A small piece of Paradise
We stayed at Gully house with my family before Christmas (4 adults, 4 kids from 3 to 14) and the place was simply fantastic. The location is one of the most beautiful area on the island, the house is isolated, with a fantastic ocean view, lots of kangaroos and koalas around the property to see and enjoy everyday and evening when they all come up. The view of the valley is stunning, with a little private beach if you walk ten minutes down (or drive a 4WD). The place itself is really nice, all brand new and very modern with beautiful rooms (3 with the ocean view) and very long table to eat all together. Very nice house altogether with all you may need. The hosts were fantastic and so welcoming. Could not say more to recommend it. Simply magical.

Incredible location, beautiful home, incredible hosts!
We can not begin to express how incredible our experience in this home was! When we arrived, Janine, one of the property managers, met us at the gate to welcome us and show us how to get to the house - it’s a couple of minutes drive from the gate. The view was phenomenal (floor to ceiling windows!), the home itself was ultra modern and very clean. Janine quickly showed us around the house, and left us to enjoy! The house is truely in the middle of nowhere (which we loved!!!), it took an hour and a half to drive to the nearest supermarket, and 40 minutes or so to a service station which stocked essentials. Part of what makes this property so special is the isolation - you are really alone! There’s also a private beach on the property you can drive down to ignite you’re feeling adventurous! We would recommend having a very reliable car, and preferably one that has 4WD given the dirt roads and difficulty to access a mechanic. During our stay unfortunately we had some very serious car issues. The sun was going down, we were on the side of the road, and we were more than an hour away from the nearest town (where everything was shut anyway!). We called Janine and Terry (the property managers) who came to our rescue with jumper leads to get us going, and generously spent a number of hours helping us repair the part of the car that was broken the following day. Their hospitality and kindness absolutely blew us away! We can’t recommend this property highly enough!

Amazing Kangaroo Gully Retreat
Wonderful location and well appointed house. We loved watching the sun set on the verandah. The managers were super friendly and extremely helpful with local information. One of the highlights was seeing koala’s in the wild on the property. We also loved exploring the western end of the island especially Seal Bay. An amazing holiday experience.

Peace, Charm and Comfort
A beautifully situated and well designed house. The view out to sea is spectacular, but the view out the back to the grass trees and eucalypts is almost as lovely. A cook’s kitchen with good quality pots and pans was a pleasure to use. The beds and couches are comfy, and the day bed in the lounge is delightful. Our teens loved hiking down to Kangaroo Beach and other areas, and the wood burning stove worked extremely well. We would come back at the first opportunity. Caretakers Nick and Leena are legendary.

What a wonderful property and great hosts!
Suggested adventures for the group. Tick. Provided a great safe clean space. Tick. Were lovely to deal with, relaxed and super accomodating. This is a no brainer of a holiday destination if you want to use it as a base for exploring the island or staying in and getting away from the hustle of everyday life.

We absolutely loved staying at kangaroo gully house, so beautifully styled, very comfortable, beds very nice, the view is incredible and so peaceful. You might wonder where the road is leading to when you head out to the accom but the house is totally worth it. We stayed an extra night because we didnt want to leave, the hosts are lovely, and the private beach is the best beach you will find anywhere!!

Magnificent location
We thoroughly enjoyed our week at Kangaroo Gully Retreat. The location is stunning and the house very clean and comfortable with everything we needed for a memorable and extremely relaxing holiday. The views, sunsets, the night sky, wildlife, walks, Kangaroo Beach and the daybed for reading all made our holiday very relaxing. Thank you to Terry for answering all our questions and for keeping us warm with the firewood delivery.

Fantastic place to stay, don’t miss out!!
This property was fantastic, the location was stunning, the house was perfect nothing was forgotten about. We loved the remoteness and serenity. We loved the fireplace at night, the fact that the fire was ready to go on first night was a lovely touch. Look forward to staying here again.

Lovely house with everything that you'd need
We stayed 5 nights and it was just enough to enjoy KI and the wonderful property. Some things that first-timer visitors to KI (such as I) might be interested to know: 1. As with many houses on KI, the house uses rainwater stored in a water tank right next to the house. No issues with water quality. On our first night, the water in all the taps stopped running, and everyone had an "oh-oh" moment. Luckily, one of our group was a facilities manager, so he popped out to the water tank and literally flipped the pump switch leading out from the water tank "on-off-on" to reset the pump. Water started flowing again. It seemed the pump had tripped and so a simple reset solved the problem. 2. Driving down to the Kangaroo Beach was really lovely - we had a Mitsubishi Outlander that had 4WD, so it wasn't an issue. Just make sure to watch out for a small metal gate right next to the 3 houses that form Kangaroo Beach Lodges - the sign is pretty small so you might miss it if you weren't paying attention. Remember to close the gate behind you after driving through. We parked our car on the grass just at the foot of the hill, but did not drive onto the sand as we were worried about getting stuck on soft sand. Additional bonus for our kids - there was a rusty old tractor at the foot of the slope, that the kids loved climbing onto and "driving". 3. We were there in the winter, so the nights did get quite chilly, but it wasn't really an issue. The fireplace and the air-conditioning unit in the main living area was sufficient to heat up the big living/dining area, but the rooms did not have separate heaters. This wasn't an issue for us as the blankets / comforters were really warm. Do note that we had 2 young children with us (a 2yr old and a 5 yr old) who had never seen a fireplace before (we're from a tropical country!), and the 2 yr old did singe his fingers very briefly touching the fireplace. Lots of tear but no permanent damage, but do make sure to teach and monitor young children in your group to avoid burns. 4. Lastly, do remember to pop out to check the stars at night! It was cloudy most of the nights we were there, but on 1 of the nights we did manage to get a clear sky, and the stars were amazing - the whole sky was lit up!
