problem at all with such a helpful owner. Would highly recommend if you want to get away from busy hustle and bustle.

2023 Italian tour
My wife and the other couple we were travelling with enjoyed our week at the farmhouse in Besozzola. The house work well for us and the location although very remote was great. We met some of the local residence and learned about the history of the area and had a relaxing stay. It was a nice place to end our Italian tour this summer.

Teleurstellend

Family holiday
The house and the area were lovely. The house is well equipped and is a real home away from home. There was every cooking utensil we thought we might need - and more. Due to the very rural location (almost the middle of nowhere) we managed to see a range of wildlife including deer and wild boar and some cute neighbourhood cats too. The view from the patio is stunning, especially as the sunsets with a glass of wine. There are several cities close by to visit, Roisin recommended using the train, rather then driving into the cities which was much less stressful. Milan has to be the most beautiful railway station! We booked using the trainline app mostly though getting tickets at the station is easy enough. I would definitely hope to visit again as there was much we didn't get to do. And I would recommend to family and friends. Drawback? Biting insects - go equipped with insect repellent, stock up on citronella at the supermarket. And the church bells, I liked them but my fellow travelers were less keen. Roisin is a fabulous host, her house is lovely. Highly, highly recommend.

Wonderful Family Reunion
We couldn't have been more pleased with this villa. We had planned a Family reunion for our Mom (from Canada) with her two sisters that live in Sicilia and Piacenza. They had not been together under the same roof since childhood. The villa housed all 8 of us comfortably and the modern well fit kitchen enabled us to have many family meals around the beautiful Greatroom table. The location is secluded in a little town of a few homes and a church which we found very quaint. Day trips to Salsamajorie ( about 30min) were scenic and pleasurable once we got use to them. Coming from the flatlands of the Canadian prairie there was a learning curve! The villa is very well appointed and we found everything we needed for what was a memorable stay. Very difficult to leave from!

Peaceful Italian Village
My family thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Besozzola. The house is in a beautiful small village in the Italian countryside. The neighbours were friendly and helpful without overstepping. The house was comfortable & the kitchen was well stocked. It was the ideal spot for a peaceful holiday.

A picture of false advertising!
This property is three star at best! It is remote and poorly maintained. The inside is dark and dreary. Beds are uncomfortable with worn linen and towels. The immediate vicinity affords little by way of restaurants apart from a very rustic trattoria that only opens on request and has a very limited menu. The outside is not maintained and the beautiful view of the valley is obscured by overgrown shrubs and a 'washing line'. The patio is home to a few families of feral cats so outside dining is not possible. The golfing advertised is 7kms away and dining there is only possible on select nights and of course you must drive a very winding, often poorly surfaced road to go anywhere. The beautiful church in the hamlet rings out at 7am and several other times in the day, playing an entire melody that feels like you're in the belltower! There is little to recommend this property and I was sorely disappointed.

Secret hideaway - Home from home!
I've just returned from a visit to Emilia Romagna, where I stayed in Casa Nascosta in a small hamlet in this beautiful landscape rich in culture and history. This house is more than a rental property - it's a home from home with everything possible to make your stay as easy and comfortable as possible. The house is beautifully presented, with a lovely patio area outside to relax and enjoy the weather and stunning scenery. It's a great base for visiting all the region has to offer - from lovely towns with traditional markets, to medieval castles, wineries and the famous cheese factories. Salso Maggiore is "just over the hill", and is famous for the natural thermal spa facilities, set in an architecturally stunning building in the centre of town. Verona, Modena, Parma and the magnificent coastal area of the Chinque Terra are all within just over an hours drive. There is no shortage of restaurants, pizzerias and trattorias in the area, and it seems truly impossible to get anything other than delicious food, cooked to perfection, with a range to suit every taste! Try the trattoria in Trinita, l'Ocha Bianca, and Il Giardino di Borla for a taste of rustic dishes as they've been made for generations - all only a 10 minute drive away. If you prefer to stay home, the kitchen has all the essentials you need plus a "store cupboard" of seasonings and flavourings, provided by Roisin, the owner, who has thought of every little detail to make your holiday stress-free! If you want to get away from the rat race to a slower pace of life and see the way the locals live Casa Nascosta is the place for you! I'm thrilled to have found this secret hideaway and look forward to returning very soon to experience more of what this lovely house and region have to offer. Sent from my iPad

