About this property

The Blue House on Dead End Road

Set on a quiet dead end road not far from Rt 209 and 44/55, this home is convenient to Ellenville, New Paltz, Stone Ridge and Kingston. There's plenty to do in the area, but if you want to stay on the 1 acre property, we've made sure there's enough to keep you busy outdoors and in. Relax on the super sized deck or roast s'mores in the fire pit. The property is dog friendly and fully fenced in. We have two TVs for streaming or DVD, WiFi, CDs, board games and books. Sit by the propane stove and stay cozy!

The entire 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom home is yours. Enter through the open living room/kitchen area. There's a bedroom and full brand new bathroom on the first floor up a couple of steps. A small den is also on this level, with a second TV and library.

There are two more large bedrooms upstairs. The King sized bed ensuite has a desk for our writer and working guests. The queen sized bedroom is probably the largest, and here you can hang out and play chess at the table. This shares a bathroom with the master bedroom.

Four week summer stay
We had a great stay here, and especially appreciated all the dog friendly elements. Great fenced yard, nice spaces for different guests during the stay, well equipped and stocked. Host Phyllis was great, and everything easy. The location is close enough to NYC and NJ to get back and forth as needed. Locally, we swam and hiked at Lake Minnewaska state park, and dined at Marbella, Nick and Tony's, Aroma Thyme, and Mill & Main. Shadowland Theater in Ellenville and Murder Mystery Theater at the Paper Mill were fun outings. Ate BBQ and saw some live music at Outpost/Kerhonkytonk and played some pool at Thee Lair. Shopped at Walmart nearby but also many farm stores in the area for fresh food. Definitely more of an upstate country feel than New Palz, for example, but we surprisingly never felt the need to drive the half hour to go there. We want to return here when we can for sure.

Blue Skies Smiling at the Blue House
The Blue House is a perfect place to stay for several generations of a family or two couples. My husband and I were comfortable on our first floor "suite" while my son, wife, and teenage daughter shared two bedrooms and a bathroom upstairs. The living room with two large sofas and TV was great for hanging out. The kitchen had everything you could possibly need. The refrigerator is not huge, but there was plenty of space for our two families. Although, if you wanted to keep a case of beer cold, you might need a cooler. The wrap around deck provides a shady side and a sunny side as the sun moves around the house. The location is close to Mohonk Nature Preserve and various trails for hiking, and between Kingston, Ellenville and New Paltz for restaurants, theaters and shopping. Even though there are houses nearby, you don't see them - so it feels like you are out in the woods with no noise, but the sounds of birds. The beds are comfortable and the bedrooms are large. You won't be disappointed.

Quiet well equity house with lots of room
We had a lovely 3 day long weekend in February. The house was warm, very well equipped and the bedrooms were very spacious. Dog friendly and a fenced in yard was a huge plus. Hosts were communicative and helpful. We will be back as it’s rare to find a place to meets and even exceeds expectations these days.

Good vibes and beautiful place!
The Blue House is simply magnificent. The rooms are spacious, the beds are incredibly comfortable, the bathrooms are gorgeous, the living room and den are beautiful (with a TV in each!), the kitchen is well appointed, and the property feels like you are entirely in the country, yet you are just a moment away from all the amenities you might need! Even more importantly, the house is filled with good vibes -- you can tell it was restored with love and laughter in mind :) I absolutely DID NOT want to leave -- we will definitely be back! Oh, and the "notes" on what to do in the area provided our personal tour guide to fully enjoy food, shopping, and outdoor activities!

Great House !
My family stayed in this house for a weekend in August and it was a great experience ! The house is such a fun place to spend time. The location is in a quiet, pretty place in the woods but it is easily accessible to such good restaurants ( Westwind Orchards and Arrowood Farms) as well as hiking trails. Phyllis is a wonderful host ! She responded immediately to any questions and could not have been nicer. It is very apparent that she really cares about her house. I highly recommend this house !

