We had an absolutely wonderful time at Dragonfly Cottage. The home had absolutely everything we could ask for. It had all the amenities two families with 5 kids between them could need and was super kid friendly. It was a great jumping off point to explore Acadia and a quiet and restful spot at night. We even learned on our hottest day that the neighboring camp ground pool has day passes for 3 per person. We absolutely loved our stay!
Nice home with good amenities to accommodate a large family. The pantry was stocked with enough supplies to get you started as the grocery stores are not nearby. The home is away from everything, it’s quiet and relaxing to stay. It’s walkable to Bass harbor lighthouse and the Seawall trail. Plenty of parking and yard for pets and cars to roam.
This house was big enough to easily accommodate 6 adults, 1 teenager, and 2 Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. Plenty of room to park and maneuver your vehicle. A huge family table perfect for eating and game playing. The kitchen is well equipped. The yard was large, with a lovely stand of pines bordering the backyard. One night we all laid down on the large deck and gazed at the stars! Oh, it was lovely. You can get fresh eggs every day in town, go up Wesley Street, located next to Southwest Cycle, and you’ll see eggs for sale on your left towards the top of the hill.We all had a wonderful stay at Dragonfly Cottage….and yes, the house is full of beautiful dragonflies.
We had a great stay and the house had everything we needed for our visit to Mount Desert Island. We had my 91 yr old mother with us who is very mobile but could definitely have used some kind of grab bar in at least 1 of the showers. While not terribly noisy, you do hear noise from the campground directly across the street but because the campground is there, the island explorer bus stop is literally right there for ease in getting around the island without using your car. The Bass Harbor Lighthouse is a half mile away. We walked to it every day but beware the road is narrow and can get very busy and the only place to walk is on the road. The house was close to several trails that we took advantage of. The house doesn’t have very close access to the water but we were able to drive to close by Seawall and set up chairs on the rocks. The house was chock full of a great selection of local information including books and maps for us to use as well. During our downtime at the house we enjoyed the back deck, Adirondack chairs and fire pit. If we had had our grandchildren with us, they would have loved playing on the great outdoor Ark jungle gym and toys provided.
Dragonfly Cottage had everything our extended family of nine needed. My granddaughters had limited toys they brought on vacation due to air travel, but the pirate ship playground, riding toys, swing and many indoor toys kept them happy and busy for our entire stay. Our family cooked many of our meals and had no problem finding the cookware needed. Many of the necessary spices were on hand also. The home was immaculate and had large spaces to gather including the kitchen, living room and basement. A sliding door can be shut between the basement and the main floor of the house to allow for more privacy. A washer and dryer were available on both levels of the house as well as a smaller kitchen in the basement. The house is located on a quieter part of the island. The Bass Harbor Lighthouse is within walking distance and Ship Harbor Nature Trail, a fun, easy hike is nearby too.I would highly recommend this home to anyone planning a stay in the Bar Harbor/Acadia NP area.
This is one of the most comfortable homes we've stayed in. It's well organized and has anything you might need. The location is great to restaurants, great hikes, and the lighthouse. Wonderful!
This beautiful house was absolutely amazing!! Had everything you can imagine for your stay. Beds super comfortable. Also, gave us a nice welcome basket with lots of different treats in it.
Would definitely stay here again and recommend highly. Thank you.
First time staying on the quiet side. Discovered new trails and great places to eat. The upstairs was very clean and spacious for all 7 of us. Loved all the outdoor space.
We really enjoyed our stay. The cottage has dragonfly-themed decor, even on the plates and cabinets handles. It was well-equipped with all the amenities I needed for a comfortable stay, including a fully stocked kitchen. 15 min walk to the lighthouse.
Our hosts provided everything needed for a wonderful stay. The home is beautiful and spacious and the location can’t be beat. Walking distance to the lighthouse and hiking trails. Perfect! Our group loved our stay here. Zero complaints.
This was our first trip to Maine, so when I booked the property it sounded like the location would be a good location and the house would be the size we needed. We were not disappointed with anything! The location was awesome, very quiet, close to some awesome trails and the water! The house was wonderful everything we needed and more! My grandsons loved the play set and toys!
Thank you for sharing your home with us.
We loved our stay at this house. We love Bar Harbor but hate the crowds, so it was so great to be on the quiet side of the island. Bass Harbor is beautiful without the hassle. This very large house is in a great location for some of Acadia’s less famous (but still amazing) spots. The house had everything we needed for a stress free vacation. We loved the well equipped kitchen, big dining room table, coffee station, huge deck and those great mattresses! It really felt like a home away from home!
