About this property

Loggers Cabin @ Nightcap Ridge

Nightcap Ridge is a private 67 acre property in the Nightcap National Park. This unique oasis provides beautiful lawns, walks, water holes and unspoilt nature. The well appointed cottage delivers the comforts for a perfect getaway.

The property is within a few kilometres of Minyon Falls. A stay provides guests with a comfortable base for experiencing the surrounding National Park and Conservation Area. The National Park, which is World Heritage listed, and Conservation area are known for their flora and fauna including many rare and endangered species, dominant massifs, cliffs, lush green gullies and waterfalls. These parks attract bushwalkers, nature lovers, birdwatchers, picnickers, mountain bike riders and artists.

While the surrounding parks are beautiful and offer endless scope for nature based adventurers, many guests to Nightcap Ridge do not venture far away at all. Guests enjoy the varied landscape of Nightcap Ridge itself with its rainforest, permanent creek, forested ridges, gullies, lily ponds, dams and easy walks. There is plenty to explore right here at your door step. Nightcap Ridge is actively managed to enhance and protect its flora and fauna. Significant species such as Koala, Little Bent Wing Bat, Wompoo Fruit Dove, Rose Pigeon, Rifle Bird, Bower Birds, Owls, Lace Monitor (Goanna), Swamp Wallaby and Pademelons and many others are found here.

Guests will find the cottage is warm and cosy in winter and light and airy in summer. The cottage provides a refuge to escape from the outside world, to observe and experience nature or simply to sit on the deck and relax. Nightcap Ridge encourages contemplation, meditation and reflection.

As the cottage is designed to be self-catering, guests need to bring their own food supplies to meet their daily needs. The slow combustion fuel stove is a great way to cook and experience food. Chopped wood is provided. An easy lesson will be provided in its operation. Guests can also have the option of having a campoven stew prepared for them, which will stew on the fire while you star gaze.

The cottage is open plan. It is rustic and well appointed with separate indoor/outdoor bathroom. The cottage and the bathroom have French doors and louvre windows providing plenty of light, parkland and forest views.

The cabin is solar powered. This means that high energy use electrical items such as electric heaters, electric toasters, hair dryers and so on cannot be used without exhausting the supply of electricity to run more needed appliances. The solar system does run an electric fridge, the lights, the digital TV and Blu-ray player. The slow combustion wood fired stove is also used to heat the cabin. There is a backup gas heater.

Water to the cabin is high quality filtered creek water and tank rain water. Nightcap Ridge is the first property to access the creek and the creek is a permanent source of both spring fed and surface water. The creek water is drinkable and is preferred by most visitors because of its perceived added mineral benefits.

There is a four poster double bed. A deck is available for outdoor sitting and dining, with beautiful aspect and views.

The property is 300 to 350 metres above sea level and is at a junction of two climatic zones - sub tropical and warm temperate. The climate is milder than areas on the coastal plain. It has a high rainfall of about 1800mm per year. So bring wet weather gear, especially between December and March.

In Autumn you can expect minimum temperatures at night and in the early morning to fall to around 10C. Day temperatures are usually in the mid 20sC. It is a very pleasant time of the year. Spring is similar, but can be drier.

In Winter the minimum temperatures at night and in the early morning can fall to around 5C - occasionally to 0C. Daytime winter temperatures are in the high teens and low 20sC. Very pleasant - but you will need a good jumper/pullover/cardigan at least in the morning and at night and - yes - warm pyjamas, socks and slippers. By using the slow combustion fuel stove, the cottage remains warm and inviting.

In Summer minimum temperatures are in the high teens or low 20sC. During the day the temperatures mostly are in the high 20sC to low 30sC, but can occasionally be higher. The cottage is insulated and by using the large opening French doors and the louvre windows the cabin remains very pleasant. You can also cool off in the creek or dams.

The cottage is located 37kms from Byron Bay, 27kms from Mullumbimby, 35kms from Lismore and 180kms from Brisbane.

Every effort will be made to make your visit enjoyable. Feedback is welcome.

A Perfect Stay
The property was clean, quiet, and comfortable. The property was perfect for a romantic and private getaway. The location was a short drive to waterfalls, and sunset look outs and was relatively easy/close to Byron Bay. The hosts were amazing with directions, and local spots and made sure we had everything we needed to have an enjoyable stay. I highly recommend this property!

