About this property

Idyllic garden villa, 3 beds, large private garden, 2 mins walk to beach.

Relax under the mango tree in this amazing 3 bed villa with private gardens just 2 minutes from the rejuvenating Caribbean sea.
Shelsea is a wonderful and spacious family home from home. A beautiful and comfortable villa. Lush tropical gardens with spectacular trees, plants and birds. The 3 bedrooms are all air-conditioned and good quality towels and linen are provided. The villa is very well-appointed and has TV, Hi-Fi, full wi-fi and a well-equipped kitchen with dishwasher and washing machine. The villa is very relaxing and has a great "feel"; a place where you can get away from it all and yet arrive on the beach in less than 2 minutes. Enjoy the hammock under the shade of the mango tree and illuminate the garden in the evenings to the tunes of whistling frogs and crickets. Shelsea is a very special place!

A beautiful home and a relaxing holiday

The house is exactly as advertised- in fact the photos don’t quite do the house and garden justice. The area is really quiet and peaceful, with just a hint of traffic noise discernible from the main road. The house is well secured with lots of lockable gates that can be left open even at night for ventilation. There is air conditioning but it really is not necessary with the sea breeze. Check-in was easy, with Ron the lovely neighbour showing us around and both Sheila and Amanda phoning us a few times to make sure all was well. The bedrooms are spacious with plenty of storage and comfy beds. There are shelves full of holiday reads and even a hairdryer with a diffuser for curly hair - a real rarity! The kitchen is well stocked and the initial provisions provided were very welcome as we arrived on a public holiday. There is a washing machine and also a dryer if needed. We hardly sat indoors as the garden and deck were so inviting. The cleaner and gardener were helpful and friendly. The beach is less than two minutes’ walk away. I can’t think of a thing to criticise - it’s a beautiful home and made for a wonderful base for a perfectly relaxing holiday.

Such a beautiful home. Well maintained. A surprise that a Gardiner and a house keeper came every week, which made our stay even better. Close to the beach, and nightlife. Had all amenities you could ask for.. Would detstay there again!

Hidden gem!

Shelsea is a hidden gem on the south coast of Barbados. We loved the stand-alone villa with its private garden and spacious rooms. The property is meticulously clean and very well appointed and laid out. The beds are very comfortable, complete with A/C, ceiling fans and mosquito nets - good enough for the most picky person! There is so much room to lounge around - the spacious patio, the breezy and bright "cage", and the large dining/living space. The kitchen is well-equipped, too. We really appreciated having access to a washing machine - makes a huge difference on an island where you might need to shower multiple times a day. The garden is very well manicured and the gardener comes in twice a week to keep everything tidy and healthy. The beach is one minute walk away and all sandy bottomed. If you like a bit of wave, then it is a a perfect beach for you! The location is fantastic. Our favorite restaurants are within 10 minutes drive and it is close to the Barbados Golf Club and the Oistin Fish Market. We were able to completely relax and unwind, in this little gem of a sanctuary. Thank you, Shelsea!

Our second vacation here. Very good

Rented for 28 days, My wife got sick, Amasing Amanda helped us to a medical clinic and she was OK very quickly. I devellopped severe pain on day 22, so bad that I expected admittance to a hospital. As my wife no longer can function alone we went home to Canada 4 days early. I had a Kidney Stone, It ihas now passed and we miss Barbados, beautiful Barbados

Garden Oasis

The high part about this experience was the lovely tropical garden. There are always birds- hummingbirds, occasional parrots and many others. Several afternoons we saw monkeys and one afternoon a whole family including babies joined us and “monkeyed around” as we watched for over half an hour. The beach is very close and we walked it every day and the water was warm but the waves can be rough some days. Every day was another day in paradise!

