Dara’s Beach House

You’ll enjoy both peace and quiet and loads of fun for the kids in this beautiful, updated family home south of Rockaway Beach near Camp Magruder. With three bedrooms and two full futons in the living room, you can invite friends and family to join you for a truly relaxing stay at the beach. Situated in a secluded neighborhood a short walk to a private neighborhood beach access, Dara’s Beach House has a wonderful elevated deck, with a barbecue and table for dining, and a hot tub for soaking under the stars.

Inside, you’ll find fresh décor, soothing lines and contemporary finishes. The spacious living room has a plush modern sectional for gathering to lounge in the living room, large windows, and a flat-screen TV. Enjoy a convivial meal in the dining room next to floor-to-ceiling windows that bring in plenty of coastal light. There’s extra seating at the breakfast bar of the fully equipped gallery kitchen. All three of the serene bedrooms are located upstairs, one with a bunk bed to delight the kids.

When you’re ready to venture out in the car, you’ll find Rockaway Beach and its fun shopping and dining close by; you’ll want to ride the steam train of the Oregon Coast Scenic Railroad from there to Garibaldi and back. Drive south to enjoy ice cream at the Tillamook Creamery or north to the beaches, hiking and wonderful coastal towns of the North Coast. You’ll be glad to return in the evening for a long walk on the beach, dinner on the grill and a relaxing soak in your hot tub at the end of a day of coastal adventure!

All cleaning policies meet or exceed CDC standards and recommendations. Our team wears new masks, gloves and shoes covers each time they enter home to prepare it for a new stay. We clean and disinfect all hard surfaces and high-touch items such as appliance handles, light switches, door knobs, remote controls, etc. We also clean and disinfect all dishes/glassware, silverware, bedding, towels and other linens as well as tubs and toilets. Meredith Lodging has added the extra measure of a pre-check-in inspection to make sure all of our cleaning and disinfecting procedures are complete and to our standard before you arrive.

Once it passes inspection, your home sits empty until you arrive for your contact-free check-in. Additionally, if your home features a private hot tub, rest assured it is disinfected, treated and cleaned thoroughly after each departure so that you and your guests can enjoy it with peace of mind during your stay.

Overall a good place but be warned of the carpet

The home was located on a nice quiet street, near private beach access, and was overall a good place. I really wish I had known how much smell and pet stains were in the master bedroom in particular. I fully know allowing pets is a luxury for us pet owners but I was not expecting how badly the carpet looked and what was worse, the urine smell. I read through the reviews ahead of time and they were overall very positive so I was pretty surprised by the condition of the carpet. If seemingly unclean and smelly carpet with pet stains is very bothersome to you, I highly suggest looking elsewhere unfortunately. This is the first time I've been very disappointed with this issue so please know I am not just writing to complain. I want to warn another potential guest in case this helps them decide. And maybe my standards for the carpet in a pet friendly VRBO home are unrealistic. Going forward I will be much more careful when booking a pet friendly home. I am the type of owner who doesn't allow my pets on the bed or furniture and works really hard to take care of the place we're staying in. Lastly, minor inconveniences... -the dishwasher was not working for us so we just washed dishes by hand as a heads up (this happened before the power outage during our stay). -the kitchen trashcan could be the larger size to match the size of the trash bags. -more candles or flashlights with extra batteries could be provided for future power outages, especially for the winter months.

Beach House review

Great house and location. Unfortunately, hot tub was 83 degrees upon our arrival and took so long to warm up we did not get to enjoy until the following day. Also, dishwasher did not run and when we asked for someone to come fix it, we were told that someone would come, but no one ever did. Also, our welcome email had the incorrect information regarding the WiFi access. The house was comfortable and close to the beach.

Great if the internet would have worked.

