The guest house features two porches, with one overlooking the gardens and the Blue Ridge mountains. There are stables and a ring available for horses. You are welcome to walk the grounds or swim or relax in our Endless Pool.

It just is a wonderful, peaceful, private setting!

Come hike, bike or ride your horse on the 184.5 mile long Chesapeake & Ohio Canal located along the north bank of the Potomac River, starting in Washington, DC and ending in Cumberland, MD. Or, you can relax and enjoy the view of the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains from your private porch, while sipping wine from the local vineyards. Or cool off in the same setting in our Endless Pool.

Visit award winning Virginia wineries, just minutes from the house. Dine at excellent restaurants within 30 minutes drive. Shop at antiques shops, Leesburg Outlets Mall, or in prominent locations such as Middleburg VA. Spend an evening at the Charles Town WV race track and casino. See museums, from the Brunswick Railroad Museum (5 min) to the Smithsonian Air & Space Museum (40 min).

A commuter train to Washington is just 5 min away. Or just relax and enjoy the quiet setting.

Great getaway location

This is a great place for a couples' getaway for two (or even three) couples, as long as you don't mind sharing a bathroom. My wife and I and our friends stayed here in November and although it was a little rainy, we really enjoyed our stay. It's close to everything in Northern VA, but far enough in the country to be relaxing. The proprietors were kind and helpful, as well.

Wonderful Trip to see kids and grand kids

The grandkids would come during the day and they loved seeing the animals and feeding the donkey. They also enjoyed playing in the pool. Us grownups enjoyed the fresh eggs we had daily and the beautiful view we had while watching the kids in the pool. Nice garden to walk through and lots of land to go explore. Beds were comfy too.

The best!

This was our third stay with Bart and Carol at Linden Hill Farm. You can’t ask for more gracious hosts, nor a more beautiful, welcome setting! We are immediately relaxed in the surroundings, and all of the amenities are a plus. We weren’t far from family in Harper’s Ferry, so they were able to visit us as well to enjoy the back porch and the critters who make the farm their home. We love it!

Relaxing, picturesque property, great for kids

My two children (under 5 yo) and I really enjoyed our peaceful stay at Linden Hall Farm. The guest house is very well kept, the property is beautiful and lush, and Bart and Carol were kind and accommodating. My children loved the tire swing, farm animals, cozy beds and waffle and bacon breakfast that was provided for us. We took a day trip to Harper's Ferry, visited a few wineries, and enjoyed great meals at nearby restaurants. We hope to come again soon!

bucolic, well-appointed, fun

We, a family of four, stay at Linden Hall whenever we visit Loudoun County. It is a great way to experience Old Loudoun and have a mini-family vacation of our own when visiting family & friends. We love having three bedrooms to spread out it & everything we need at our fingertips to make meals & enjoy the countryside. Bart & Carol are thoughtful hosts--both in their preparation of the cottage & in ensuring we have everything we need once we are checked in.

A lovely Rerieve

A lovely reprieve from our busy lives. This bucolic setting offers privacy surrounded by some of the most beautiful countryside Virginia has to offer. With much attention to detail, the accommodations were pleasantly comfortable. Much to do about depending on your interests; hiking and good restaurants were mine. I would recommend a stay at Linden Farms any time and would consider giving it as a gift to a dear friend or family member.

A Farmhouse Getaway

An especially family focus Thanksgiving that brought back days of old when kids on the farm enjoyed life in its simplicity. This was the feeling and comment that ran across the family. A comfortable and warmly decorated retreat that encouraged one to slow down, smell the roses and pet the animals.

Thanksgiving on the farm

We met from three corners for a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday on the farm. Tha animals, fields, gardens and long paved drive gave wonderful outdoor opportunites for all three generations. Plus nearby historical sites and vineyards gave side trips. The resident owners are friendly, accommodating and eager to please yet not intrusive. A very clean, family friendly home in which to relax and cook up a feast!! We'll be back!

Loved it!

We were two couples who stayed at this house for a biking and hiking weekend. It was excellent. Bart and Carol are very nice and helpful. We enjoyed the house and it was well stocked. The dogs and donkeys were a wonderful addition to our weekend. We really enjoyed sitting on the back porch relaxing after a busy day and watching the birds at the feeders. I definitely would recommend this house.

Wonderful Stay

Linden Hall was the perfect fit for our stay in Lovettsville. It was what we expected and more. With a rich history, detailed decor, and beautiful grounds, Linden Hall offered a warm yet intriguing atmosphere. Bart and Carol made us feel very welcome and had all of the bases covered to make us feel right at home. The private porch and parlor area were very nice retreats for our family. The laundry room was very helpful to our family, especially since we have little ones. We would recommend Linden Hall to our family and friends in a heartbeat!