The Garden is Gold

Shelsea was perfect for our family for a month. Not beachside, this beach-adjacent little slice of paradise maximizes *both* the pristine beach and tropical beauty that Barbados offers. The beach access is just a 45 second walk from Shelsea's gate, down a private shaded lane. Part of the magic of our daily morning swims was turning into the corridor leading to the shore; there is no view quite as stunning as daily unveiling down this little walkway. The beach itself is stunning, great for lounging or playing & swimming in the waves, and offers an ideal sunset vantage point on most evenings. While resting back at Shelsea, the ample and shaded garden space was the highlight! Relaxing under the mango tree in the heat of the day was phenomenal. The landscaping makes the property feel lush and private, and also welcomes breezes into the space. The provided hammock was a haven for each member of our family for hot afternoons. The gardener visited often to keep the grounds groomed, and to clean the chairs and loungers, so it was always ready to relax in. Shelsea's kitchen was also key. It's very well equipped, and offered every convenience needed for keeping a family of five fed. Only complaint: mosquitoes! We loved the open concept with easy patio access from the house, but with that breezy island living does come pests. Coping strategies included vape mats, mosquito nets at night, bug dope, long pants/sleeves in evenings, fans, & closing bedroom doors & windows.

Beautiful Barbados Experience

This lovely home is exactly as pictured, which makes it feel like home as soon as you arrive. Being met by Ron and Amanda is so very helpful; they thoroughly go through all aspects of the property and are very friendly and welcoming. And speaking of welcoming...the welcome package upon arrival is above and beyond! The effect of having necessities to allow you to settle in without immediately racing to a grocery store just enhances the warmth of this home. Proximity to the beach is great, and the host, Sheila's, communication about local activities and restaurants was extremely helpful. We are grateful for having an opportunity to stay in this lovely home.

8 weeks on Barbados

We thoroughly enjoyed our eight weeks at Shelsea. The house is lovingly and tastefully furnished, and we can say without a doubt that in terms of kitchen equipment it was the best equipped house we have ever rented. This is surely due to the fact that Sheila - the owner - lives in the house herself when she is staying on Barbados and does not rent it out exclusively as a tourist domicile. Our favourite place was the cosy terrace, which is wonderful for relaxing or eating...or alternatively you can lie in the hammock under the mango tree. The beautiful garden is regularly tended by a gardener, and our daughter in particular was always happy when now and then a mango fell from the tree and we were faster than the monkeys who often sat in the tree and nibbled mangoes. The house is very close to the beach, which has the great advantage that you can walk to the beach within a minute. The disadvantage, however, is that hotels are located directly on the beach (i.e. between Shelsea and the beach), so we had to get used to regular nightly live music events at these hotels or at a live club also in the vicinity. The noise on Maxwell main road and the neighbours mowing their lawns at 7 a.m. also took some getting used to. We were very grateful for Yvonne, who whirled through our house once a week and cleaned everything. A great additional service. And a big thank you also goes to the landlords of the house (Ron and his daughter Amanda), who live two houses away and were always there to help us with any questions or requests. If we could, we would fly to Barbados again in a heartbeat and spend our holidays at Shelsea. This vacation will stay in our memories forever.

Wonderful property

Shelsea is a lovely family villa which easily accommodated 2 adults and 2 children 12 & 9. Sheila’s communication was fantastic prior and during our stay. The villa was nicely situated right next to the beach and close to the shops and other hotels. Ron and a gang of friendly monkeys met us on arrival . We had the pleasure of Vike the gardeners company as well as a lovely housekeeper Yvonne. I wouldn’t hesitate to stay at this beautiful again . Thank you Sheila, Ron, Vike and Yvonne x

Wonderful

We have just returned from 4 wonderful weeks in Shelsea. We are 2 retired couples enjoying Caribbean sun during the winter and Shelsea was ideal for our needs. Shelsea was large and airy, plenty of ceiling fans and air conditioning in bedrooms, which were large and had plenty of wardrobe space. The lounge and TV room were comfortable although we did not use them much, preferring to sit on the deck lounge. Gardens were beautiful and well kept visited by humming birds and monkeys. We even ate mangoes from the tree. Ron and Amanda who look after the property for Sheila were very friendly and helpful and Sheila replied promptly to any queries we may have had. It is about 15 mins walk into Oistons where there is a large supermarket and fantastic fish market. Miami beach in Oistons was worth several visits too. We had a car for 3 of the weeks so we could get around the island. If it wasn't for COVID we would probably have used the very regular and plentiful reggae buses. The local beach 2 mins walk away is lovely but you are not able to hire sun beds or umbrellas and we needed shade. Several lovely restaurants within a short taxi ride. A lovely place to spend our winter holiday in the sun.