Wonderful place to stay to explore Italy!
Roisin and Frank have a beautiful home that is well situated for visitors to stay and then do day trips to many areas of northern Italy. The house is well equipped and well appointed and is in a picturesque village with friendly people. Roisin and Frank are easily accessible for initial arrival questions and have provided all the amenities of home - a great kitchen, updated bathrooms, wi-fi, laundry facilities, and comfortable rooms. We greatly enjoyed the opportunity to visit local villages and castles, eat at local restaurants, do some of our own cooking with local ingredients, and to be able to visit Parma, Milan, Florence, and the Cinque Terra region on day trips and to then return home to a comfortable shower and bed. The village has a beautiful local church, nice neighbors, and even friendly local cats and dogs , if you are an animal lover! The listing was indeed accurate and the house very well maintained and Roisin and Frank were a great help. We would absolutely recommend this as a great place to either base out of to explore Italy or simply stay, relax and enjoy local food and wine! If you go, be sure not to miss the local castles and take Roisin and Frank up on their recommendations on places to eat!

our short break in italy
frank and roisin had been very helpful with the information they gave us with regard to which airport to fly to, car hire and directions to the property which took about an hour to get to from bologna airport. the house is simply but adequately decorated and furnished and we located everything we needed. (on a personal note it really reminded us of a property that iain's father once owned in dinan in france. we arrived on a tuesday and due to time constraints sadly had to leave only 4 days later - we wished we could've stayed longer. It's beautifully peaceful, surrounded by a spectacular hilly landscape, and we loved it there - especially in the evenings when we sat quietly on the terrace. sipping the local red wine, being visited by hundreds of beautiful fireflies. there's hardly any light pollution which is fantastic, if like us, you have an avid interest in the stars, and even if you don't you can't fail to be 'wowed' by the clarity of them. we visited a wonderful pizzeria not far away one evening and spent a couple of hours at a local vineyard one afternoon, where, after a short tour we then bought some of the delicious sparkling white (on a par with champagne!) and red wine produced there. i had booked the trip as a little surprise getaway for my husbands 50th and i'm hoping he takes me back there for mine next summer !! here's hoping. sandra guildford and iain hughes, woking, surrey.

Great house in a charming village!
My family stayed here for a week and we loved the house. There is plenty of room and the house has everything you need and more. This is no ordinary rental this is a home. There are 4 large bedrooms here and two beautiful bathrooms. A fully equipped kitchen. Everything is nice and clean. The beds are very comfortable, do not think I've slept so well outside my own bed ever. The village is small, cozy and very quiet. World's nicest neighbors. It is a little off the beaten track but still has access to the most and is a great base for exploring the region. Car is necessary. Wireless internet worked perfectly and the youngsters in the family really enjoyed this. The pizzeria in Pellegrino is highly recommended. The best pizza I have ever tasted. We would love to come back another time. The owner is very nice and did their utmost to ensure that we were happy. Thank you for letting us borrow your house!

A year-long stay: different yet the same
My review is a little different, as my daughters and I lived at Casa Nascosta for a full year. I was a little worried about not having all the "things" we were used to, but the appointments of the house left almost nothing to be desired, winter or summer. We were warmly welcomed in Besozzola and Pellegrino, and found plenty to do in our year, as we traveled all over Italy or just took a picnic down to the river. Short trips to Castell'Arquato, Polesine Parmense to see the famous culatelli, and Pellegrino's own caseificio were among the highlights of the year, and all within 45 minutes' drive. A car is an absolute necessity, because the hamlet is indeed a bit isolated, but we found it easy enough to get around (the twisty mountain roads did take a little getting used to!). Definitely reserve a table at Trattoria Trinita' and at L'Oca Bianca during your stay -- one foodie friend who came to visit said he had never had a better Italian restaurant meal anywhere than at Trinita'! Stop by the bar up the hill for a caffe and bargnolino (local berry liqueur) with Angela, or walk up the hill toward the top of the mountain through fairy-tale woods to magnificent views of the Parma countryside. We were extremely happy here and have nothing but praise for Roisin and Frank who were on top of everything through the year and a tremendous help in getting us integrated into the life of the village. We're already missing the many friends we made here, and are planning to go back in a few years!

