About this property

The BirdDog Farm Cabin #1

The Birddog Farm
Welcome to the Birddog Farm. The farm is our dream and we are proof that it is never too late in life to act on a big, shake you out of your comfort zone, dream. The name Birddog was our pet name for our beloved Black Lab Mix, Birdie. She was given a golfing name as she was rescued by the golf maintenance man from our local golf course. There were two beautiful sisters approximately 12 weeks old being dumped in a shopping mall parking lot.
I tell you this as Birdie was our first dog we adopted as a family. She was there for it all. She grew in to be the matriarch and welcomed all that came into the house, human as well as animal. She sized everyone up, checked everyone out as the protector she was. Every wayward stray she took under her wing and in her old age when you thought she could handle no more, she always seemed to garner the strength to nurture one more, though maybe with slightly less patience. Her love for all of us was so unconditional words could never describe.
For her incredible life we named our Farm and commit to take all that come to enjoy the gifts that nature has to offer under our wings. This beautiful Hollow of 60 acres is The BirdDog Farm. We have lived here since March of 2018 and hope we can remain, God willing, till it is our time to leave this earth or he makes other plans for us. Our family has always made room in our home for as many as wanted or needed to come and we have been blessed by each and everyone….even those last minute unexpected arrivals.
We have 5 Newly finished Country Cabins on the property each with private on-suite bathrooms and rocking chair front porches. You can rent 1, 2, etc. or all 5. The 5th cabin is our largest cabin and can be used as a dual purpose gathering room with a small kitchenette as well as sleeping accommodations. WHEN BOOKING MORE THAN 1 CABIN, THEY WILL NEED TO EACH BE BOOKED SEPARATELY. Each room is outfitted with a Queen Size Bed with Memory Soft Mattresses, high quality linens, Wi-Fi, Flat Screened TV's, Coffee/Beverage Bars, Toasters, Kitchen Supplies (Stoneware, Utensils, Glassware), Mini Frig/Freezer, Microwaves, Irons, Hairdryers, USB Charging Ports, 1 set of walkie talkies, binoculars for viewing the abundance of wildlife, smoke detectors, and dry chemical fire extinguishers. Property has a 1 acre lake that is fully stocked with large mouth bass, catfish, and Blue Gill. We have plenty of fishing poles to share. Walkies Talkies can be used to contact the main house or each other as you set out to hike the property, walk down to the neighboring Alpaca Farm, or simply for fun. Outdoor Grills and picnic tables are provided for cooking and eating. Property has a firepit for those chilly evenings or roasting marshmallows ***weather permitting******. We also have corn hole boards, plenty of board games for evening fun, and of course plenty of jars for catching fire flies. Cabins are also stocked with bug repellent, anti itch gel, and first aid kits. Since we are out in the country, the owner provides a selection of complimentary snacks/fruit and additional snacks and drinks that can be purchased on the honor system in each room. If you would like for your cabin to be stocked with specific types of snacks/meals/beverages, just let us know ahead of your arrival and we will have those here for you at a reasonable fee.

We are located about 50 minutes from Nashville and 15 minutes from Cordell Hull Reservoir/Defeated Creek Marina. Fisherman's paradise for Lg & Small Mouth Bass. The farm has room for the boats/trailers and a place for you to plug into. Each cabin will also have a marina pass to get you into the swimming area and boat ramp. There are many other things to do locally and still close enough to Nashville to take in the sights and sounds of music city. Each room has a list of attractions, recommended local eateries, watering holes, etc. If you need help planning a day trip just let us know in advance and we'll help you out.

We welcome you as one of our many blessings and invite you to enjoy our home and the beauty of the nature that surrounds it. We hope to share many of our crazy family stories and the opportunity to listen to yours as well. We hope you will enjoy your stay here at the BirdDog Farm and we welcome you back as often as you would like to come.
With Our Warm Regards,

Very clean cabins and so quite and beautiful. JoAnne was very accommodating helping us in every way. Our GPS wasn't working right and they came and got us and we followed them to the cabin. I'd definitely stay here again

Cozy and equipped with everything you need!

