About this property

BirdDog Farm Cabin #3

The Birddog Farm
Welcome to the Birddog Farm. The farm is our dream and we are proof that it is never too late in life to act on a big, shake you out of your comfort zone, dream. The name Birddog was our pet name for our beloved Black Lab Mix, Birdie. She was given a golfing name as she was rescued by the golf maintenance man from our local golf course. There were two beautiful sisters approximately 12 weeks old being dumped in a shopping mall parking lot.
I tell you this as Birdie was our first dog we adopted as a family. She was there for it all. She grew in to be the matriarch and welcomed all that came into the house, human as well as animal. She sized everyone up, checked everyone out as the protector she was. Every wayward stray she took under her wing and in her old age when you thought she could handle no more, she always seemed to garner the strength to nurture one more, though maybe with slightly less patience. Her love for all of us was so unconditional words could never describe.
For her incredible life we named our Farm and commit to take all that come to enjoy the gifts that nature has to offer under our wings. This beautiful Hollow of 60 acres is The BirdDog Farm. We have lived here since March of 2018 and hope we can remain, God willing, till it is our time to leave this earth or he makes other plans for us. Our family has always made room in our home for as many as wanted or needed to come and we have been blessed by each and everyone….even those last minute unexpected arrivals.
We have 5 Newly finished Country Cabins on the property each with private on-suite bathrooms and rocking chair front porches. You can rent 1, 2, etc. or all 5. The 5th cabin is our largest cabin and can be used as a dual purpose gathering room with a small kitchenette as well as sleeping accommodations. WHEN BOOKING MORE THAN 1 CABIN, THEY WILL NEED TO EACH BE BOOKED SEPARATELY. Each room is outfitted with a Queen Size Bed with Memory Soft Mattresses, high quality linens, Wi-Fi, Flat Screened TV's, Coffee/Beverage Bars, Toasters, Kitchen Supplies (Stoneware, Utensils, Glassware), Mini Frig/Freezer, Microwaves, Irons, Hairdryers, USB Charging Ports, 1 set of walkie talkies, binoculars for viewing the abundance of wildlife, smoke detectors, and dry chemical fire extinguishers. Property has a 1 acre lake that is fully stocked with large mouth bass, catfish, and Blue Gill. We have plenty of fishing poles to share. Walkies Talkies can be used to contact the main house or each other as you set out to hike the property, walk down to the neighboring Alpaca Farm, or simply for fun. Outdoor Grills and picnic tables are provided for cooking and eating. Property has a firepit for those chilly evenings or roasting marshmallows ***weather permitting******. We also have corn hole boards, plenty of board games for evening fun, and of course plenty of jars for catching fire flies. Cabins are also stocked with bug repellent, anti itch gel, and first aid kits. Since we are out in the country, the owner provides a selection of complimentary snacks/fruit and additional snacks and drinks that can be purchased on the honor system in each room. If you would like for your cabin to be stocked with specific types of snacks/meals/beverages, just let us know ahead of your arrival and we will have those here for you at a reasonable fee.

We are located about 50 minutes from Nashville and 15 minutes from Cordell Hull Reservoir/Defeated Creek Marina. Fisherman's paradise for Lg & Small Mouth Bass. The farm has room for the boats/trailers and a place for you to plug into. Each cabin will also have a marina pass to get you into the swimming area and boat ramp. There are many other things to do locally and still close enough to Nashville to take in the sights and sounds of music city. Each room has a list of attractions, recommended local eateries, watering holes, etc. If you need help planning a day trip just let us know in advance and we'll help you out.

We welcome you as one of our many blessings and invite you to enjoy our home and the beauty of the nature that surrounds it. We hope to share many of our crazy family stories and the opportunity to listen to yours as well. We hope you will enjoy your stay here at the BirdDog Farm and we welcome you back as often as you would like to come.
With Our Warm Regards,

Piece of Paradise

I came into town to visit my grandmother and Cabin 3 was the perfect place! It was just me so there was plenty of room, though I'm sure having my partner with me would have been fine too. The cabin was well-appointed with all that one needs to relax in the peace and quiet! I would absolutely stay here again!

Family Reunion

The 5 cabins were perfect for accommodating family members for our reunion! The cabins are beautiful! Beautifully decorated, spotless, and had everything we needed! Host was the best! Gave us a tour, explained how everything worked and left us delicious checkin cupcakes! Couldn’t have asked for a more comfortable stay.

Incredible Experience

Jo Anne and her husband was especially inviting and courtesy. Communication was top notch and she met us several miles outside of the farm to chaperone us through some tricky roadways. We felt at home. Southern hospitality is real. Thank you!

Restful and delightful

If you are looking to get away from the noise of the city...this is the place to be. The property is very well guarded and the owners are as nice as they can be. My favorite experience was nighttime. You can actually see the stars like diamonds in the sky. It is majestic!!

