We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Nelson Coastal Barnstay. The cottage is charming, well furnished and comfortable, with amazing views of the property and mountains. Jenny welcomed us and checked in during the stay to ensure we had everything we needed. We enjoyed feedingDudley the pig and the alpacas. the
Stunning property, with Stunning views in a stunning location, complete with on site resident Llamas & Dudley the Pig. Lovely host Jenny made us feel most welcome. We came over for a winter break from the North Island and the Cottage was welcoming, private, warm and cozy. This place hit all the right spots for us. Whatever the weather, or time of year there would always be something to do.

About the host
Hosted by Nelson Coastal Barnstay
We are Tony and Jenny and we are originally from the north of England many years ago. We consider ourselves exceptionally lucky to have found such an amazing property here on the Ruby Coast and love to share it with guests. We get great pleasure out of seeing our guests enjoy the cottage and local activities. We especially love to see children, who are often shy at first, grow in confidence in feeding the animals and helping to collect the eggs.
Why they chose this property
This property ticked all the boxes, within 35 mins of the airport, peaceful but not remote, close to amenities, vineyards, restaurants and artisan outlets but above all the scenery is amazing and in close proximity to the Abel Tasman National Park (40 min away) The area is beautiful, not too cold in winter and lots of sunshine. There are amazing views of the mountains and sunsets from the cottage and lovely seas views and a great walking beach are only a short walk away. This is the place for an extended stay where you can start to explore all the top of the south island has to offer, including two further national parks, Kahurangi and Nelson lakes, in addition to ample activities for active relaxers; kayaking, canyoning, tramping, sailing, skydiving etc.
What makes this property unique
The cottage is a converted barn and is charming and rustic but has all you need for a great stay, including an old outdoor bath with running hot water should you want to bathe outdoors, ideal for stargazers. Our pig and alpaca are always popular with guests of all ages.
