About this property

Beautiful Property On The Santa Fe River

This is the perfect retreat away! The home has two bedrooms, 1 1/2 bath, an open concept living area, 1200sq ft that has been newly renovated with new flooring, paint, furniture, linens and a chlorination system. The large deck offers beautiful views of the river, a picnic table and a family sized grill. The back yard features a tree shaded dock with plenty of room to spread out and relax. Home is conveniently located just a short 30 minute drive to Gainesville.

The house is furnished, including all the necessary appliances, a 40" HD T.V. with Amazon FireStick, WiFi and a DVD player in the living area. The Amazon FireStick allows you access HBO, Sirius Xm, and Amazon Prime video for free movies and shows as well as your Netflix account if you have one. There is also a small T.V./DVD combo in one bedroom. Television channels are local over the air HD.

There are two kayaks and tubes available for use and stairs on the dock for easy river access. The river varies in color from clear to tea colored and is shallow enough to wade into. There are many convenient access points to the river for tubing or kayaking and ending up right back at the house. There is a public boat ramp a short walk from the property, and plenty of room to park an average sized boat under the house.

Fort White is 4 miles away, and provides basic amenities such as grocery shopping, gas stations, and places to eat. High Springs is around 10 miles away and has a scenic downtown area with diners, antique and specialty shops, ice cream parlors, and a movie theatre. Gainesville is a 30 mile drive, perfect for a day trip. There are several springs and parks in the immediate area, including Blue Springs and Ichetucknee State Park. If tubing is your thing, their is a 45 minute tube trip straight from the dock to a small park nearby or a several hour trip if you let in at Rum Island, which leads you right back to the house.

The average winter temperature is in the mid to upper sixties, with a typical day being warm and sunny. The water temperature is 74 degrees year-round, perfect for swimming on relaxing summer days. The house includes a new air conditioning system that can be independently controlled in each bedroom and the living area by wireless remote to suit each occupants' individual needs.

Please note: Because we are located on a river we only have access to well water. A chlorination system has been installed to produce clean and clear water which is perfectly fine to shower, bathe, wash dishes and clothing in but not necessarily the best for drinking. For this reason we include gallons of water for drinking and cooking. The homeowner lives right around the corner and will be available by phone if there are any questions or concerns. Pets are allowed for a fee.

Santa Fe River and Springs escape
Great location and amenities to explore the river and nearby springs. Spent 3 weeks at the home working remotely part of the time. Plan on returning in the future.

Cozy river retreat
We thoroughly enjoyed our month long stay escaping from the cold rain and wind up north. Very quiet and peaceful most days but weekends did see an uptick in boat/jet ski traffic. We found lot's to do: tubing and paddleboarding on the Santa Fe, swimming and exploring the many gorgeous springs along the river or a short drive away, hiking in the nearby River Rise SP etc. Not a lot of good restaurants nearby, but we still managed to eat well. The Friday farmers market in High Spring provided us with lot's of delicious local veggies, greens, berries etc., as well as baked goods, local seafood and meats. There is also a cute food truck court in Fort White though we preferred the Cuban food truck who set up a few blocks away. The kitchen was large and well organized and things like baggies, foil, paper products etc. were thoughtfully provided. They even had toys for our pup. Loved it and hope to stay here again.

We enjoyed our stay at the property. Was near a family home for Thanksgiving. It was really great to have a second kitchen for the days meal and another tv for football watching. Thanks again!

Back on the river
Property’s kitchen was very well stocked, clean and well organized. Many games for kids. And I was able to play Packman for the first time in 58 years. The last time was at Pizza Hut on a date. I do have a couple of suggestions. We could not use the barbecue because it was full of roaches and they’re leavings. It would be good to clean it out after every stay. the house would benefit from a good power wash as would the canoes and life vests. Looks like repairs of the deck and landing are underway. I really appreciated the air conditioning and the layout of the house. I did ask to use the washing machine and was told the is for people staying more than three days. That would be a factor in my decision in the future since you cannot be on the river and not have wet clothes and towels. All in all, we thoroughly enjoyed our vacation it might be a good idea to check the batteries in the remotes. My granddaughter had a blast with the Legos so we didn’t miss TV too much. Many thoughtful amenities such as snack bars, paper goods, water, condiments, etc. were appreciated. Lots of towels provided!

Wonderful and cozy
Absolutely gorgeous property! This property is very cozy and has everything you need to have a great stay. Plenty to do even if it rains. My kids loved the archade game! Plenty of room to spread out and do different things. Love having access to the river from the back yard deck. Quiet and peaceful to get away from the hustle of everyday life. Can't wait to come and stay again.

Peaceful and relaxing
Property is directly on the river and close to a boat ramp…very easy to drop a kayak in for an early morning paddle! Very close to multiple gorgeous springs and parks (Poe, Ichetucknee, Gilchrist Blue, Rum Island, to name a few). Lots of wildlife in a quiet neighborhood seen as well. We really enjoyed our stay (and so did our dog!)