3 fabulous months in Barbados

We had a great time here. We loved the garden and the hammock and the location was great. The gardener and housekeeper did a great job and made our stay even more comfortable. Communication with the owner and property manager was easy and they were always responsive. There were a couple of small things that we weren't used to, like the birds that would fly in the house quite often but other than that we loved it and would definitely recommend a stay at this house.

A Great Launchpad for Our Holiday

We were visiting the island with our 1 year old daughter so to have such a large garden and be walking distance to child-friendly beaches as well was brilliant. There were six adults staying and it didn't feel at all crowded. The rooms were spacious and all in all we had a lovely relaxing time; would recommend without hesitation!

Lovely spot on Barbados

This was a great home to come back to after being out and about on our first trip to the Island! The yard was lovely and a joy to have with a young child to run around and relax after a day at the beach! Great location, close to the beach and Oistins for the fish fry!

Beyond expectations!

The pictures and description do not do the property justice. The house is larger than it seems in the pictures, same with the beautiful garden. The walk to the beach is really only about 2 minutes, and that's with two toddlers in tow. Oistins and its grocery market, fish fry and great fish market are 5 minutes by car and about 10-15 by walking. The beach is as beautiful as can be imagined. The host is well represented by friends who help the check-in/check-out process, the gardener and house cleaning lady. The house is well equipped with everything necessary, especially the kitchen. Much needed and appreciated essentials were present in the fridge upon our arrival. Outstanding!

Lovely House

This is a lovely house with a beautiful garden, ideally placed for the south coast beaches and entertainment. It's on a quiet, unpaved, slightly overgrown lane which one of our taxis wouldn't travel down. It's only about 30 metres, but annoying having to carry bags. The lady who met us was very nice, and provided plenty of information about the property on arrival. We were a couple of minutes walk from the road with regular bus services to Bridgetown or Oistins and beyond. All bedrooms were air conditioned, whilst the living room relied on fans. There was a generous welcome pack in the fridge, which was much appreciated. The house was pleasantly decorated, with some interesting artwork on display. A lovely chap called Vike comes in regularly to look after the garden, and if you ask nicely, may be able to give you a ripe mango from the tree in the garden. We would stay again, and recommend to others. The only thing that grated a little was the repeated insistence that if you used more that BD$12 per day in electricity, you would be charged extra. I understand that reducing energy use is important, but, as an operator of luxury self catering properties in Cornwall, this is not the way to do it. Best wishes Russell

A perfect place to stay in Barbados

We have once again returned from a wonderful holiday at Shelsea where we have been going now for many years. Shelsea is situated in a great location down a private lane in a quiet peaceful area of Maxwell and only a 2 minute stroll to a beautiful beach. It is in close proximity to Oistins where there is a large supermarket, a bank, a fresh fish market and fresh fruit and vegetable stalls and on a Friday it is party night in Oistins we’re they have the fish fry with plenty of food, drink and music. You are also not to far away from the night life of St Lawrence Gap where there is plenty of places to eat and drink and enjoy a good night out. On arrival you are greeted by a lovely lady called Lou who is very helpful and gives you a guided tour of the house explaining everything you need to know and she is always at the other end of the telephone if you have any questions. She also leaves a welcome food pack in the fridge so you don’t have to rush out when you arrive. Shelsea itself is a beautiful spacious Barbadian home which is tastefully decorated and furnished in a traditional Bajan style and you immediately feel at home when you step through the door. It had a private drive and excellent WiFi connection. There is also laundry facilities with a well stocked linen cupboard with an ample supply of beach towels and a lovely lady named Yvonne comes in to clean on a Saturday. All 3 bedrooms are light and spacious and have excellent air conditioning. There is a large dining room, a tv room and a lovely lounge and when you open the doors they lead out onto a very tastefully furnished veranda where you can sit and relax with a cool drink or have a nice meal which you can prepare in the well organised fully fitted kitchen which also leads onto the veranda. In fact we spent a lot of our time chilling out on the veranda or relaxing in the sun in the delightful well kept garden which had an abundance of beautiful flower and trees visited daily by many birds and other wildlife and we even had a family of monkeys who came to play in the large mango tree which was lovely to see. Well I could go on forever singing Shelsea’s praises but the only way to experience this lovely home is to stay here yourself. I would just like to say many thanks to everyone who made our stay at Shelsea so very special and we look forward to coming back again next year. Also Sheila who owns Shelsea is such a lovely lady who is very friendly and very helpful if you have any questions.