We were in the area to visit family in Lafayette which is about a 20 minute drive. The cabins are located in the country which we happen to love. They were well equipped, clean, and relaxing for a restful stay. The hosts were very kind and helpful! Would definitely recommend and we will be back again next time we visit family. We did not utilize the grill or fire pit but they were available. Looking forward to this on our future stays.

Wonderful Getaway

I had a wonderful time at Bird Dog Farm. JoAnne and Terry were wonderful hosts. They were readily available if you needed, but gave your space. The property was beautiful and very well kept, as were the cabins. JoAnne has made a couple of the cabins pet friendly which was a major sell for me. I was able to bring my puppy along with me. The area was secluded which is just what I was looking for. Overall is was a wonderful trip, and I am sure I will be back some point to stay again.

The owners were great! They were very helpful and treated us like family while we were there. The perfect description in my opinion is Glamping (glamourus camping) ... All the Fun and pleasures of camping with All the luxury and comforts of home!! The night before we left Joanne even showed up at our cabin to bring us some raspberries she had just picked! She met us at the local S&P to show us the way to the cabin because cell service is spotty out there!! We will definitely go back someday!

A little slice of heaven in beautiful Tennessee

If I am able to stay at BirdDog Farm in the future, I’ll be anticipating it so fondly. There wasn’t a moment there that I didn’t feel taken care of if I’d ask to be and knew my comfort was being thought of always. So many thoughtful touches there both big and small. If anyone reading this chooses to stay, you’re in for a treat. I wish it was just my secret though….it’s like that.

Wish I Didn’t Have To Leave

We loved every minute of our stay at Bird Dog Farm. The cabin was beautifully equipped and comfortable. We stayed 5 nights, and would have loved to have stayed longer. The sight of deer and fireflies at dusk was pure magic, and my husband really enjoyed fishing for bass in the catch and release pond on the property. It is off the beaten path, and cell phone signals are spotty, but the wi-fi in the cabins work very well. The cabins are surrounded by rolling hills, and, in my humble opinion, the middle-Tennessee vistas and views can’t be beat. Hope to visit again soon!

Breathtaking

They are tucked away back in the woods, not close to any main highway, it was absolute bliss. You couldn't get any quieter. I walked outside to have my coffee the first morning and watched the deer in the field and even heard a turkey gobbling in the woods. The folks who own the property were fabulous. Very friendly and welcoming. I highly recommend The Bird Dog Farm. You'll love it!!!!!

Beautiful property

My fiancé and I loved our stay at Joanne and Terry's property! It is a beautiful piece of peace out there with all the wildlife and waterways. Every night we heard turkeys outside the cabin in the early morning which was pretty neat! Incredibly dark at night which was perfect for night sky viewing. They gave grills and a counter top conduction plate. My fiancé enjoyed the goodies they left to welcome us in but as a celiac I could only look. It was big enough for the both of us and we enjoyed sitting on the little porch at night. Even met and talked to some of the next door cabin neighbors. We will definitely be coming back!

We stayed for only 4 nights and our only regret is we had to go home! Many thank yous to the owners, The Kemps, who live on the property. They were very welcoming and prepared the cabin to be most inviting. Our cabin was cozy and wonderful with a private bathroom and great hot water! The large property is safe and secluded but within 20-30 mins of stores and restaurants and/or outdoor activities like kayaking or canoeing. Although we didn't have time, the owners also advised we could hike the entire property or fish (catch & release) in their pond! We highly recommend staying here and know we'll definitely be back but for a longer visit next time!!

Just know before you go

Very peaceful! JoAnne was wonderful and we enjoyed our stay. I simply failed to do my homework beforehand and didn't realize certain details until we arrived. Be aware that the cabin is one room (plus 3/4 bath) with a bed/nightstand, chair, minifridge, microwave, small Keurig, and toaster. The road was rough on my old sedan but would be no problem for a 4x4.

Family get away

The cabins were selected by a family member for a reunion. They were in a beautiful setting at the end of a hollow with hills all around. Parking is near the cabins with a short walk to the cabins. If you have any type of mobility issue then this may not be the best type of setting for you. The owners were accommodating in allowing us to park as close as we could to the cabin. There was still a small incline and 2 steps up into the cabin. The cabin was clean and stylishly decorated to make it feel unique. The outside area is well maintained. We enjoyed sitting on the porch watching the hummingbirds and wide life (deer and rabbits) near by. The Wi-Fi service was good and very useful as there is no cell service for several miles.