Home away from home

Terry and Joanne are very nice. Definitely out in the woods/mountains, deer everywhere. The bed is so comfortable i got caught up on sleep. Nice hot shower. Better than staying in a hotel and cost about the same. My dog enjoyed the bed and doggy host.

Absolutely Amazing

Tucked back in the hills of Tennessee it’s the perfect getaway! Away from the hustle and bustle of the city. A beautiful little cabin with everything you need for a nice little vacation! Reminded us of where we grew up in West Virginia. The mountains all around on a country road! Our host JoAnne was very welcoming and had a packet for us with all the local eateries and places to go and see! She even had a little bowl of fresh strawberries in the mini fridge for us to enjoy! Would definitely recommend her for a host and the cabin for a nice getaway!

Beautiful, a little piece of heaven

JoAnne and family are very welcoming. I came here for some quiet time as a traveling nurse this place is amazing. No traffic noise and fresh air to make for a very relaxing stay. I stayed in cabin three it was very clean and well arranged. Has everything that I needed And then some. On my second night it was a family birthday and I was brought a steak and all the trimmings you could want. JoAnne has been great with helping me figure out where everything is in the community. I will definitely be back!!

Relaxing and Enjoyable

Everything was perfect and it felt just like home. I've always stayed in hotels for years when traveling to Kentucky to visit my now 5 year old grandson. He now lives in Tennessee and I found this hidden gem! This place reminds me of my childhood and visiting my grandparents farm. I will never stay in a hotel again if the Kemp's have availability. I had no idea what I have been missing.

Hidden Gem in God's Country

Levi and I enjoyed our stay! Three days just was not enough to enjoy the majestic views. JoAnne certainly is a premier host! She makes herself available and goes above and beyond to make your visit perfect. The cabin exceeded my expectations. It had all the amenities of home, it was exceptionally clean, the bed was very comfortable and the cabin was decorated so lovely. Bonus: the hot water and shower pressure were excellent. Thank you JoAnne for sharing your dream with us. I've never felt this comfortable and slept so well on any other trip I've taken. I have only met JoAnne this once but it felt as though I was visiting family.

A slice of paradise!

From the moment we passed the Bird Dog Barn we new we we in for a special time and it did not disappoint! The cabins were clean and afforded us the ability to “cook” (microwave) the fixins for our smoked (on the grill) turkey! Joann surprised us with potatoes, dressing, and gravy to complete our turkey feast! The property is tucked at the head of a Tn hollow and deer, wild turkeys, and horses all complete the pristine scenery. We were all overdue for some uninterrupted sleep and the quiet of the area was perfect for getting some zzzz’s. The only missing piece is lack of a fire pit for the chilly evenings but they are working on it and our hope is our next visit it will be in place. If you are looking for a quiet, clean, ‘glamping’ experience- this is it! Thank you JoAnn and Brandon (another guest) for your hospitality, kindness, for sharing this piece of paradise!

About the host

Hosted by JoAnne Kemp

Host profile image
My husband has lived in the Nashville area all his life and was born in Nashville. Most of his very large family still live in the Nashville vicinity. ,I however, was originally from New York state and traveled a lot with my family. My family transferred to TN when I was headed off to college, so I chose the University of TN to go to school. My folks settled in Franklin, TN in the 70's and have lived there ever since. I lived in Brentwood, TN until I married and Terry and I have lived in Hendersonville, TN until we found our property in 2018. We are both quite familiar with the area an are more than happy to help plan any outings if you care to.

Why they chose this property

This property aside from its obvious beauty is very private and secluded. We have wonderful neighbors that appreciate nature and the desire to preserve it. We own the entire hollow so there is abundance of wildlife, security and solitude. We searched for over 10 years looking for just that right piece of land until we finally realized perfection did not exist. However, we believe our piece of heaven in Dixon Springs comes pretty close. From the day we stepped foot on the property as the new owners, we have worked diligently to add value to our property and the land. We have a TO DO List a mile long and will continue to improve and add value each and every year. The cabin were a shell when we purchased the property and bathrooms amounted to water lines. As any good husband knows, a happy wife makes for a happy life and Mom opted for individual bathrooms and not a bath house. I think all agreed it was the best decision. Eventually we would like to construct a nice pavilion for weddings and larger gatherings. However our next big project is renovating the barn.

What makes this property unique

The property is close to many local activities and restaurants as well as close enough to Nashville to take in the sights and sounds of Music City. If you are looking for a truly peaceful getaway where you hear absolutely no cars, except your own, no emergency vehicles, and the stars are so bright against a jet black sky, The BirdDog Farm is that place. We have all kinds of wildlife back here in the Holler as they call it in the south. Deer abound, incredible bird watching, bunnies galore, the occasional stray pony from next door will wander over, and our dogs will come down from time to time to greet you. If you are looking for a reprieve from the hustle & city bustle, come stay and get some real peace out here at the BirdDog Farm. There are so many things we love about this property but one of my favorites is the sight and sound of the wind when it sways the large trees at the top of the ridge and watching the weather fronts roll in from the high perch in the back of the property.
