About the host

I was born and raised in Denver, Colorado. I lived in Honduras for a year, and now I teach 5th grade in Spanish at a dual language school. I love to fish, ski, hike, eat, box, play violin and viola, and play board games/trivia with friends. My husband Jonny, who is from the UK, and I really enjoy traveling and hosting through Airbnb.

Why they chose this property

We love Pine Grove. An old mining town, it had it's heyday around 1900 when it was a major train stopping point and location for repairs. Residents from Denver would take the train to Pine Grove during the summer to escape the heat and enjoy the mountain air. The town is full of houses and buildings from around 1890-1920, and hosts school field trips to show how life was like at that time. History aside, the valley that Pine Grove sits in is beautiful. The next town down, Buffalo Creek, boasts excellent mountain biking, while the South Platte River provides gold star fishing. Pine Valley Ranch Park is a 5 minute drive. From there you can access the trail network and fish in the lake there.

Zoka's is the only restaurant in Pine Grove, but it is excellent. There is also a library, antique store and another store that a local resident sells woodworking crafts from. The famous Buck Snort Bar is located a few minutes drive away in Sphynx Park.

What makes this property unique

Our property started life as a 1890 cottage for railroad workers. When we bought the property several years ago, it didn't have indoor plumbing and relied on an outhouse for the toilet! We fully renovated the property, while keeping true to it's history. We added an addition with a new bathroom, kitchen and dining area. It's a great mix of old and new.
