The Pohutukawa Cottage....Tranquil.....and unusual
Quirky cottage completely renovated using as many recycled materials as possible with some special touches. Recycled materials were used from The Art Deco Mayfair threatre in Kaikoura. Also materials used from The Adelphi Hotel built in 1918. Kitchen custom made out of recycled cross arms off power polls and various other native timbers. Modern conveniences with stacks of retro and rustic charm. Enjoy a hot outdoor bath with a view to the mountains and two minutes walk to the beach. The odd train you will hear passing by.

Absolutely gorgeous wee bit of paradise, and the whole area was so well presented even for this time of year. We both loved all the little details, a great little romantic weekend away!
Was such a beautiful wee cottage, I loved it’s character and all the small things throughout the house, the outdoor bath was amazing
Would go back again and stay longer
Highly recommend to anyone
A lot of thought has gone into this property to create the cottage theme all the way through. It is clear the owners take great pride in this place. Great quiet location, with surf and town not far away.
A very special property with easy access to the beach. We loved the furnishings and the thought that had gone into everything. It felt like living in an old train station but with all of the services of a modern property. It has all of the amenities you need and has exceptional indoor and outdoor space. It is a very relaxing place to be.
Relaxing retro hideaway in Hapuku just north of kaikoura yownship.
Great hosts, beautiful hand crafted cottage and surtounds with that at home feel. Thanks so much. .. we would love to stay again.
Property was perfect in every way - super clean, really homely, great remote location but still just a short drive to a built up town, beach on your doorstep, outdoor bath for stargazing and everything provided for you. Would recommend this place to anyone and everyone
This cottage is absolutely spectacular. Every little detail has been thought of from the blanket blinds to the cutlery to match the retro décor.
Highly recommend to anyone looking for something very different to bog standard accommodation.
Quaint and quirky this step back in kiwiana in time was just delightful.
Some really wonderful touches to take you back to the good old days.
Chocolates were a nice touch. Weather was ok but can just imagine what things could have looked like if it had been really hot and sunny 🌞 😎
Great accommodation. Very relaxing, right beside the beach. Amazing views of southern alps. Very peaceful location. Its really not far from kaikoura, with New World and a number of take away options in a reasonable distance. Its a unique property that is obviously very well maintained. Highly recommend checking staying here.
There has been a lot of thought and love put into this place, with an artful eye for detail. Great location a few mins drive to Kaikoura or you could cycle in along the backroad. Next to the railway but so few trains going by we didn't notice Lovely and warm, outside bath under the stars is amazing. Woke up to fantastic view of the snow capped Ranges. Only wish we could have stayed longer.
This little cottage is so unique and beautifully crafted. It's comfortable, cozy, and creative. It was lovely to look out and see the snowy mountains, and to take a quick walk to the beach. The location was beautiful and close to Kaikoura, so we didn't feel isolated. Absolutely would stay here again, and will definitely be recommending to all our friends.
Loved Nibbles, the sound of the sea, views of the mountains, rustic off-grid feel, and the outdoor bath under the stars. Had a little trouble finding the cottage initially so a sign might be a good addition. Chur!
Staying here definitely made our trip special and memorable, the attention to detail in the property was incredible and very much a home from home. Really enjoyed all the pieces with stories dotted about the house. The outside bath was a treat, great cooking facilities and spotlessly clean. Made friends with the neighbourhood goat and enjoyed watching the quails scurrying about. Enjoyed the location slightly out of kaikoura but close enough and the beach was great. We added to the driftwood sculptures. Would stay again. Well done on a lovely renovation project.
