About this property

Eyrie House: Gorgeous panoramics sea views

Perched high in the Otways, just 5 mins from Skenes Creek beach (great surfing) and 11 mins from Apollo Bay, the Eyrie is a beautiful architect-designed split-level home overlooking the Southern Ocean, with waterfalls, walks, rainforest and views at every turn.

Hi! We are the hosts of the Eyrie. We would love to have you stay, experience our rainforest and waterfall walk, and completely relax with sunset over the Otways.

This is a very special place, so in your planning try to allow a few days to see and experience all that is here. The most common comment of previous guests is that their stay wasn't long enough (but we also understand the real world doesn't always allow for that).

So starting with the house: the Eyrie caters for up to eight guests very comfortably, but remains wonderfully cosy for just two. Every room features spectacular views, even the bathrooms!

The Eyrie is designed with two separate bedroom+bathroom areas: downstairs, two bedrooms (one with queen bed and ensuite, and one with two single beds), directly off the lounge; upstairs, two bedrooms (each with queen bed) separated by a large bathroom.

The living areas (lounge, dining, sitting, kitchen) downstairs have split system heating and air-conditioning, and your choice of open fire or efficient slow combustion stove, with a wood box metres away. There's a large lounge area with a modern flat screen internet-enabled TV and great views; an adjacent dining area with room for eight offers even better views over the Southern Ocean and coast.

The tasteful kitchen, featuring beautiful blackwood benches and doors, has all the facilities and equipment you need including microwave, electric oven, gas cook-top, full fridge/freezer, large dishwasher, toaster, etc. Next to the kitchen is a fully equipped laundry with washer and dryer.

There are two main outdoor areas: the large deck out to the sea-side has tables, chairs and that amazing view, with the land below dropping steeply away into a deep gully and then on out to the coast. The north facing spacious patio out the back, with a 6-burner BBQ/lid/side burner, picnic table and seats, gets the most sun and enjoys a protected garden setting.

The house is surrounded on all sides by lovely gardens. Plenty of parking is available.

On 27 acres, the Eyrie has a mix of rainforest and grazing land (we run some sheep here). There are many places to walk, enjoying the diverse views from the high grazing paddocks and then plunging into the forest along our forest stone pathway and viewing/absorbing our beautiful waterfall.

The Eyrie is very private. No one will disturb your stay, except perhaps the local wildlife - koalas, parakeets and rosellas, kookaburras, wallabies, and of course some resident sheep!

The Eyrie is warm in winter - a slow burner combustion heater does the job - and delightfuly cool in summer courtesy of sea breezes that flow up the valley (and of course split-system air-conditioning if required).

Despite the seclusion, you are connected (if you want!): high speed wireless broadband to all rooms, flat screen TVs, restaurants and shops 10 mins away.

Please note: we do have an external security camera in the entranceway above the dog kennel, to monitor the driveway.

Perfect Place!
We had an amazing 3 nights at Eyrie House. The views were spectacular, and everything was as described. Loved the on property walks, as did our fur babies. Andrew and Kathy were perfect hosts and very communicative with our questions prior to our stay. We will definitely visit again.

Beautiful
We had a wonderful time at Andrew’s. We always stay at places with great view and Andrew’s is one of the best (even view in the bathroom ).The sunrise is magnificent and we are in for the 7 nights we were there so we could enjoy the sunset. The place is spacious for us and our 3 teenagers who love to have their own beds.Kitchen stocked up with everything you need to cook up a storm. Nice shampoo, conditioner and body washed provided as well as dishwasher, laundry tablets. We are planning our second visit in Autumn or Winter. It would be nice to have a cup of tea/coffee by the fire while watching the sun peeks over the horizon. Thanks Andrew for sharing your place with us. We really enjoyed our stay.

Outstanding views. Pictures don’t do it justice. Greeted by a Koala low in a tree by drive. Two actually. So windy and they were very low in the trees. Comfortable and family says “spectacular” if a bit cool but weather is unpredictable.

Idyllic classic beach house with amazing views
Amazing views from every room. The hosts thought of everything we might need. Lovely little superb fairy wrens are resident on the property and jump around the garden and balcony. Conservatory shower has an amazing view over the ocean. Beautiful waterfall as well. We had a wonderful holiday.