I absolutely love this home! We stayed for a second time with our dogs and they absolutely loved it. It's It's dogs paradise. Phyllis has created an absolutely beautiful home that is welcoming and feels so warm and cozy. The yard is amazing being that it's fenced in, the dogs have so much space to run and play. Stay number 2 was just as great as the first!

Absolutely perfect!
We stayed the weekend at this beautiful home with 3 dogs, and 5 adults. It was absolutely perfect. Wish we had stayed longer. I had to leave a review because Phyllis really created such an incredibly warm, welcoming home for her guests. Everything you could possible need for your fur babies is there. Not to mention having a fenced in yard was amazing. On top of that having baby gated provided so we could keep the dogs on the deck was a check plus, plus, plus. The kitchen was fully stocked with every utensil you could possibly need, and the beds were all comfortable and welcoming. The home is located 10 minutes away from Minnewaska state park which made life so much easier. We are definitely planning on staying at this home again, if Phyllis will have us that is. Our pup had the time of his life, and was so comfortable. He had a ton of space and we were so happy that Phyllis was a dog person, she was so understanding and accommodating. To top it off she was excellent with communication. All in all this experience was wonderful and we are so happy and thankful for being able to stay in this home!

Fun, funky and well-situated
Phyllis was a wonderful host, and you can see all the love that she has put into the blue house. We had a great time, and the rental’s location made it easy for us to explore several surrounding towns, even though we were able to relax and listen to the quiet of the forest in the evenings. Our dogs loves the yard. And my husbands favorite spot was the fire pit tucked away and on the forest’s edge. We hope to return!

Perfect house, perfect location!
Our family has been visiting the Gunks for several years, and the Blue House is our favorite stay so far! The house has very comfortable spaces for hanging out (indoors and out) as well as cooking and eating together, plus three good-sized bedrooms. There is also a separate cozy den, which makes it possible for some to watch a movie while others are in the living room. Art and decor is interesting and eclectic. Another huge plus is that pets are welcome, and the fenced yard provides space for a romp. And the location, is just 15 minutes from Minnewaska and Mohonk Preserve! There are also nice local amenities, including a farm stand (in addition to produce, there are all kinds of delectable baked goods, honey, pickles,...) just down the road, a nearby brew-pub, and more. The owners are also very helpful and responsive. Highly recommended!

Host profile image
Phyllis here. I'm a native Brooklynite who spent my summers in the Catskills growing up. During the early naughts, hubby Luke and I spent weekends in Marbletown and fell in love with the small towns in that area. An ex-photographer and current real estate person, I'm a serial renovator. Luke is a civil engineer. As a handy and creative couple, we love to restore houses! This one dates back to the 1940's but any historic detail was already gone. When we fix up a property, we always try to use recycled materials and update what's there. Hence my business name: Reclaimed Home.

Why they chose this property

The cute blue house was a no brainer after months of searching. It's both quiet and convenient. We love having the choice to travel from 87 through New Paltz or on the Quickway through Middletown. Being so close to 209, we can head down to up and coming Ellenville or up to Kingston in no time. It's so close to Minnewaska as well.

The house was in good shape when we bought it, so that we thought we wouldn't even paint. But alas, we had to put our own signature on it, so as of 2023, we've already renovated twice. In any case, the layout is great. Open living room/kitchen area. There's a bedroom and full bath on the first floor, and a den with a second TV.

Upstairs has two more bedrooms with a shared bath. Six can sleep very comfortably, but there's a sleeper couch in the LR and another in the den for teens or snorers.

What makes this property unique

The quiet road is lovely during all seasons, but we do have neighbors. One of those neighbors is the horse farm up the road. We say hello to the horses when we walk the dogs down to the local seasonal farm stand to pick up our local organic produce.

We've made every effort to keep the house entertaining and comfortable during rainy, snowy or cold days when you just want to hang.
