Great little winter escape
Arriving to music playing and heating on is a lovely touch in winter. The property managers say they pride themselves on the presentation of the internals of the property (and it shows), so well done. The location is nice and quiet, and as mentioned in the property description, a fairly long walk to the town centre. With a 2 year old in a pram, the walk to the town centre is really difficult, with minimal footpaths, and the coast path being quite rugged. This was expected however and not really an issue for us, but if you want the sea views and the quick stroll to the main street, the Long Beach location isn't for you. Some of the language in the 'welcome handbook' about leaving the house (and BBQ) in a clean state comes across a little aggressive, but a part of me can understand as, lets face it, tenants can be slobs. I just didn't like the tone, but that's because I see myself and our little family as dream tenants. The neighbours are lovely and actually gave us a tip on a local playground which we appreciated. The country town feel where everyone gives a little wave as they pass by is nice. Minor annoyances, no split system AC/ Heater downstairs just makes it a very different environment down there. Plug in heaters and blankets make it ok. BBQ ran out of gas which was a little annoying but there are instructions to seek reimbursement, which I will do. We used Robe as a base to see other sights on the Limestone Coast and i would highly recommend it. Would I stay in Robe again? Yes Would I stay in Surf & Sand again? Also Yes.

great location and lovely renovated home
we really enjoyed our stay at Surf and Sand. the upstairs was lovely and the view was great. location was superb, right on the beach, you could hear the waves crashing of a night time. the only thing that would have been better, was the outside rear yard was not able to be used. there was quite a bit of scrap in the rear of the yard which meant the toddler couldn't go out there, and also the fences were not high enough to be secure for the animals. a gas heater for winter would be great on the balcony - because it was cold we were really restricted to inside. Lots of bedding and space inside, downstairs was just really really cold. upstairs was great, with the use of the split system. bedding was comfortable and the bathrooms were very clean and modern. We would return

Surf & Sand is a lovely house & a lovely location.
We stayed down at Robe with a friend & another couple with their young daughter & our dog. Everyone had a great holiday. Our dog loved lying in the sun on the front deck. Daily walks on the beach & a few bike rides around the town. All in all a lovely beach house & very well situated. Lovely modern house inside & all the facilities you would expect to be comfortable & relaxed.

Loved the area
The house is in a great spot, close to the beach and very quiet. The house suited our needs. The booking and gaining entry process was very efficient. The beds were comfy, though it was cool and the boys needed extra quilts on their beds. The kitchen and the appliances worked well. The general ambiance of the house is lovely, and the furnishings are work well for a family. Some possible improvements: Maybe some spare blankets would be useful; A clothes dryer would also have been useful; A cleaner, tidier backyard would be more welcoming for little ones. Overall we really enjoyed our stay in Robe and the surrounding area (caves, wineries etc). Thank you!

Beautiful holiday home situated within walking distance of the famous long beach
Loved our stay in Robe, the town has so much to offer. We would highly recommend staying at this property for anyone wanting to experience the beautiful town of Robe. Waking up to views of the ocean and within walking distance of the famous long beach. I can’t think of a better property to stay at if you’re looking for a weekend away with family or friends.

About the host

Hosted by Happyshack

Host profile image
Happyshack have been a resident of Robe for countless generations (the last four are still ambling around, the rest lie in peace in our beautiful, historic and fascinating Robe cemetery). We have current generations of family in the town running and working local businesses, on the land farming magnificent lamb and beef, in the vines at Mount Benson making succulent reds and crisp whites and on the boats bringing in their quota of fresh crayfish.

We’ve spent our childhoods roaming Robes pristine beaches and investigating the rock pools, attending local sporting events, tobogganing down massive sand hills and camping in backyards. Our teenage years wandering aimlessly and parking on the beach with the music on as teenagers do, swimming, surfing, boarding, kayaking or just plain burning in the sun. We’ve driven down, on to Long Beach in the family car with a BBQ, esky and the kitchen sink and spent the entire day and most of the night there. We’ve skinny dipped in the seclusion of moon light and had camp fires on the beach and reminisced about the good old days. We’ve had the pleasure of waking to the sound of distant waves rhythmically crashing on the shore and to the idling of the diesel engine boats preparing to make the voyage to sea.

Our explosive Christmas tourist season enables us to have so much more than your average country town of 1300 permanent residents. There are specialty clothes and home wares stores, beauty and massage services, divine cafes and restaurants, expansive pubs with live music and poker nights, and every second hand and antique store you can think of. We even have a specialist coffee brewer, ice cream parlour and our own double cinema.

If you haven’t guessed by now, we love Robe, its home to us and we’d like to impart a little of that sense of belonging to you – our guests at Happyshack. Give us a call, if we don't know the answer, we definitely know someone who does.
