About this property

Secluded Log Cabin with Hot Tub in Skeena River Valley, British Columbia, Canada

Secluded in the forests of the Skeena River Valley and overlooked by British Columbia's coast mountains, this log cabin rental is a short scenic drive from Terrace or Smithers. It's also only 3 hours drive from Prince Rupert, making it an ideal place to stay before or after a cruise through BC's Inside Passage.

Scribed from locally-grown cedar, the cabin is completely private. The 15 acres around the cabin are dedicated to the exclusive enjoyment of our guests. There are no other cabins or structures in sight.

In this magical setting, guests can prepare meals in the fully-equipped kitchen or on the outdoor BBQ, and enjoy dining indoors or out. The oversize armchairs and loveseat in the living room are the perfect place to take in the view, or curl up by the glass-paned wood-fire.

For those who enjoy soaking under the stars, there is the option of an outdoor, wood-fired hot tub (subject to availability). 48 hours notice is required to arrange for its use. With each new set of guests, the hot tub is cleaned and re-filled with fresh, mountain stream water – no chemicals are added. The fee is $75/night, collected on-site at the time of your stay.

This wilderness oasis has a full bathroom, complete with a claw-foot bathtub/shower, and of course, hot running water. Linens and towels are provided.

Upstairs, there are two queen-size beds in the main room and a single bed in a small (connected) side room. The main room also has a television, DVD player and sound system.

Behind the cabin is the creek that powers the micro-hydro. There is cell service at the cabin (for users of the Telus, Bell, and Rogers networks). For guests who prefer to turn off their phones, there is an intercom that will connect you with your hosts at any time of the day or night, should you need assistance.

For those with a taste for adventure, the cabin is the perfect base for a wide range of outdoor activities. Hike the Kitwanga Mountain trail or the trails in Seven Sisters Provincial Park, go mountain biking on old logging roads, or enjoy fishing at local creeks and lakes.

A wonderful, absolutely stunning and heartwarming place
Our heart goes out in congratulating the couple who owns and rents out this place. The cabin/lodge is absolutely stunning. Everything is beautiful. There are so many loving touches that are added in all rooms. Flowers here, dried flowers there, beautiful quilts on the beds, beautiful log walls, everything so big, genuine, so nicely done. All the kitchen things you'd hope to be there, ARE there. Tea, coffee, spices, towels, kitchen tools, everything! There is hot water, a fridge, a stove, a fireplace, and and and! We highly recommend getting the outdoor, wood-fired hot tub. You look out at the mountains, and the bushes, at the sky. Our heart trembled, it was so beautiful. Thank you so much! Thank you ever so much. This is a great and inspirational place. We have actually travelled quite a lot. But a place like this, with all of this incredible love for the smallest details and for the grand beauty of the place, we have never seen. Last but not least, the hosts are there a few minutes after you arrive, they show you around, they explain things, and make you feel most welcome. And then they leave, so you can enjoy their incredible place on your own. Most beautiful! Thank you! Victoria and Paul

One of the best ever
Hard to describe how special this place is. Fruit trees and bushes, wildlife and an outdoor hot tub, plus with everything you expect. Anne and Steve were very gracious hosts every step of the way and made us feel right at home. The only sad part was having to leave. Would recommend to anyone.

Explorers
The property is in a beautiful setting. We were met by the owners and a fresh loaf of bread and a warm fire. The cabin is very comfortable and has everything you need for a comfortable stay. The owners were very responsive to any communication and we only wished we were staying longer.

About the host

Host profile image
My husband and I have made our home in Canada’s north for many years. We are passionate about living “off-grid,” which includes generating our own power (using micro-hydro) and growing much of our own food. We know what a transformative experience it is to escape to a wilderness setting – but we also appreciate modern comforts and amenities! This led us to painstakingly transform a full-scribe cedar log cabin on our property into the exceptional guest house known as Skeena Cabin. Here guests can experience nature in the comfort of a beautifully finished, traditional log cabin, complete with sustainably-generated power and hot running water.

Why they chose this property

This property is the perfect marriage of seclusion and accessibility. It is well off the beaten path, but within 20 minutes of the town of Kitwanga, 90 minutes drive from Terrace, an hour and 45 minutes drive from Smithers, and 3 hours drive from Prince Rupert. The mountain creek that runs behind the cabin makes it possible for us to generate sustainable power, so that we can provide our guests with modern amenities in a natural and rustic setting.

What makes this property unique

You don’t have to know anything about wilderness survival skills to enjoy this cabin! We show our guests how to light the fireplace, we fully service the hot tub for those who want a soak under the stars (fees apply), and while you cannot see our house from the cabin, we are only an intercom call away if you need any assistance, day or night. For guests who need to “stay connected,” there is a booster that provides good cell signal for those on the Bell or Telus networks.