Great escape from the city!

We arrived to find heaven waiting for us! Everything from the well-stocked kitchen, lovely farm animals and dog friends, to an impecccably appointed guest house, all made for a lovely stay. Bart and Carol did not overlook one detail and balanced just the right amount of privacy with attention. We enjoyed a lovely visit to a local winery and enjoyed dinner at one of the recommended restaurants nearby. Our kids enjoyed learning about farm life and got to spend some much-needed time in the great outdoors. We will definitely return and recommend this to anyone looking for a relaxing, peaceful get-away.

Can't wait to come back!

We were 5 college friends looking for a relaxing weekend in a beautiful area and we got much more than that! The house is better than the pics could possibly convey and the extras such as breakfast food, area history and access to the pool show what caring and conscientious host the Hodgson's are. We had a wonderful time at the vineyards and wish we had had more time to try out more of the local restaurants Bart recommended or to have seen some of the historical landmarks around the area. This will just give us a reason to come back which I will absolutely look to do sooner than later. Thank You!

Great stay, amazing house

A lot of the reviews are written by families, and I'm sure Bart and Carol's home is fantastic for parents with kids. But this past weekend, my wife and I stayed at Linden Hall Farm on a weekend away and it was a terrific spot. While the house is adjacent to the larger farm house, there's plenty of privacy. Lots of great upgrades throughout the house, including the kitchen and the upstairs bathroom. Bart and Carol stock the fridge with a terrific breakfast, including cholesterol free eggs from their chickens. The scenery is amazing, with lots of rolling farmland along with sheep, miniature donkeys, and the owners four well behaved labs. Highly recommended, and we hope to return soon.

Beautiful!

Five of us stayed for a 'girls weekend', to celebrate my mom's birthday. We had a wonderful experience! The guest home is magnificent! It was very comfortable, relaxing, clean and felt like home. I have rented many homes through VRBO- and this home seriously is on the top of my list, for being wonderful! Food in the fridge, farm fresh eggs, milk, fixings for breakfast. Truly a lovely surprise :) Bart and Carol are very welcoming and their home and their property is absolutely beautiful! I'm honestly hoping to rent this beauty again. Such a great weekend! Thank you :)

Vacation/ Anniversary

First off, Bart and Carol counldn't be more accomodating and friendly. We arrived amd were greeted will well wishes for Our stay. When i needed a nice place to celebrate Our 19yr Wedding Anniversary, they gave me three choices but one stuck out; the Wine Kitchen on the Creek in Fredrick. The he was a beautiful welcome to tje staet of the Vacation, mornings on the front porch drinking coffee and relaxing before the start of the day. Also some nights on the back porch sipping my whiskey, I invited Bart over for a drink. We enjoyed the animals and the beauty, it was just the right spot to unwind from all the other stuff. So Thank You Bart & Carol for letting my family be a part of yours for a short stay. Sgt J Knapp USMC

Linden Hall

My husband and I stayed here with our daughter, her husband and our two granddaughters. It was a wonderful experience. The pictures on the Internet don't really do justice to the property as it is quite picturesque. Linden Hall is located so that we were able to travel easily to Gettysburg, Harper's Ferry and Washington D.C. The house was very clean and the décor of the home is charming and cozy. Also, the house was very well stocked for which we were most appreciative. Baby donkeys, sheep and dogs delighted the children. The owner was most gracious and helpful in providing useful information. Many pleasant family memories were created here and I would gladly recommend Linden Hall to friends and family.

About the host

Hosted by Bart Hodgson

Host profile image
Bart and Carol are your hosts at Linden Hall. The property was acquired in 1997. The previous owners had purchased the home in the 1960s and spent over 20 years restoring the rundown buildings, for which they won the 1984 Loudoun Preservation Society Merit Award. Since then, the Hodgson’s have continued to enhance the home inside and out. The Guest House was previously a rental home. In the Summer of 2009, the Hodgson’s decided to create an upscale lodging which would emphasize the rural setting and availability of local attractions. Over the following months, they labored to upgrade the kitchen, bathroom and furnishings throughout the residence.

The doors to Linden Hall Guest House opened in November 2010.

Why they chose this property

Warm, comfortable, and in a relaxing country setting central to many activities.

What makes this property unique

The setting is beautiful, and we have added a lot of landscaping. Children enjoy the farm animals and tire swing in a shaded lawn. The Guest House has a laundry, which makes it excellent for families on vacation. With free Wi-Fi, the Guest House offers a quiet and peaceful place to keep in touch with work and other interests.
