About this property

A harbourside four bedroom cottage with breathtaking views

Gull Cottage is an idyllic place to stay - a traditional and beautiful Grade II listed Cornish cottage occupying one of the most iconic locations in the area. It sits near the end of a small row of old Boscastle Harbour Cottages directly overlooking Boscastle's beautiful and historic harbour.

Situated on the south-facing side of the harbour the cottage is easily recognised by its distinctive boat-seat attached to the front of the house. The cottage's terrace is carved into the side of the harbour and is the perfect place to sit and relax, eat a meal or simply watch the sun go down.

Built around the end of the 1700s, Gull Cottage is in a very special area. It sits in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, a Site of Special Scientific Interest, a Special Area of Conservation and is in a designated conservation area. Nature and beauty is all around. The village is a short walk where there are cosy pubs, restaurants and coffee shops.

Downstairs is a comfortable lounge and a dining room with a good sized table - both rooms have a log-burning stove. There is also a kitchen and large, modern shower room.

Upstairs has a bathroom and four bedrooms: two doubles, a twin and one with bunk beds.

There are two parking spaces, one immediately outside the property and one to the rear in a car port - while this fits a family car, manoeuvring is a little tight!

The cottage is on the South West Coastal Path. From outside the cottage you can walk along the coast south to Tintagel, north to Pentagon Waterfall or walk the wooded path that follows the River Valency up and out of the valley.

Fantastic location and excellent accommodations
Steve was very helpful and accommodating with some small changes to our booking. The cottage is perfectly positioned next to the harbour for views and daily swimming in the aqua green waters of the harbour. The terrace is great spot to relax, dine and take it all in. We all loved our stay and will return.

Lovely cottage and location
The location was fantastic but what made the stay so special was the little touches, things like telescopes and binoculars to watch the stars, look at the boats and wild birds. Other things like chargers of various types, books and crabbing nets for the kids. All in all an absolutely fabulous place to stay

A beautiful, well-equipped, cosy cottage
Gull cottage is in an outstanding location in Boscastle, one of the prettiest villages in Cornwall. The cottage itself is very well looked after by the owners Steve and Louise. Steve is easily contacted if any problems arise and responds almost immediately. The cottage is like a tardis, much bigger inside than outside.

Enjoyable stay
Very pleased with the property and it's superb location. Weather could have been kinder but we managed to work around it by going to different places doing different things. We enjoyed ourselves every day. We often take a big jigsaw which we like to do together, and we managed to complete it. We have left it in the dining room for others to have a go.

Gull Cottage
Lovely old cottage in the most spectacular harbour in Cornwall. Ideal for walks on a magnificent wild coast, and plenty of beaches nearby for a bucket and spade holiday. We had a slight blip when the key safe refused to open and give us the key, but it was a one off and quickly and professionally dealt with. Been visiting Boscastle a lot over the years and always admired the row of Cottages overlooking the harbour. Finally stayed in one and it fully lived up to expectations, and that's in February!

Perfect
Just spent the Christmas period in Gull Cottage with my family for the second time! Cannot fault the properties’ facilities. We loved it the first time, but this time it had clearly been updated. The space, its cleanliness and comfort was outstanding. Location is perfect, even in the Winter, with plenty of locals walks and village facilities (including pubs) nearby. The communication with Steve was easy and reliable.

Wonderful Cottage, Fabulous Hosts
This cottage is beautiful, lovely comfortable furnishings, spotlessly clean and everything you need for a ‘home from home break’. It’s situated right within the harbour and has spectacular views, our family didn’t want to leave. A short 5 minute walk to the shops, restaurants and pub, what more could you want. Steve and Louise are fabulous hosts and made booking and updates/changes a breeze, so very accommodating. A huge thank you to both Steve and Louise for making this holiday one to remember for my very elderly parents, it was much appreciated by all the family. I would really recommend a stay here, especially for the scenery and coastal walks.

