About this property

Dark Sky Cabin Retreat

->Double mountain view
->Dark Skies
->Ample wildlife
->12 minutes to Goldendale
->30 minutes to the Columbia Gorge
->8 minutes to the Klickitat river

The cabin is very quiet and offers a close jump of point to a myriad of activities including whitewater rafting, scenic river floats, wineries, brewpubs, fishing, hiking, windsurfing, observatories, museums, etc.

The guest has free access to the 40 acres that the cabin is on. There is a fire pit next to the cabin, exceptional views and amazing stargazing at night.

The guest has access to both the cabins.

The big cabin has a queen bed and a large bathroom, refrigerator and a microwave .

The smaller cabin has two beds-1 single & 1 queen mattress.

The bathroom in the big cabin can be accessed from the outside.

Both cabins are trimmed in barn wood from one of the original barns of the ranch.

The two cabins are located behind the ranch house that is often rented as well so there could be people staying nearby.

Nice stay
Nice a quiet and clean. The rooms are not very big but in our case we were just crashing at night and out during the day. I would recommend and would stay again.

Peaceful and great for star gazing
VRBO says there is only a microwave, but there is also a hotplate and an air fryer. Everything is spotless, and except for an initial greeting, Jack the owner, who lives on the property, is pretty much invisible. Good cell service and internet, and reasonably close (within about 30 minutes max drive) to the Washington State Observatory, Maryhill Art Museum, and the Stonehenge replica, a memorial to soldiers who died in WW I. Don't skip the art museum. The scenery is beautiful, everything worked, and if I was forced to say something negative, it would be that the bed in the small cabin is a little uncomfortable. Highly recommended, if you like star gazing, silence, or just exploring.

Clean air, starry nights
The fields around the house were golden and pretty, and the moon was big and orange. We stayed here for a weekend - my husband, stepson and me. Everyone said it was a good night's sleep and good getaway. Easy to find and we felt safe driving at night because roads from Goldendale were level and wide We rented the two cabins behind the main house. Each cabin had a bed and wi fi. The big cabin had a queen bed with down comforter and plenty of pillows, and a bathroom with outside and inside entrance, microwave, and mini fridge. Small cabin had full and single beds and a wash sink. Both cabins had window unit AC. There was a tabletop propane grill set up on the back deck of the big house (separately rented). We didn't want to get in the way of the other guests, so we went out for dinner. The walk-in shower had ledges to sit on and a handheld showerhead. Two mornings in a row we had breakfast at the Town House Cafe - great service and food! Would stay again.

Tiny ir right!!!
We had a blast actually. We brought accommodations for meal preps as some things we not provided, but heat and eat home cooking worked well. We'd consider this property again next year for sure.

Wonderful winterland getaway
Jack was very quick to respond and made our check in easy and the cabin was nice and toasty upon our arrival. As others have mentioned, this spot has spectacular views of mt Hood and Adams! The bed was super comfy and we slept like babies (heads up for dog owners, dogs are not allowed in bed). Would def come again! Bring your own wood and you can enjoy the fire pit :)

Fantastic crashpad
Whether you're fishing, hiking, or whatever else, this is a great place to hang your hat at the end of each day. The views of Adams and Hood are gorgeous, the night sky is uninterrupted, and the cabin itself gives you everything you need. Jack was really welcoming and helpful--was great to have him available for questions.

The stars at night are big and bright...deep in the heart of Washington
This property is very scenic. Fantastic panoramic view of Mt. Hood and Adams. Excellent stargazing and wildlife viewing. The owner is very friendly and fun to talk to. The bed was comfortable. The shower was modern and had excellent flow, I stand just over 6 feet and didn't have to stoop. I definitely hope to visit again.

This is such a cute cabin. The owner was wonderful. We would definitely chose this site again.
The cabin was everything we needed for a relaxing weekend away. The communication with the owner was wonderful. Check in process was easy. The cabin had a mini-fridge with drinks already inside, a freezer and a microwave.

About the host

Host profile image
Father, Grandfather, Fly Fishing Guide, Lodge Owner - Got to enjoy the day and give back some way.

Definitely familiar with hosting people as my other job as a lodge owner is even more hands on with guests than Airbnb. I enjoy cooking and hanging out with guests when they fish with us, hiking, live music and new roads.

Aside from family love, I have a love affair with rivers, I have floated close to 200 watersheds from Tierra Del Fuego to Alaska:)

Why they chose this property

The Cabin On the Prairie is a little off the beaten path, but close enough to some amazing attractions. Though the main house is generally rented out too, there is plenty of space for everyone to enjoy a nice peaceful stay with views of Mt Hood and Mt Adams while the birds chirp and the deer roam.

What makes this property unique

This is a two cabin rental with a full bathroom, mini fridge and a microwave. There is a gas grill on premise.