Lovely secluded getaway
Hidden in one of the most beautiful places, this secluded loggers cottage did not disappoint. Fully stocked with everything you need for a getaway including indoor and outdoor fires, You don’t want to leave except to go on some beautiful trail Walks. The surrounding towns are, however lots of fun to visit and buy local produce but the highlight is returning to the cottage and reading, relaxing and watching the stars. A beautifully appointed cottage. Highly recommended and we will be back.

What a wonderful little cottage! Rustic and delightful, it is perfectly located on a stunning property, far enough from the main house to feel secluded. The tall timbers and the farmhouse gardens means birds aplenty. The covered deck, the stained glass windows, the wood-fire oven and the four poster bed are only a few of the lovely country charms. The detached bath house is a treat with its claw-footed tub, scented lotions and tea lights. Highly recommended.

Relax! Relax! Relax!
Beautiful property. Great place to just relax. Owners went out of their way to ensure we had every chance to totally chill out and slow down. They were always available to help if needed. The cabin was very comfortable, warm and cosy with the wood stove, and no internet or television was an added bonus. Thoroughly recommend and we will be returning.

A relaxing getaway
A wonderful, cosy place to unwind and relax. A beautiful property to explore and Fraser and Sara’s local knowledge of other spots to visit was great. Be sure to laze in the dam and sit by the fire with Fraser’s famous stew (don’t forget your marshmallows for dessert). Lovely hosts (including Monty the labradoodle!).

Made me rethink my city life
My family and I had the perfect eco-friendly off grid gate-away at Nightcap. The cabin is exquisite and well equipped. We took advantage of the lack of reception and internet by playing board games, cards and talking over the fire. Fraser and Sarah were very kind and accommodating. They provide guidance to explore their huge property which features a beautiful lily pond and a flock of cockatoos in the morning. I could not recommend this property enough!

Wonderful haven of relaxation
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. We were inspired initially by the beautiful pictures and the reality certainly lived up to that and more. The location is wonderfully remote in the heart of the beautiful national park, the property is beautifully maintained with loads of options for walking, or simply sitting on the deck listening to the beautiful sounds of silence, with intermittent sounds of nature. Fraser was a fabulous host and could not do enough for us to make our stay comfortable but equally respectful to leave us to just enjoy our stay. We also loved visits from Monty the very friendly and super cute dog. The cabin itself is superb, thoughtfully appointed and has a warm, welcoming atmosphere. Everything you need is in the kitchen with a great little gas stove, and in winter there is a wood stove that would keep the cabin lovely and cosy. We made the most of the local produce and stocked up on lots of lovely goodies from the various delis and general stores to enjoy back in the cabin. One evening we had the amazing stew cooked by Fraser - highly recommend it. Though the weather didn't permit having it over the campfire due to some rain, we still loved it and just gave us a reason to come back and experience it another time and see those awe inspiring stars. The location whilst luxuriously remote is also close enough to go out during the day and enjoy some of the lovely local towns like Bangalow, Newrybar and Eureka for great local cafes and shops. Overall thoroughly recommend Nightcap Ridge, and would not hesitate to come back again!

Beautiful part of the world
Had such a lovely stay at Nightcap Ridge. The cottage is so cute and has lots of character and the setting is stunning. It was nice to disconnect from the outside world and immerse yourself in such a peaceful setting. We especially enjoyed sitting by the campfire at night and looking at the stars. Fraser was a lovely host and the camp fire chicken stew he made for us was delicious!! We would love to visit again.

peaceful and blissful
We wanted a relaxing getaway and thats exactly what we got! Nightcap Ridge is nestled amongst the stunning Nightcap National Park. Frazer, Sara and Gwen have created such a beautiful, comfortable cabin and grounds that is medicine for the soul. Thankgoodness we stayed for 4 nights to really take advantage of the property and surrounding National Park. Each night we sat beside a warm bonfire and in the days we explored the park, walked through ancient rainforest, mooched around the gorgeous shops in Bangalow or curled up by the fuel stove to read. Thankyou so much for your kindness and generosity Frazer! We look forward to returning to your oasis!

Lovely stay at Nightcap
We stayed at Nightcap Ridge for 4 nights with our 6 year old daughter. We had a great time strolling through the property, watching wildlife and sitting by the campfire. The creek that runs through the property provides the nicest drinking and bathing water. A big thank you to our hosts, Fraser and Sarah and Monty the dog for their generosity and hospitality. We loved the curry and caserole, fresh eggs and honey. While the property is remote, we were still able to visit surrounding towns including Byron. Nightcap is a hidden gem, a great way to escape city life.