We throughly enjoyed our stay at Dragonfly Cottage! The house is lovely and was just perfect for our family. We absolutely loved the location because it was convenient to Acadia and all the activities we planned. It was away from the busy places and was quiet. The children loved the pirate play ship, the riding toys, and the toys inside. The kitchen was very well equipped and clean. As was the entire house. If you are looking for a great place to stay this one is for you.
What a lovely experience we had for the two weeks we visited. This home was located near bass harbor light house and just down the street from several lovely walks to the ocean. Plenty of rooms to accommodate the friends and family visiting together. Clean and charming decor. The large back deck overlooking a large back yard and woods was great for having relaxing cookouts. Located on the quiet side of the island. Convenient drive to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. Owner was easy to reach with any questions we had. I would definitely rent this house again!!
We gathered from Boston, NYC, Ohio and Colorado for a very enjoyable family vacation at the Dragonfly Cottage. Our young grandkids were checking out the pirate ship in front yard before we had the cars unloaded, and the ship and the wheeled outdoor toys kept them very busy when we were at the house. Bedrooms on two floors let us put those small kids to sleep while the adults stayed up watching movies, working puzzles or just talking.
There is an incredible variety of restaurants in the area, but with preschoolers, seafood allergies and outdoor group activities that could be so much fun it was hard to make it for a restaurant reservation time, it was just easier to prepare some meals ourselves, and we very much appreciated the large, well-appointed kitchen, the grill on back deck, and the large indoor and outdoor eating areas that allowed us to do that. Having 2 washers and 2 dryers available was a big help, especially since the weather was considerably hotter than predicted, and sweaty clothes really needed washed after every hike or bike ride. This home was ideal for our family reunion and we'd highly recommend it for any group that comes to the Acadia area for the outdoor activities, but also wants some down time together.
The house worked well for our group of six ladies. The large kitchen and deck, complete with wooded back yard, were especially nice. The location was convenient, close to hiking trails, restaurants, and groceries.
One suggestion I would make would be to remove some of the personal items/knick-knacks in the bedrooms so that guests have more space for their items.
Perfect place for us, the kids and grandkids! The split level gives everyone their own private space but the kitchen and livingroom are large enough for everyone to gather together. The large yard and "pirate ship" playground were great entertainment for the kids when we weren't exploring the island. Location is great, a short walk to Bass Harbor Lighthouse. Absolutley one of our favorite locations and our host was very responsive to the few questions we had. Highly recommend the Dragonfly!
We rented this place for a week at the end of the summer for a family vacation with extended family to explore Acadia and Bar Harbor. This was our 4th trip to Acadia but first time with a large group and staying in Bass Harbor. We had some hiccups but overall, had a decent stay. We discovered a new favorite restaurant for lobster rolls during this trip - Archie’s!! Highly recommend!!
Pros
-good, quiet area. The house is 30 minutes to Bar Harbor and Acadia but very close to Bass Harbor lighthouse, Echo Lake, Shipharbor Trail, Wonderland Trail and SW Harbor
-large spacious house with room for multiple couples
-ceiling fans plus stand up fans in all bedrooms makes it comfortable despite no AC
-plenty of space in the kitchen to cook, hang out and enjoy meals
-great back deck to have morning coffee and grill
-Washer and dryer on both floors, as well as toilets and showers. There is detergent and dryer balls, but we brought all of our own laundry products.
-a fantastic ship playground out front was a huge hit for the kids
Cons:
-upon arrival, the basement was not fully cleaned. There was a ball of hair in the shower, hair on the toilet seat, outside of the bowl and in the sink. The queen room had not been cleaned - the sheets had hair in them and a stain and some of the guests unfortunately found that out when they were ready to get into bed the first night.
-there were about 20 phorid (drain) flies in the basement sink and a couple upstairs in the kitchen sink when we all arrived.
-the pipe in the basement ceiling of the living room leaks water when the shower was being used
I contacted the owner late that night and she responded the next morning apologizing. I asked her to come clean the bathroom and queen room and to pour bleach down the drains to start the process of killing the drain flies. She came by that day to do everything. It definitely decreased the number of phorid flies while we were there. She was easy to reach and responsive.
There are a lot of decorations and trinkets around the house which doesn't allow space for guests to put personal belongings out so I would recommend to the owner to put their items away when they aren't living at the house.
Overall, this house is spacious, comfortable and in a quiet location. It's great for a large group and we enjoyed our stay.
Peaceful vacation house with awe-inspiring star gazing
Very peaceful vacation house in Bass Harbor, walking distance to the lighthouse and the Island Explorer bus into the National Park. The stargazing from the back deck was awe-inspiring. The kitchen is very well equipped, and the college kids enjoyed having their own space (including fridge and TV) in the basement. Like most coastal Maine houses, there is no air conditioning, but fans and open windows kept us comfortable. We would definitely stay here again!
