About this property

Butterworth Mill-country getaway

Butterworth Mill built in 1874 as the local flour mill located on a large property in the historic township of Burra, it has been tastefully renovated into an amazing holiday rental. Perfect for families and large groups.
With a large mezzanine on the top floor that has 6 single beds a large plasma and absolute kids haven, the middle mezzanine has two master bedrooms with a share bathroom between them and there is a separate area which was originally the kitchen and engine room which is joined to the main living area with another mezzanine that has two queen beds and a bunk, perfect for a whole family that want a bit more privacy.
There is also a newly renovated bathroom on the bottom floor with a large bath.
On the bottom there is a large leather lounge with a wood burning combustion heater along with a large dining table and kitchen breakfast bench and stools.
The top floor has reverse cycle air conditioning and ceiling fans.
The engine room leads out to a huge out door entertaining deck with a built in bar and barbecue.
and a outdoor dining area covered by hanging wisteria looking out over uninterrupted views
of the countryside.
In total there are 4 plasma televisions, a docking station, a DVD player and PlayStation, a pool table, ping pong table, dart board, two bathrooms a laundry with a washer and dryer and a third toilet.
The Mill is on approx 3 acres so plenty of privacy and parking.

Please note as this property is on several levels with a lot of stairs it may not be considered suitable for young children or people with mobility issues, it is also mezzanine floors so not a lot of privacy.

Exactly what we needed
Butterworth Mill was the most perfect place for our getaway. After the recent lose of our mum we needed some together time. The mill is sensational in its setup. The decor is warm, old worldy but fun and comfortable. The bath is divine! There is everything you could possibly need in terms of kitchen items, the beds are fabulously comfortable with crisp clean white linen, the fire was perfect as it was very cold and wet the whole 3 days we were there. We loved it. We loved the total feel of comfort. Carolyn was the perfect host. Thank you so much.

Burra Gem
What a great property that is very well equipped to handle groups of 12. It has a real charm about it that made our weekend. You can venture out and explore or stay in and relax. It has a nice fire, pool table, dart board and plenty of beds. It also has a great deck including bar area, bbq and fire pit. We dined in by candlelight and had a great evening. This property is brilliant and a real gem of Burra, thoroughly recommend.

The mill.
The mezzanine arrangement means smallest sound heard throughout, and one bathroom for all in main section right next to the beds was a little awkward. We enjoyed the deck.

Historic quirky old mill full of character. Excellent for a family holiday
We had a fabulous family holiday exploring Burra and the region over to Clare & Mintaro from our base here. This is not your standard holiday house. It's as described, with plenty of character, a big kitchen & large living area to enjoy & a fireplace that keeps the Mill warm. The beds were all very comfortable. It's an open plan set up with mezzanine floors dividing up the Mill into floors for sleeping spaces. The engine room provides sleeping for 5 or more. It was harder to keep warm , as its a bit draughty. It was July, so the coldest part of the year. We used that space for the young adults & they were OK there. There is a lovely deck on one side that caught the Winter sun beautifully. Carolyn, the host is easy to communicate with and very friendly & helpful. I would highly recommend the Mill for a different style of accommodation

Amazing venue
Our extended family - 9 in all - thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this tastefully and innovatively presented property. It is tasteful in the furnishings, the sense of the past that is reflected in the historical artefacts and signage, and the overall quality of things like the kitchen fittings and the linen and bedding. It is innovative in the layout, the expansive deck and bar, and the nature and range of the activities that were available for the younger members of our group. A fascinating base to explore an equally fascinating region.

Work trip to Burra
Spent 5 nights at the property for a work trip with my 15 year old son. Always great to stay in a heritage property which has been sympathetically converted. Peaceful and convenient location with superb interior and exterior spaces for relaxation. Kitchen was fully kitted out and a wood burning stove pumping out enough heat to keep us comfy. Although there were only 2 of us staying here, it would easily accommodate larger family groups or friends. Happy to return here again in the future.