Everything about the place was good except for the fact that I could not get Internet. That was a big issue! I was not able to get any work done during my entire stay. I tried to tether to my phone, but the reception was not good in the area so I was dependent on Wi-Fi but it was not set up. I spent three days communicating with Meredith about the problem and they were seemingly trying to resolve it, but they finally learned that the owner of the property decided to change Internet providers without letting anybody know. I would absolutely never stay at a property owned by this person again based on his complete disregard for his guests. Meredith gave me a 5% refund and a credit that I could use with them within one year that equal about 15% of the cost. I appreciate the gesture, but I will most likely not be able to use the credit within the one year period before expiration. it would have been more appropriate to give me more of a cash refund that came straight from the property owners profit.

Nice house

Nice house, the kids loved the hot tub. The only downfall was the tv’s didn’t work, the internet wasn’t working the whole time. They said they would send someone and no one ever came to fix it. The garbage was full the whole week we were there so we were unable to throw garbage away without the lid being open.

Great neighborhood, internet service canceled???

So, I will share facts and you can take the gamble. 2 hour delay to check in due to an emergency. No problem as I understand stuff happens. Got there at 6, they were still cleaning. Done by 6:20. They did a good job, no complaints. The house does have older bits to it, honestly it looks like it is in the middle of a redecorate, empty curtain rods, old vertical blinds but the house was clean, nice open floor plan and it meet our needs in that arena. But, here’s the unpredictability. We walked in to find a box that said - no internet or cable. In the box was all the bits to make internet magic. I booked this place because it had WiFi but this is false. The management company was confused because they saw everything was setup a week before. Apparently, the owner decided to cancel the service….. I’m not interested in stepping into someone else’s drama with the cable company but here I am. There is no WiFi or tv. There are dvd players but no dvds. This was inconvenient and honestly I felt the fool as I would not have booked this house due to this.( I needed to get a few tasks done for work and clearly I did not which again puts ME in a bad light. Not considerate and faulty advertisement) Now, the management company where very nice to deal with. I would not let this review sway you away from their properties. I would just put this property as a gamble. The location is in a nice neighborhood. Private beach access, nice quiet beach. That part was lovely.

Our second and last stay - great beach, marginal house, poor service

The location and neighborhood is great. Easy walking to an uncrowded beach - we love that part. We stayed at this house last fall and were satisfied, however upon this stay we paid a very high price due to the summer months, and it fell far short. 3 hours before check in, I received an email from the management company saying that they needed to push back our check in to 6pm (from 4pm). This was inconvenient as we had little notice and have small children who need a schedule. When I asked for a discount they insisted they could not, after going back and forth several times they offered a free night for a future stay but have not actually provided any proof that we will receive it. The house itself would benefit from a small amount of maintenance. There are handles falling off things, towel bars falling down, broken shower handle, etc. The dishwasher door is about to break off. Linens were worn - one of the duvets had a gigantic hole (6"x3") in plain site upon check in. The house only has a couch and one chair in the living room, not enough seating for the sleeping headcount. Lots of stains on the furniture and carpet. The house was well cleaned but needs upgrading - especially to justify the high nightly rate for what you get.

So bad we left after 4 hours

The house wreaked of animal urine. We got there late in the evening. Minutes upon arrival, our 12 year old stepped in urine soaked in the carpet in the living room. Not long after, our 16 year old stepped in another urine spot in an upstairs bedroom. There are massive stains in the carpet in every bedroom. Carpet going upstairs is ridiculously dirty. Baseboards upstairs are lined with a black filth everywhere; you can see hair/dust built up. Chair in one of the bedrooms has a clear stain where it looks like a dog urinated on it. Dressers and cupboards are littered with cup stains and defects. Heat vents have grey buildup. Range had visible grease on the surface. The blinds are in bad shape and above the kitchen sink are riddled with food stains. Don't forget to check out the yellow duct tape securing the rug in the living room. We wanted to stay because we were tired but ultimately decided we would be violating ourselves staying in such conditions. We have rented more dated pet friendly homes in the past but they were clean. Leaving the house at 2am after a long trip in was less than ideal but concluded cleanliness/comfort would not be there if we stayed. There's no way this house is cleaned to VRBO policy after every stay. We contacted Meredith properties that night and they offered to send someone to clean the next day. No one can make a urine stench go away in one visit and carpets needed to be professionally cleaned. Anyone with pride would have already ripped out and replaced knowing guests are staying. We told management group we expect a full refund. Funny thing is they stated "due to conditions they could not get there to evaluate right away" yet they could send someone to clean the next morning. They offered two of our three nights refunded and is planning on keeping total cleaning fee. If this isn't resolved immediately we will no longer use the VRBO/Home Away platforms. It clearly seems everything is in the homeowner/VRBO's favor when in dispute. Our past business between my husband's account and mine is a lot for one family. If I have to go through investor relation channels to get someone at Expedia (who owns VRBO) to discuss I will. This is the first negative review we have left on any rental. Will make sure we avoid Meredith Properties. We took plenty of pictures as well as a 10 minute video of the filth in all rooms. We don't stay in dirty urine stench homes and neither should you. Don't book!!!