Excellent villa in a great location

We just returned from a lovely holiday in Barbados. Our 18-night stay at Shelsea could not have been better. Shelsea is a lovely 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom villa, situated on a very quiet dirt road, just a minute’s walk from a lovely and quiet beach, yet close to some restaurants and bars. The house offers everything needed for a comfortable stay - spacious, cool, clean bedrooms, very comfortable beds, plenty of bath and beach towels, a fully equipped kitchen, laundry room, lovely outdoor space and lots of books. The outdoor space consists of a gorgeous tropical garden and a wonderful patio. The communication with Sheila ahead of our stay was clear and fast. Upon arrival we were greeted and given a tour of the house by Lou, she left behind a full folder of information on the house and island. Throughout our stay the wifi-service was impeccable. Between our time of booking and now, some of the pictures were updated. The pictures reflect the house and environment 100%! We rented a car and were happy we did so, especially since we were there during the sargassum seaweed influx, which impacted a lot of the southern and eastern beaches, including the beaches at walking distance. We simply packed all our things in the car and drove to different locations every day, combining discovering the island with swimming and snorkeling.

Absolutely loved it.

Recently returned from a two week stay at Shelsea and we really did not want to leave. The house is beautiful, the garden is a delight....so peaceful. Everywhere is so well kept, inside and outside. We spent many hours just sitting on the veranda watching the wildlife. Inside of the house is so lovely, the beds are really good, plenty of clean linen, loads of beach towels. The kitchen is very well stocked with good quality pots and pans, no problem to whip up a meal for the 6 of us. From arrival to leaving we were looked after really well by Lou and housekeeper Yvonne. The location of Shelsea is great, very handy for beaches, eateries, supermarkets. We hired a vehicle for our stay as we like the freedom of our own transport but you can quite easily get about on public transport. Also communications with the owner was first class. We will definitely return to Shelsea.

Fabulous

The location is amazing, only 2 minutes walk from a stunning beach with white sand and turquoise sea. A couple of bars are 2 or 3 minutes walk away. Oistins and a large supermarket are a 15 minutes stroll away. The villa itself easily sleeps 6 with 3 good sized bedrooms all air conditioned. The garden is beautiful and we saw humming birds and had a green monkey visit us. Sheila was so helpful from the moment we booked the villa and provided loads of information. On arrival we were met by Lou who again was really helpful. We had an amazing holiday in Barbados and can’t wait to return

Shelsea, one word - Fantastic

This villa is amazing., the kitchen had every thing you could possibly need, the outside dining area was lovely, the rooms were spacious and airy and no attention to detail was spared. Information on the villa and surrounding areas was provided which was a great help. The location couldn't be bettered, 2 minutes walk to an amazing beach with white sand and turquoise sea, incredible. There was a couple of bars near by and it was only a 15 minute stroll to Oistins for the fish fry night. I really can't recommend this villa enough, superb.

Why they chose this property

We love Shelsea for the beautiful gardens, relaxing, welcoming feel and proximity to the beach and shops & restaurants of the South Coast.
We bought this property having married in Barbados in 1985 and spending many happy holidays here.

What makes this property unique

Very close to the beach - no roads to cross so no need to dress to go to/from the beach. The garden is fantastic - we have a wonderful collection of tropical flowers, plants and trees. My favourite time is 5pm through to dusk when all the birds return home to sleep and the whistling frogs start their melody - just amazing!
