Or, curl up on a sofa or the outdoor hammock with a book to take in the mesmerizing views and relax.
Located on a sunny perch just above the historic town of Inverness you can look forward to comfortably modern bed-bath accommodations, a fully equipped gourmet kitchen, and indoor lounge space with a strong indoor-outdoor connection to the surrounding natural environment. The large property has picnic areas, trails through a native garden, fern groves, and towering pine and bay forests.
A place for seekers, visionary creatives and romantics. A place where everyone can find what they seek, from romantic haven to group retreat to solitary reflection. The space is designed to enhance connections with self, others, and nature.
Whether you are staying for a weekend escape or a full week of relaxation and exploration of the local sites and flavors, this tranquil eco-friendly home is perfect for personal retreats, couples looking for a romantic getaway, as well as for families and friends looking for a comfortable, well-designed, and well-equipped home.

The Home:
Inspired by the surrounding environment and historic agricultural landscape, the coastal home was designed and built in 1977 and renovated in 2007 by renowned local architect Jon Fernandez (the architect of the iconic Point Reyes Cowgirl Creamery/Tomales Bay Foods building).
The redwood siding and sharp-angled walls architecturally create an abstract impression of an agricultural barn. The rustic yet modern design continues past the front door. Inside, airy simplicity is combined with warm redwood finishes and picture windows to enhance your indoor-outdoor living experience.
Since you might spend some of your time engaging with the great outdoors, once you enter the home you will find a space to store your coats, backpacks, and gear that you use to explore the surrounding park and beaches.
Are you or someone in your group a cook? You will find a fully equipped gourmet kitchen that is functional and modern. There are ample wine, champagne and water glasses and you’ll eat from artistic vintage earthenware. There are two Thermador ovens, a gas range and dishwasher. Custom cherry-wood cabinetry provides a warm and luxurious feel, while the black granite countertops and island reflect the granite outcrop on which the home is perched. The raised wood table in the breakfast nook is an ideal spot for morning coffee with a long and reflective view up Tomales bay toward hog island.
The dining room sits between the kitchen and great room, surrounded by custom shelving that house original owner-created ceramic bowls and platters from which to serve your meals.
The long sofa and day-bed inside a picture window in the great room invites guests to curl up with a book and take in the spellbinding bay, agricultural and parkland views. There is ample seating to gaze at the landscape and bird watch through rows of expansive windows.
Indoors, you will be extremely comfortable.
The bedrooms are clean and comfortable, with views of the bay’s blue water and surrounding green mountains from every bed. Providing for maximum privacy, each bedroom, bathroom and balcony are on separate levels of the home. And both Master bedrooms have bathrooms with a soaking tub and shower. The downstairs bathroom includes a soaking tub with glassed walled views of the bay and surrounding landscape. Coastal birds will soar by as you settle into the warmth of the shower and bath.
The downstairs master bedroom has a sitting area to enjoy a book or to work in privacy. The upstairs master bedroom is clean and sparse with a comfy, pillowed bed and two end-tables. The third bedroom room has the added dramatic yet warm feeling from an angled floor to ceiling redwood lined wall. Magnificent views of the bay and coastal hills are artistically framed through the windows. This main-floor room has access to a modern bathroom with a marbled walk-in shower. This room doubles as a cozy entertainment room with a flat screen TV on a pivotal arm and a closet filled with board games.
On every level, the home opens onto outdoor decks and large balconies. Metal fencing on the kitchen and master bedroom balconies extends the modern feel, while allowing maximum light, safety, and extended views.
The outdoor garden, landscaped with native plants, leads to trails under aromatic bay and towering pine forests throughout the property. A large blue-stone patio with Adirondack chairs, a picnic table, hammock, and BBQ is nestled into a natural small amphitheater-like setting overlooking the historic town of Inverness, the blue water of Tomales bay, and natural landscapes. A scenic perch, enveloped in nature, designed to enhance connections with self, others and nature.
A thoroughly comfortable and scenic escape in nature. A place to relax and refresh all of your senses.
Additional Information to Note:
For guests with mobility issues: There is a small step leading to the front door of the home. There are not any stairs on the main level of the home (which includes the kitchen, dining room, living room, a balcony, as well as a bedroom/media room and one bathroom with a walk-in shower). If a traveler has mobility issues, please contact Rachel, the owner, so she can inform you of the household amenities that may be of assistance to you and your guests.
Child-Friendly, but not Childproof: There are two sets of stairs in the home (without gates). In addition, there are many breakable artistic pieces (including art that is begins at the baseboard and there is a lot of pottery throughout the home). If you are considering bringing an infant and/or toddler, please contact Rachel, the owner, to discuss the safety of your child prior to your stay.
Camera: For security purposes there is a camera outside of the property. It’s above the carport looking up the driveway. There are no other cameras on the property nor anywhere inside the home. About the host
Hosted by Rachel Taylor
Like you, my husband (Jess) and I (Rachel) enjoy traveling in cities and in natural environments, and creating time to connect with family, friends, and new people along the journey.
We believe that there are experiences in life that are too good to not be shared: a good meal, a sacred space, a home in which to relax. In that spirit, we open our unique homes and their offerings for you to enjoy.
When traveling, at times we find that our only interaction with locals are with the people whoses homes we are staying and at the restaurants we are eating. These ambassordors of place enhance the travel experience. With that in mind, we strive to be ambassadors for you of the places we know and love: San Francisco and the Point Reyes National Seashore.
Bay Area natives, we live in San Francisco and worked as environmental, public art, and tech professionals. We have been playing in SF urban parks and Point Reyes National Seashore since childhood. Jess is a potter (his studio is on the property in Inverness) and has created all of the pottery in our homes.
When we are not in California, we can be found studying and exploring ancient sites and cultures in Greece and Italy.
We love to learn from and share discoveries with others and look forward to sharing a place we love with you.