Great location with a short walk down to the beach- which was never crowded! We loved the hot tub, and smart tv had all the apps for my partner and I to enjoy a relaxing few days at the beach.

Great Location, Bad Beds!

Location was fabulous for beach access and fishing/crabbing! House was very clean even though it was a bit banged up, had outdated/worn furniture, and no chairs for deck seating. But the most disappointing thing by far were the beds & foam pillows! Mattress’s were hard as rocks and the foam pillows were filled with golf ball sized chunks of foam. Latex foam toppers, new pillows, and another fan for the third bedroom upstairs would greatly improve this rental. I thought the fees were high for this place and hot tub use should not have been an additional $60.

Could be better

The house was fine. GPS took us to the other end of the U road the house is on--the numbering is weird. There was only one key to the house. There were no washcloths, a pet peeve of mine. Dishware were sets of 10, so we had to run the dishwasher twice daily. There was no patio furniture for the sizable back patio. The lighter for the grill didn't work but one of us had matches. On the plus side the walk to the beach is brief and the beach is lovely!

Needs some love

Location is awesome but the property and furnishings need some upgrades. Beds and pillow are not comfortable. Pots and pans need to be replaced minus the stainless steel ones. The stove door doesn’t completely open because drawer is broken. Kitchen cabinet doors do not shut completely, and the refrigerator is very dated- there is a nicer one in the garage.

Great location

Great location. Easy access to the beach. Neighborhood is very quiet. Great food around. The beds are very comfortable. The only down side is refrigerator, outside looks bad, the paint is peeling, also one of the shelf has a crack. I would definitely stay in the house again and would recommend this house to my family and friends.

Great beach house

We really enjoyed our stay here. Great location with a two-minute walk to the beach. Hot tub was fabulous. Kitchen was well-stocked with equipment, but could have used some basic essential ingredients (oil, salt, pepper). Lost hot water for a few hours but maintenance was quick to respond and came over to fix it right away. Very comfy and cozy stay. Would come back for another visit!

Beautiful vacation home

Our stay was wonderful! The house was was roomy, clean, well equipped with everything to make you comfortable during your stay. The privacy of the neighborhood and beach with easy access was a 5 star plus. Even the neighbors were extremely friendly. We will definitely be saving this rental to our favorites list for future vacations in Rockaway.

The location is wonderful and it would have been a wonderful vacation unfortunately after one night we had to leave because the refrigerator broke down and our food spoiled. Other reasons for leaving early is that their description of the property does not match the amenities listed. The description said: Home is kid-friendly with many kid amenities such as pack-n-play, high chair, baby gate, toys and books. I inquired about the pack-n-play not long after arrival and did not hear back until the next morning; after my 3 month old had to sleep on the floor. “Did you put in a special request for one?” Don’t state the availability of a item and then say it’s only available upon request, or maybe be honest and include “only available upon request “ on your description/amenities list. Not one person in my party of people slept well the one night we stayed. Please reimburse me for the remainder of our rental. Still waiting for a response.

Awesome place

We really loved our time here - the location is perfect, it was quiet, the style of the house was lovely. Our kids kept asking if we could just move in! It was a great stay!