Weekend trip to the TN mountains

My partner and I decided to take a weekend trip to the mountains, and it was absolutely terrific! The place is out of cell phone reception, but we were met and directed to the cabin, and given a grand tour of the place. It was very cold (single digits to low 30s) the whole weekend, but did get to see the alpaca farm down the road (almost literally next door) and it was fantastic. We felt very welcomed, and after I made the mistake of anticipating a full kitchen the first night, I felt terrible even as we were even helped with making adjustments to our dinner plans. Would definitely consider returning in the future

Perfect Place To Unplug

My husband and I wanted a get-away where we could relax and unplug for a few days. This cabin was perfect. Joanne was so nice and accommodating and went out of her way to make us feel welcome. The cabin was so cute and extremely clean. The snacks that Joanne left for us were an extra special treat. We arrived after dark but we met Joanne at a nearby gas station and we followed her back to her beautiful property without any problem. Before she left us, she made sure we were able to connect to her wi-fi and walked me thru setting up my phone to make wi-fi calls. She was so helpful. We brought one of our dogs with us and she enjoyed all of the new sights and sounds out in the country. We saw lots of deer and turkey in the field behind us. They were so pretty! We did all of our cooking on an outdoor griddle we brought with us and we enjoyed our meals at the picnic table under the umbrella. We had a great time at Bird Dog Farm and would love to go back again. We highly recommend it if you want to unplug and relax for a few days.

My husband has lived in the Nashville area all his life and was born in Nashville. Most of his very large family still live in the Nashville vicinity. ,I however, was originally from New York state and traveled a lot with my family. My family transferred to TN when I was headed off to college, so I chose the University of TN to go to school. My folks settled in Franklin, TN in the 70's and have lived there ever since. I lived in Brentwood, TN until I married and Terry and I have lived in Hendersonville, TN until we found our property in 2018. We are both quite familiar with the area an are more than happy to help plan any outings if you care to.

Why they chose this property

This property aside from its obvious beauty is very private and secluded. We have wonderful neighbors that appreciate nature and the desire to preserve it. We own the entire hollow so there is abundance of wildlife, security and solitude. We searched for over 10 years looking for just that right piece of land until we finally realized perfection did not exist. However, we believe our piece of heaven in Dixon Springs comes pretty close. From the day we stepped foot on the property as the new owners, we have worked diligently to add value to our property and the land. We have a TO DO List a mile long and will continue to improve and add value each and every year. The cabin were a shell when we purchased the property and bathrooms amounted to water lines. As any good husband knows, a happy wife makes for a happy life and Mom opted for individual bathrooms and not a bath house. I think all agreed it was the best decision. Eventually we would like to construct a nice pavilion for weddings and larger gatherings. However our next big project is renovating the barn.

What makes this property unique

The property speaks for itself. If you are coming for solitude, camping, hiking, fishing, hunting, reunions, events, etc. the cabins are comfortable and peaceful. You will very rarely hear traffic of any kind unless it is your own or us coming down the private road. The property is close to many local activities and restaurants as well as close enough to Nashville to take in the sights and sounds of Music City. If you are looking for a truly peaceful getaway where you hear absolutely no cars, except your own, no emergency vehicles, and the stars are so bright against a jet black sky, The BirdDog Farm is that place. We have all kinds of wildlife back here in the Holler as they call it in the south. Deer abound, incredible bird watching, bunnies galore, the occasional stray pony from next door will wander over, and our dogs will come down from time to time to greet you. If you are looking for a reprieve from the hustle & city bustle, come stay and get some real peace out here at the BirdDog Farm. There are so many things we love about this property but one of my favorites is the sight and sound of the wind when it sways the large trees at the top of the ridge and watching the weather fronts roll in from the high perch in the back of the property. To our Guests that have traveled with their faithful companions, we know the importance of being able to travel with them and not leaving them behind or in a cold kennel. We too have trusted companions we travel with so it has been a mission of ours to allow for a certain number of cabins to be pet friendly and some to remain pet free due to allergy concerns. While we do allow dogs, we ask that you keep them from getting on the furniture and the beds/linens so that we can keep these things free of allergens.