Great spot except for the spiders
Inside of the house was neat and clean, lots of games, puzzles, and an awesome little arcade. Hard to take showers with the water smell, but we expected that from the listing detail. Drinking water was provided due to stinky well water but the jugs were refilled, not new. Wasn't comfortable using those. Appreciated the well stocked kitchen, everything from extra papertowels to tupperware, spices, coffee, and saran wrap. Everything was super clean except the fridge, which had leftover items and needed to be wiped out (fridge and freezer). The kitchen sponge left in sink also had food stuck to it. Last and certainly not least, big black spiders popped out of every loose power outlet, which was not fun for my little girls. Found bug spray that killed them on contact but wasn't able to truly relax or sleep well for those 4 nights. Luckily it was bad just the first night and then we saw one more on our last night. That was really the only downside. I understand outside will have plenty of critters due to the nature but I don't think guests should expect to deal with spiders in the walls like that, esp at the price point. I don't think we will ever return here although we did enjoy the house overall and had a great time visiting the springs.

Slow vibe
This was our first visit to the area. After 22 years it was about time we went. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. So peaceful and relaxing. The home has all of the necessities for cooking, and comforts of a home. I was also happy that it seemed like a smoke free home, I have a sensitive nose and I didn’t smell any stale cigarette smells. While I didn’t find the master bed very comfortable, only because I’m used to a soft bed and not a firm bed. Being from the city it was refreshing not to hear ambulances all evening, instead it was the steady sound of frogs, crickets and other wildlife. My kids and I loved this house SO much, we can’t wait to visit again and again. The river is so beautiful, my kids loved just being able to jump in and swim. They also fished and caught two sunfish, which we quickly released back to the river. We were center to all of the springs and we went to all of them a few times. Ichetucknee Springs State Park was by far our favorite. Our least favorite was Ginnie Springs it was our first visit, and we were so surprised by all the trash. Thank you for sharing your wonderful home.

Like borrowing your uncle's rustic cabin
The property is great for your outdoorsy getaway. We spent much of our time on the dock which is shaded by a HUGE cypress tree. Very relaxing: sit with your coffee or beverage and listen to all of the birds. (There is an owl pair that " talks" around 5pm each day!) Occasional tubers, kayakers, and small boats go by. The house comes with 2 kayaks; that is a great feature without having to rent from a park. Kudos, thank you-- owners should add more photos of the dock-- I have some great ones (wish I could add here). The house itself is "simple" inside. There is 1 double bed with 1/2 bath and 2nd BR has 2 twins. 1 main bath to share. 2 day beds in LR that also function as 'couch type' seating. Photos are accurate. Lots of stairs due to house being on stilts. Just noting this for any elderly or people with bad knees. The deck off the house has lots of seating and a picnic table for outdoor meals. Another benefit is that your car is parked underneath the house, so it is shaded and protected from weather. Super close to Ichetucknee and other Springs. Winn Dixie is about 10 minutes. Thoroughly enjoyed our time.

Nice dog friendly property right on the river
We thoroughly enjoyed our 2 night stay hanging with our dogs inside the house, on the deck overlooking the beautiful property and Sante Fe River and especially relaxing on the dock after exploring most of the parks and springs in the area. Mark the property owner was very accommodating and provided clear and timely communication. We would love to come back some time!

Nice spot, but the water is horrible
The property is lovely. Furnishings in the house were a bit shabby. Of the two plastic chairs on the deck, one was broken. Worst thing was the water. It came out brown and smelling strongly of sulphur, to the point that we avoided even washing our hands in it. My daughter refused to bathe in it and I wasn’t convinced it was really even getting our dishes clean. The description should’ve mentioned that as it is a big issue.

Great get away from reality
We brought our teenage kids and 2 dogs to get away from the real world for spring break. We ended up extending our stay we loved it so much. Lots of room inside and out. Plenty of room to run for our dogs. House is rough in some spots but as long as your not looking for a palace you’ll be okay. Definitely would recommend and the owner was very accommodating.

the house was spacious and bright, and the nearby springs and nature preserves are fantastic, but...
the furniture, carpets, bathrooms and kitchen are worn and tired. The worst problem -- which we didn't realize before coming -- is that the water cannot be drunk. It is full of iron and sulphur and smells terrible. I bought a pair a filters for the sink and shower, but that only helped a little. The owner promises to put a proper filter on all the water coming in to the house. That's too late for us, but if he does it, the experience would be fine for anybody who is not too fussy about wear and cleanliness. That said, the owner was kind and attentive when things went wrong (leaking pipes, clogged drains and inadequate heat), and fixed what could be fixed cheerfully and quickly. The area around the house is a bit peculiar -- houses like this one up on stilts and a few that had been damaged beyond repair form the last flood -- but the nearby Springs and nature reserves are spectacular. We went to Itchnetucknee and O'Leno (each about 7 miles away) almost every day to run, hike, bathe, and canoe. (We saw manatees.) The river is lovely, but there are motor boats on it, so swimming is out of the question and canoes have to be very cautious. Better to go to Itchneetucknee.

The pictures do not do it justice! We were breath taken when we saw the views and the overall house.
We had a wonderful time! We kayaked and fished a good bit. The views were amazing and perfect for grilling out. The house was very spacious and had everything we needed! The only negative was the water has a lot of iron in it causing a weird smell, but that was not that big of a deal. Highly recommended if you want privacy and to be out of civilization. There is not much phone signal but we did not seem to miss it at all.