The perfect vacattion!
If you are looking for a place to live in Italy and really feel the Italian vibe, culture, climate and taste. Or just relax and beeing happy then this is the perfect house! In a beautiful spot, amazing nature and beautiful views all over the region. The little village is extreamilly cute, with the nicest neightbours I´ve ever had. The house in itself - we all agreed that it was perfect. Very fresh and with everything a family need to live, cook, wash clothes, sleep etc. They also had beds for our babies and internet connection. The owners were always super nice with us and if we needed something or any kind of information they were very fast to provide us with everything. We tried many restaurants in the area and they were all extremily good, even if it was a very very simple restaurant it would taste like a 5 star restaurant. We had the opportunity to have cooking classes with Giovanna, the best teacher ever!!! super clever and a nice person. What we thought would be two days classes, became many more! we just couldn´t get enought from Giovanna. It was just so nice to spend time with her learning to cook the real italian food. My husband and I learned a lot with her. Well, we loved this house so much that we are coming back this year and if life continues to be good to us we will probably come back every year.

What an incredible find!
When faced with finding housing for six people on a recent trip to Italy, I had no idea of what to expect. I searched the HomeAway website for the Parma area and found this listing. It looked perfect and very nice online, but as with much of the local scenery, pictures and words did not do it justice. The house was like being at home - only better since it was in Italy! It was nicely located for day trips to Florence, Porto Venere, Verona and Parma or just enjoying the house and the immediate area. The house was clean, comfortable and well appointed. It was very hard to leave at the end of our week. As nice as the house was, the owners, Roisin and Frank were even better. They were not only gracious and accommodating hosts, but were a wealth of information and assistance. Communication by email, phone and finally in person was easy and made us feel welcome even before our arrival. In very short order, I felt like we were staying at the home of old friends. I know that this outstanding house and the superb hosts made our stay in Italy even more special. I cannot say enough on what a special place this is. As easy as it is to give a glowing review for HomeAway, I almost wish I could keep Casa Nascosta to myself so that when I go to Italy again I wouldn't have to worry about it being booked! You will not be disappointed if you spend time here, no matter how high your expectations. Thank you so much, Roisin and Frank for an incredible home-away-from-home!! p.s. - If you never left the immediate area around Besozzola, you couldn't eat better or enjoy yourself more. The Trattoria Trinita and l'Oca Bianca, both just minutes away should not be missed for dinner. Pellegrino, Salsomaggorie and Castle Vigileno are fantastic as well and minutes from your doorstep. Molto bene!!

close to Parma, tranquil & beautiful
We spent two weeks in June 2011 at Casa Nascosta.  It is located in a very small, friendly village.  During our stay, the wild flowers were in bloom, and taking a stroll and assembling a small bouquet was a nice thing to do on some mornings.  The village is in the heart of Parmigiano-Reggiano country.  The land is beautiful.  It is far from touristy.  There are a number of wonderful cities and the coast within manageable driving distance.  As we had 3 small children with us, we were more interested in very short trips and exploring the immediate area.  Three of our favorite activities were: a morning spent making pasta and sauces in the authentic local style with Giovanna (Roisin will put you in touch if you’d like to meet this charming, fascinating Italian woman with a Cockney London accent!); a visit to a caseificio to learn about how parmigiano is made; splashing in nearby fresh water streams and pools – by car or bike, head towards Pellegrino, at first bridge cross over and then make an immediate left, go underneath the bridge (dirt track) and you can park in the field there.  About 200 meters from there you can access the pools – gorgeous and lots of fun for kids!  As the rocks tended to be slippery, river shoes would be an advantage here.  Visiting the city of Parma could not be topped!   But when getting out with children was too much effort on vacation, it was a pleasure to rimanere a casa, because the villa was always cool and comfortable, and the kitchen, as others have already written, was very well outfitted and fun to work in.   If, like us, you are traveling with small children, you should consider 2 things: first, there is no immediate grassy yard/garden, per se, though there is a large and neat patio and an excellent area for eating/drinking outside with a screened-in tent-like structure.  Secondly, in Italy every afternoon there is a siesta-like period between lunchtime and 4 pm called riposo where the thing to do is just digest, relax, and not make much noise (this can be tricky with children).  Neighbours were extremely nice (and quite interesting to chat with) and assured us that our children’s frolicking was never a disturbance.  Finally, Roisin was very accommodating in helping make our stay comfortable.  She even provided 2 brand new sleeping cots for the babies (very important for us!).  She was always very punctual in her correspondence and a pleasure to deal with.

