Ellen was so helpful and Quito respond. The property was so unique. Everyone in our family loved the house, the farm setting and walking down the mowed path. Absolutely would stay again.
After having to cancel a reservation in what we found out was a sketchy area of Richmond we were able to easily book this lovely house in the country. Although there weren't any horses the area was lovely with lots of birds and a great diner in Goochland. Great stay for my sisters, mother and I to meet my new nephew from Richmond!
This property is quaint and comfortable and had everything we needed (and more) for a wonderful weekend. Close to Short Pump for shopping but private and quiet. A great experience!
We stayed at The James at Clover Hill the weekend of our youngest daughter's wedding, which took place at Running Mare. The convenience could not have been beaten. We loved the history and quaintness of Clover Hill. Would definitely recommend!
Wonderful place with a great host! Our stay was so peaceful. We watched the moon rise and the sun set over the rolling acreage of CloverHill Farm daily. Our kids met the horses. The host, Ellen even helped with a little training for our pups.
The home was very clean and carried a sense of the farm’s history, yet the modern touches throughout made for a more than comfortable stay.
All in all, one of the most enjoyable stays we’ve had
Comfortable home, glorious country setting, charming overall! We were a group of older siblings gathering to tell stories, enjoy meals together, and be in nature. We got it all, and we loved it~ The firepit and sunsets with horses in the fields were accompanied by good weather as well. All good!
We had three generations of one family staying in the house and it worked out great. There are four bedrooms plus two smaller beds for munchkins in the upstairs landing. Lots of space in a quiet and serene setting with a few horses in the pastures. Had everything we needed and enjoyed the eclectic farmhouse decorations and antiques. The sunroom in the warmer months would be lovely. Ellen was great, we’ll be back again.
We stayed for just one night after running out of hope that our electricity/heat would eve be turned back on. Ellen was extremely kind and helpful in arranging the last minute stay. The home is quite cozy and very well-equipped. This would be an ideal spot for a family reunion or retreat. We arrived in the dark and woke up to beautiful views of the barns, horses and fields.
I highly recommend it if you are looking for a place to relax. There are lots of spots both indoors and out where people can either gather or seek some solitude. I would have given it 6 stars if I had been able!
Attended a wedding at a nearby property and found the property not only convenient to that venue, but the west end of Richmond as well. Could not have been better.
It was great to stay in such a beautiful place and hope to return next year to rent both The James and The Rosalie!! Loved the morning sun and the tree swing seat. Very well stocked kitchen, clean and comfortable.
We so enjoyed our stay. We were looking for a relaxing spot for Family to gather outside of Richmond. Everything we needed was there, communication was good. We loved the history displayed throughout the home. The house has a sweet, softly aged feel, yet the kitchen and baths have been nicely updated. Sitting in the sunroom watching the horses was very relaxing. The ride into Richmond was easy and beautiful.
We had a busy weekend with a nearby soccer tournament for my kids and it was so nice to go back to a place that felt like home away from home. Very nice
The house was very clean and equipped nicely. Beautiful setting on a farm with horses. We especially liked the large fire pit. House had plenty of beds for the 6 of us to sleep,
We were a group of 6 family members between 4 years old all the way up to 71. Every single one of us loved this property. The house was immaculate, well laid out, and it was very interesting to read about the history of the property. We enjoyed coffee on the front patio and drinks on the back patio watching the sunset. It was so peaceful and quiet and seeing the horses grazing was lovely. The kids all had so much fun running around the yard, building a fort in the bushes, and playing in the sunroom. We loved our time at this property.
The James was exactly as the pictures portray. It is a peaceful home in the country with several horses within view. The kitchen was well equipped as was the entire home. The bathrooms were fairly new with lots of hot water and great showers. It was a perfect gathering place for our family as we attended my moms memorial service in Bon Air.

I grew up in Richmond with backyard horses that summered in Goochland on Clover hlll, then owned by my Great Uncle James . Now the 3rd generation steward of this special property I am working to pass it on to my children. I live and work with my husband and extended family in Maryland on our commercial thoroughbred breeding farm. I also am a freelance photographer. I travel to the farm frequently to lend a hand w/ upkeep and relax in a setting that is peaceful and rejuvenating. I am happy to share this special place with like minded travelers that appreciate the beauty of the country.
