Just 10 miles from the Great Smoky Mountain National Park, this 1926 wooden train caboose has been transformed into one of the most unique vacation destinations in the area. The caboose cottage itself is located in a private rural area. It is known as The Caboose at Station 451 or Station 451 for short. It is minutes to I-40, about 30 minutes to Asheville, 20 Miles to Tennessee and a mere 1.5 hours to Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, TN.
We are very close to hiking, waterfalls, the Blue Ridge Parkway, fly fishing, tubing, kayaking, shopping, fine dining, Harrah's Casino in Cherokee, art galleries, and theater...you name it and it's a short drive away! At Station 451 we combine a unique caboose, bath house, patio and farm land into a tiny house you'll never forget.
This bright red story book caboose was part of the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway. It's construction was likely started in 1926 and finished in 1927. This C&O caboose was numbered as 90885. The caboose was fully functional when we purchased it in 2015. It was purchased from a local non-profit organization known as Craggy Mountain Line in Woodfin, NC. The caboose sets atop authentic 1920's railroad tracks and joins to the incredible bath house also known as the Depot.
The caboose offers a queen sized bed, memory foam mattress, premium down alternative pillows & comforter, tableware, glassware, silverware (service for 4), space saving dining table, central heat and air, luggage rack and coat rack, games, magazines, Smart TV, high speed cable internet, sink, fire extinguisher, dishwasher, refrigerator, basic cooking ware, toaster oven, coffee pot, complimentary paper towels, dishwasher soap and hand selected locally brewed beer. The couch easily coverts into a full size bed. Linens will be conveniently stored in the couch storage bins and should be used before sleeping on the couch.
Station 451's custom built bath house boasts a large walk-in shower featuring double shower heads, private water closet, double vanity with vessel sinks, premiere decor & cabinetry, cotton linens, over sized bathrobes Hazelwood Soap Company's hand-made bath and body products that use the finest of natural ingredients and essential oils, ironing board and iron, hair dryer and toiletries, arm chair and armoire. Front load high efficiency washer and dryer are also available for extended stays.
Quality and highly detailed construction in the bath house includes a strategic post & beam style, soaring tongue and groove ceilings, natural light enhancing window design, double opening french doors, additional relaxation space for extra enjoyment, LED powered mercury glass lighting, bathroom fan with Bluetooth speaker and central heating & air. The exterior of the structure includes fiber cement siding and locally harvested poplar bark and a tin roof to enjoy a relaxing rain storm. All these special features were brought together by the highest quality Haywood County businesses and contractors.
Outdoor recreational areas include an Appalachian style shower, slate rock sidewalks, paver patio, pondless waterfall, solar lighting, fire pit with complimentary wood bundle, propane grill with side burner, over sized covered porch with comfortable furnishings, porch swing, electric fireplace, outdoor Smart TV and high speed cable internet. All these amenities plus gorgeous mountain views and professional landscaping designed with a majority of native plants for your enjoyment.
Since Station 451 is located in a rural area you may be visited by our friendly goats, chickens or dogs. Wild animal sightings most commonly include raccoons, possum, deer, field mice, bats, turkey, bear and elk. Safety is our top priority so please enjoy pets and animals at your own risk and remember we have a pet free policy to insure the safety our beloved pets and yours too.

Because our structures consist of mostly wood we are very strict about our smoking policy. There is no smoking allowed in any of our structures; however, smoking is allowed at the fire pit. All cigarettes will be discarded in the fir pit only. If you fail to follow the policy you will be charged for damage.