Peaceful and Centrally Located
We spent a week in this wonderful house in the lovely hamlet of Besozzola in April 2011. The house was ideal for us. We intended to tour all of Emilia-Romagna and were looking for someplace peaceful to cook and eat wonderful Italian food after touring the beautiful surroundings and we found exactly what we were looking for. The house was an oasis after a busy day and we looked forward to returning to it. We visited Cremona, Mantova, Parma, Reggio-Emelia, Modena, Bologna, Fontanellato, Cinque Terre, all within easy driving distance of the house. This is a beautiful part of Italy and this house allowed us to explore the region fully. All of the local markets were fun and food shopping is amazing in the region. The kitchen is well appointed and stocked with everything you need, the bedrooms are comfortable and spacious as are the bathrooms. Great dining spaces in both the kitchen and dining area. A comfortable living room with a cozy fireplace. Beautiful patio with a nice sitting area and a great charcoal grill. The neighbors are friendly, but it is still very private, very peaceful. Within a few miles of the house are some beautiful areas to go for a walk, we picked a new one every night and always found interesting things...deers in the fields, beautiful vistas...very nice. Having done several vacation rental homes over the years, I would put this one near the top of my list. When you are booking a property on-line you are never quite sure what you are going to get...We were happy to find that this one exceeded our expectations. The listing is accurate and the pictures accurately describe what you will find. I would definitely rent this property again and would highly recommend it to others looking to explore Emelia-Romagna. We hated to leave, but we'll be back again.

Beautiful Place.
Stay in Besozzola was our fifth holiday in Italy. We were in Tuscany, Marche (Urbino), Sicily and Venice before. Last italian holiday will be remembered esspecialy because of that beautiful house with its breathtaking surroundings. Hidden in apeninian hills, with beautiful views and fresh air, Besozzola House is a very good place to relax after trips to nearby cities such as Parma, Cremona, Modena, Mantova and other charming places. Thanks to its owners, house is very well equipped and comfortable. It is possible to have a nice holiday there, even without going anywhere. I hope we will visit Besozzola again. 8/10 Good

Peace and Tranquility
We would thoroughly recommend staying here - an excellent mix of a lovely place and delightful (and very helpful and proactive) owners. We spent half term staying here and had a wonderful time. The weather was glorious and the house was great. The rooms were spacious and clean, the beds were very comfortable, and the kitchen was well equipped (the latter was a welcome change from many of the places we have rented). There is no garden but there is a good sized patio where one can eat outside and read a book. The children (age 4 and 8) enjoyed exploring the very small and quiet hamlet and running around in the fields. The house is well located for exploring local castles and for day trips to Parma and Piacenza. There is also a good river at the bottom of the valley that our children loved paddling in. We were a bit concerned the first evening when the church bells started ringing as they are quite loud .. but then realized that we could turn them to our advantage ---- and the children were told that they couldn't get out of bed until they heard the bell strike 8 .. and much to our pleasure they followed our instructions!

Perfect Family Vacation
Roisin and Frank's lovely stone farmhouse in the charming village of Besozzola was the perfect setting for our family vacation. My husband, two daughters (14 and 11) and myself travelled from California to Europe for the first time to discover the pleasures of Northern Italy. We found this property and felt that we made the perfect choice. The location was perfect! We were tucked away in a charming hamlet with total privacy and only 20 minutes away from the lovely city of Salsomaggorie. We made trips to Bologna, Florence, Modena and all the castles of the region. The local trattorias were excellent and we even took advantage of a cooking lesson arranged by Roisin with a chef in a nearby village. The house itself was spacious, comfortable with an amazing kitchen, laundry and views. After our daily wanderings we were always content to come back to the farmhouse. I would recommend this vacation property to anyone looking for an authentic experience of gorgeous rural Italy.