Spectacular
Gull Cottage. Just spent a week in this lovely cottage. Well equipped kitchen, for those who love to cook. Very comfy beds. A great feature is the terrace with fantastic views up and down the harbour, with seating where you can watch the world go by. We were blessed with fabulous weather so made good use of this area. Great walks around stunning Boscastle. Would highly recommend this cottage, as would the rest of our party. Four adults altogether.

Wow
Probably one of the best located cottages in Boscastle. Exceptional views and beautiful finishing touches. Two log burners which throw out enough heat to make you open the windows. Warm and cosy bedrooms once again with stunning views. I kayaked out past the harbour amongst the seals and stunning clasped caves. A must if you have a kayak to bring with you. All in all an amazing week spent in this very special part of Cornwall. Thank you for sharing your home and allowing us to experience the tranquility of Boscastle.

Cosy cottage right next to the tidal river
Historic property bought up to date very sympathetically but still cosy and very comfortable. Kitchen provides all you need to cook beautiful meals and a dining room where you can sit and watch the world go by. The living room also has views across the valley and the main bedroom we stayed in was extremely comfortable, lovely bed. The two bathrooms are very well fitted and a pleasure to use. There was a beautiful little patio garden at the front of the property overlooking the valley and river, as it was Christmas it was a little chilly to sit out but we did enjoy the view when coming and going from the cottage. There are great walks from the property for all abilities whether just down to Boscastle or up over the hills to the coastal path. A wonderful place to stay. Thank you.

A wonderful week in Gull cottage.
Gull cottage is well equipped with everything that our 2 families needed and plenty of room for kids / teens to have their own space. I was worried about having no garden but actually it was no problem as it is only ramblers passing, and the view from the terrace more than made up for it. We had a wonderful week and were sad to say goodbye.

Fantastic holiday
Gull cottage was as lovely as described on web site. Very clean and tasteful. Bedrooms light and spacious. It was also well kitted out in the kitchen as we cooked most evenings and ate in the dining room. Such a perfect location. We loved sitting out on the terrace. As soon as we arrived the kids got changed and jumped into the harbour off the pier to swim( it was very hot!). Boscastle is a sweet place with lots of little shops, art gallery, pottery, cafes and restaurants and all a five minute stroll from the cottage. We surfed most days at widemouth bay, easy to hire boards and wet suits, and one day walked to Tintagel which was more strenuous than we’d expected but very beautiful coastline. All together, fab holiday and great place to stay!

Gull Cottage
We had a wonderful stay at Gull Cottage. The location was perfect, the house clean, tidy and fully equipped and the owners nothing but helpful throughout the booking process, during and after our stay. The cottage is decorated beautifully and has everything you need for a family stay. It’s a two minute walk into the centre of Boscastle which means you are close to everything inc great restaurants like Rocket Store, the local pub the Cobweb and cafes, shops and attractions. The owners were nothing but helpful throughout, answering questions straight away and even finding and posting a misplaced earring after we left. I would wholeheartedly recommend Gull Cottage to anyone wanting a family stay, in the great location with easy access to the delights of north Cornwall.

About the host

Hosted by Steve and Louise Robinson

Host profile image
Steve and Louise live in North Hampshire in the UK. Having retired, they bought the cottage in Cornwall in December 2019 from a family who had themselves successfully run the cottage as a holiday home for over ten years. Steve has a life-long connection with the region with his family originating from Redruth in Cornwall.

The cottage serves as both a retirement business and somewhere for Steve and Louise to escape to: they hope it feels like a home-from-home to all those who stay there.

Steve and Louise have grown up children, all in the Hampshire area and all involved in making the cottage a great place to stay.

Why they chose this property

We looked for a property for two years - nothing ever came close to what we wanted, which was to open our doors on to the sea and immediately be among naturally beautiful countryside, until we saw Gull Cottage on a wet and blowy day. We instantly fell in love and the purchase was underway in hours. It one of the best decisions we've made. Coming from our home in a busy town, every time we arrive at the cottage we're blown away by the tranquillity and the beauty of Boscastle Harbour.

What makes this property unique

Natural beauty; from bright sunny skies to angry storms and everything in between. Short walks to pubs, restaurants, gift shops and long walks along the coast or in the river valley. Every water sport you can think of locally.
