Guest Access
Guests have access to the whole house, including laundry room and closet space.
Interaction with Guests
I will be fighting wildfires throughout the west, so all our interactions will be via phone or Internet. I prefer texting since I will be at work most of the time and the cell service can be spotty.
The Neighborhood
Many of the neighbors have children. They spend much of the summer outside enjoying our wonderful neighborhood. A walking and mountain biking trail system is accessible two blocks from the house.
Getting Around
A bus stop for the free local bus is right across the street. Main St is only one mile away. Biking and walking to and from downtown is the norm.

About the host
Hosted by Martha Schoppe

I grew up in Maine, went to Oberlin College in Ohio, and then moved out west. I've lived in the southwest and mountains of Colorado now for a dozen years. I chose to settle down in Durango because of its close access to both the San Juan mountains and the red rock desert. I can easily escape the heat in the summer and the cold in the winter. The town is full of active people with which to enjoy trail running, floating the river, mountain biking, skiing, you name it, all within minutes of my home. Unfortunately, work takes me away from this oasis for half of the year. As a smokejumper, I travel throughout the western states, working to protect property and resources threatened by wildfires.
Why they chose this property
My home is just two blocks from a trailhead accessing many foot and mountain bike trails. More trails spur off in every direction from town. The home is in a quiet residential neighborhood, close to down town, yet far enough away to avoid the noise of traffic and tourist hubbub. It's an easy one mile walk or bike to Main St. There is also a bus stop across the street. The house itself is wonderful, with wood floors and light colors, making it a calming, comfortable space. There is a huge back yard with wildflowers, perennials, fruit trees, grass, and a shaded patio with lawn furniture. There is also a nice grass yard separating the house from the road in the front.