Most stunning property
We went away with my family to celebrate my dads birthday and had the most incredible time at this accomodation. The 360 degree views are unbeatable - there is so much serenity & the fire places are just so cosy. We all agreed to make this house an annual tradition, if possible! Thank you :)

Nice view but very very rustic
The view is accurate and beautiful. It’s very private and quiet which we loved and close enough to Apollo Bay for food options. However, this house is more rustic than we thought. Window screens were torn, rusty, and dirty. Climate control is a challenge. If it’s cold you have to use portable heaters or a wood stove. Internet was abysmal (3mps the whole time). Our cell coverage was faster. Property manager was slow to respond and never tried to fix the problem. This sounds trivial but after a long day you like to unwind and watch something. Low bandwidth made this a challenge and frustrating. We didn’t realize how old and outdated the house was going to be. Beware that the road up to the house is very windy and the road into the house is a very bumpy dirt road. Anyone with motion sickness problems will find this troublesome as we did. So if you plan to go out to the 12 Apostles and other sites (which are also windy roads) you may want to do it in one day to avoid the long winding drive multiple times.

Truly an eyrie!
The property was delightful - everything that was promised on line. Views amazing. Everything one needed n the kitchen, the beds were very comfortable and with four of us each bedroom gave us space and more. The dog run was a wonderful addition and was much enjoyed by our dog and by us! A wonderful experience all round and we would happily return. Thank you Andrew.

Peaceful retreat
This property was just as advertised. It warm and cosy for my arrival, having been heated ahead of time for me. I had a lot of trouble keeping a fire going due to the dampness of the wood, but managed to enjoy it for a brief time. Aside from that, the property is just amazing. The walk was an adventure, and definitely requires a solid footing and balance, with very good boots (which luckily I had!). I was also spoiled with a koala sighting which was the highlight of the trip. Many thanks for sharing your beautiful property.

An Eagle's dream home
This Eyrie surveys the always changing, vast southern ocean from high across a deep, forested valley. Your view is awe-inspiring, uninterrupted from the huge windows in every room over three levels. But you're watching in luxurious comfort, from a beautifully open-planned and furnished house, light and airy when it's sunny, warm and cosy when it's not. A perfect perch for a very peaceful, private holiday. Our only problem? We didn't bring binoculars to watch the superb swell of the ocean to the horizon and the tiny birds in the garden below - and yes, an eagle. But everything else we needed was thoughtfully provided, and hosting by Andrew was impeccable.

This place is spectacular.
This is one of the best stays (stayz) we have ever been to. Incredible. The house is sprawling. Often the views can disappoint on arrival, but the vista of the rolling hills, the sea sitting in the middle distance, Apollo Bay in the far distance was beyond expectations. Pretty breathtaking stuff. Andrew (while unseen) was a super caring host. His instructions were precise, and on point. The kitchen was impressively well appointed and brimmed with utensils. The dishwasher was brilliant, as was the fridge. Amazingly, the TV had Netflix, Disney+, Spotify subscriptions all in place (and more). It is difficult to recommend this place too highly (though please do not book during the times when we intend to return).

Halfway To Heaven
From the moment we walked in the front door we were awestruck by the magnificence of this property. Perched over four levels, it has commanding, 180 degree views over the southern ocean and surrounding bushland with the lights of Apollo Bay twinkling in the distant night sky. We sat in the dark with the slow combustion heater burning and imbibed the ambience. The house offers 3 double bedrooms (all with incredible views) and can also accommodate a couple of other people (probably children) as the fourth bedroom has single beds and is the access point to the master. Both bathrooms have incredible views but we all had to try the fernery shower at least once (sometimes watched on by the resident wrens and king parrots) but otherwise very private! The house is clean, well appointed and has plenty of seating options. We arrived with our supplies for the first 24 hours knowing we wouldn’t want to venture back to Apollo Bay to shop and enabling us to settle in and enjoy our couple of days at The Eyrie. We were very happy with our choice.

Peaceful and secluded. Loved it!
There are amazing views from every room in the house with peaceful and tranquil surrounds. The house was cozy and comfortable, with different zones allowing people to spread out. Good coffee is provided. The walk around the property was a highlight. I regret not doing it at the start of our stay because after I saw what was there I would've loved to spend more time at certain spots. I normally like to try different accommodation but I want to come back just to spend more time there. I don't want to add more detail than what's already in the listing because you just have to experience it for yourself. Unfortunately we couldn't quite figure out how to get the wood stove burning for a long time but that's because we've never used a wood stove before. Luckily the weather wasn't so cold but if you do go in the middle of winter keep in mind that you would need to know how to light a wood burner stove or a regular fireplace (the house has both). Everything you need to light the fires is provided.
