This is a unique stone house that was owed by a famed civil war bushwhacker. While the house was recently restored it still beams with old time charm. The home sleeps 12 people comfortably and has two full kitchens and two full baths. It is nestled in the middle of a 300 acre working cattle farm just minutes from restaurants, wineries, and activities. Built in 1832, the house was the childhood home of Sam Hildebrand, who was an infamous civil war guerrilla fighter. Come walk the same fields and sleep in the same place as one of Southeast Missouri’s biggest outlaws.

What a beautiful hidden gem. Our family was heading to the gulf and needed a place to relax for a night. The historic house was perfect. We wish we would have planned for more time.
Jennifer communicated very well with us when we had a hard time with the WiFi. She got it resolved quickly.
We will recommend others stay and likely stay again ourselves.
If you’re on the fence about booking this property, do it !! We had the most wonderful stay! This is a very private area out in the middle of nowhere, but also close to town, so you have that country setting but only a few minutes away if you need something. Pictures do not do this property justice, It is beautiful! And your host has literally thought of everything you could need this place was made for comfort right down to the bed ! Check-in was super easy! The place was clean and smelled great! Everyone that stayed with us said they definitely want to come back ! A great place to unplug , but they also have WiFi if you’re not into that too !
Found this great place while planning a trip to St. Joe state park. Loved how close it was to the park and how secluded it was. Lots of cool history to the house and they made sure to have enough documented stuff in there you could understand how special the place was. Will definitely be coming back

We loved this place!!! Secluded and wonderful!! We will definitely come back!! Everyone enjoyed the beautifully decorated, historical home. Jennifer was very attentive and responsive. Great people.
This property was amazing, all the small things. We really appreciated the historical items, books, articles etc that let us learn aboit where we were staying. Sitting on the porch drinking coffee, relaxing around the fire pit at night so peaceful. We made a lot of memories no doubt we will come back.
The pictures for this listing are beautiful and the cottage in person is even more stunning. There was the perfect amount of space to enjoy a very relaxed bachlorette party weekend. Everyone who came was very impressed with the property and amenities. The hosts were very responsive to any questions and checked up during the stay to ensure all was well.
I would highly recommend and look forward to going back in cooler weather to explore more around the area.
We loved every minute of our stay. We had the opportunity to visit wineries, multiple state parks, historical sites and a water park. Family meals around the large table and the porches for sunsets and stories made this vacation awesome.
We came out to go dirt bike riding at the
Local park and this house was awesome
To come back to. We played games in the yard bbq’d etc. There was plenty of space and very enjoyable! Thanks for the hospitality!
So private, pristine, beautiful and amazing! From the
great outdoor space, to huge bedrooms and deluxe bathrooms, two great kitchens, the house is the epitome of farmhouse style done right. Hosts were wonderful. The area is beautiful so 5 stars!
My son and his family from
Texas met up with my Sister and her family
from GA for a wedding celebration in nearby De Soto/Festus area. We loved EVERY aspect of this property from the beautiful view for morning coffee on the porches to the amazing shade for afternoon tea. Beds were amazing, the peaceful surroundings and quiet made rest such a blessing. We had everything we needed and would love to stay again when we r in the area. Jennifer was a great hostess and quickly responded to any questions we had.
A unique home with so much history. Our entire family, with kids of all ages, loved our stay here. Interior of home is adorable, clean and had all the amenities we needed and we loved making s’mores by the fire pit at night. Would highly recommend staying if you are in the area!
The house was really rustic with all the modern convinces very comfortable and clean.
We done a surprise birthday for a friend of ours who lives in bone terre, we had a wonderful time and the property manager was very quick to respond to questions, i would definitely tell all of my friends and or family to stay here if they find themselves in the area.
Thank you for the hospitality.
We have stayed here before and kept coming back to “We should really stay there again”. Upon arrival we were once again blown away by how beautiful and well appointed the home is. So up to date and rustic at the same time! The owners always bend over backwards to make sure our stay is perfect. Thank you for letting us call this wonderful place home for out Thanksgiving stay.
Our family just returned from the most positively perfect weekend at Hildebrand House!! Rarely have I found such a gem of a rental, and particularly for a family if varying ages and personal preferences, I was astounded that all of us were so in love with the accommodations. The beds were comfy for all (there were eight of us: six adults and two children), the house was unique and incredibly well-decorated, and the outdoor space was to die for!!! We loved every minute exploring the property. As we were leaving we were already planning a return trip some day in the future. Thank you to the hosts for providing such a serene location to unplug, connect with nature, and bond with loved ones!!

Why they chose this property
This is a very historic house in the middle of one of our farms that had fallen into disrepair. We wanted to save this treasure and allow others to enjoy the home on this peaceful piece of property.
What makes this property unique
This house is must for history buffs and outdoor enthusiasts. It is 2 miles away from the Bonne Terre mines which is known for its unique scuba diving. We are also close to many state parks and wineries.
