Cottage House in Beachwalk - Perfect little Cottage near Lake Michigan

Our Cottage, named "The Dog House" is a little gem in the heart of MIchigan City. This property is a guest house of a larger home that is in the vacation community of Beachwalk Resort Community. Located only 1 mile from the Casino, the outlet mall, the zoo, the Marina, and the downtown area of Michigan City, this is a prime location for whatever your plans are while in town. Also, you have full access to all of the offerings of Beachwalk (seasonal), including the pool, fishing ponds, playgrounds, tennis, basketball, and volleyball courts, Lake Kai, and the private Beachwalk entrance to our stunning beach on Lake Michigan. This home is completely separate from the main house, and is located above the 2-car garage. This can be rented together with the main house (Ruby's Lakehouse), or as a separate rental. Equipped with a full kitchen and bath, laundry, and modern amenities, this is a perfect little house for 1-2 couples or families of 5 or less. There is 1 large common main room which has a king bed and sofa sleeper, a full kitchen, and flat screen TV with Hulu and Netflix. Please note: there is not a separate private bedroom. The loft is not accessible for renters, and is not a separate sleeping space. There is a small screened-in porch with seating for 3. There is typically parking for 1-2, and a golf cart may be available to rent for an additional charge. Garage space may also be available upon request. This home is in a perfect location within Beachwalk, which has 175 homes. Our home is only a couple blocks to the Lake Michigan beach, and 1 block from the pool, snack shop, tennis courts, and more! We are lucky to have a quiet street in a very busy neighborhood. We provide a wagon, beach chairs, and an umbrella for your convenience. It's the perfect little cottage for a beach getaway!

Such a cute, clean and nice place!

My husband and I stayed in this super cute “dog house” (that’s what they named it) above the garage for an overnight for my cousin’s wedding. It was SO clean and super quiet. This little gem of a resort beach cottages located near Lake Michigan is exactly that, a gem! We will definitely come back and with our two kids. I actually was interested in looking into purchasing a property in this adorable community called Beach Walk. I can’t say enough good things about it. Definitely recommend!

Nice house in a beach community

This was a great house in a nice community. We were there off season so it was pretty quiet but overall pleasant. The house had everything we needed. The kitchen was well stocked for cooking and preparing foods which was important to us. The homeowner was responsive and helpful. We would stay here agin if we are ever in this area.

Girls Weekend Getaway

From check in to checking out we had an absolutely amazing weekend stay! Myself and my two young daughters planned a girls weekend getaway and the location was perfect. We felt welcome, and Sam was helpful every step of the way with any questions we had! We had plenty of towels, clean lines, kitchen utensils/pans, etc. We brought our swimsuits, sunscreen and food for the weekend and it was perfect! We absolutely will be back.

Perfect getaway!

My wife and I just wanted to get way for a few days. No real plans other than to relax and recharge. This place was great! Easy to book, easy to find, easy to check in/out. Parking right at the front door. Inside was exactly as described. Pictures are exactly what you get. Very clean and anything we needed was there! Kitchen had every utensil you could ask for. Coffee was provided and that was a huge thumbs up for us! Had a day without hot water? Called Sam at 11:00am she had a plumber there in less than an hour. Ended up having a new hot water heater replaced while we were out at the beach. By time we got back a few hours later we had hot water. Great response time from Sam! We highly recommend this place.

Nice place for a quick get-a-away

We stayed in the back cottage just for one night. It was very pleasant and stocked appropriately. Samantha generously offered us use of the golf cart which was fun to tool around on. The beach is close by but it rained so were not able to get over there. We went in the fall hoping for good fall colors but it did not pan out this year. It would be nice in summer or winter I am sure.

My new favorite vacation spot!

First the property was spotless. Plenty of pillows, sheets and blankets. And the mattress was super comfortable. Second, the location was perfect. Just a very short walk to the lake. Close to restaurants, shops, and beautiful scenery. Parking was convenient and right outside our door. The surrounding community was bright and lovely and made us feel like we were on vacation. I can’t wait to come back during the summer.

Beautiful Lake Michigan South Shore Area

Highly recommend. The upstairs, over the garage rental was perfect. It was beautifully decorated. It included everything that you would need from kitchen utensils to beach accessories. The screened in porch was perfect to sit out on while drinking a relaxing hot chai tea latte from the near by Starbucks. It is nestled in a private, relaxing and charming ‘Norman Rockwell like’ community. Although the pool and the snack shop were closed for the season, we loved taking walks in the area. It was wonderful walking through the charming Beachwalk Streets , to the fishing pier and to the beach every day. Samatha, the owner, was friendly, an excellent communicator and readily available when needed. We will be going back!

Couldn't have asked for a more perfect spot to spend my mom's birthday! Great location, close to the beach and pool. Clean property and well stocked kitchen. Love the screened in porch - so nice to sit out there and have meals. Will definitely be back!

Fun Lite Getaway

The Doghouse is Perfection for a mini vacation for the family. So close to the beach with all the amenities in the little above the garage cottage that you could need. Samantha was very responsive with any questions and provided ample information for our stay. We highly recommend Beachwalk and hope to stay again in the years to come.

Post Quarantine Getaway

My girlfriend and I decided to book a last minute getaway after Indiana lifted the stay at home order! The Doghouse had everything we were looking for! Very cozy and clean, close to the beach and Washington Park in a fun and well maintained private neighborhood! Tooting around on the golf cart was an added bonus and we were treated to a beautiful sunset! Samantha was a wonderful host and we were impressed by all of the personal touches throughout the unit! Would highly recommend a stay at The Doghouse!

Perfect Getaway

The Doghouse was the perfect little overnight getaway for my husband and me. It was very clean and spacious and the community was adorable. Samantha was quick to respond and a pleasure to work with. Perfect little weekend getaway!

This property was a perfect little spot for our family of 4! We have two young kiddos and I was worried about being in one large studio type of setup, but it worked out just fine! The rental is a little apartment above the garage and it is perfectly clean and roomy! The screened porch was a nice little addition! We loved the neighborhood feel and the easy access to all sorts of amenities! If you are coming to this area with small children, you have to check out the neighborhood park! Very cool! Most importantly, Samantha was SO great! We accidentally booked the wrong nights for our stay and she was so flexible and easy going with our error, allowing us to shift our stay to a day earlier! She was super responsive and helpful! There is a larger house called Ruby’s and we have already talked about looking into renting the bigger property next year! All around a good experience!

I am an independent owner/manager and give very thorough and personal service to ensure my renters are pleased with their stay. I have been vacationing with my 3 kids in Beachwalk for 20 years, and finally decided to invest in a home here. I live in Palatine, IL, and run my family's business as my day job.

Why they chose this property

This house is in fabulous condition, which made it an easy decision to purchase it. It is a very charming space and is perfect for a getaway. It's romantic for couples, and also very accommodating for small families. In 2017 we updated the house with all new paint and upgrades to the bathroom. The location is also perfect. The house is on a very quiet street in Beachwalk, but located very close to all of the amenities that make Beachwalk so fun.

The Dog House is unique because it has all of the benefits and amenities of the larger houses in the area (parking, fully stocked kitchen, full bath and laundry, screened-in porch, etc.), and accommodates a couple or small family.
