About this property

Intimate, earthy cottage in Tranquil Setting

A gorgeous, private, cottage, filled with plants and natural light, located in the foothills of the village of Woodbridge on the D'Entrecasteaux Channel.
The cottage is oriented away from the main house.

Unique in its design and construction featuring a beautiful cordwood feature wall (you'll understand why we call it the Giraffe House) and beautifully hand-crafted alternate tread stairs.

There is a cosy queensize bed on the mezzanine with fantastic southerly sky views. You may be lucky enough to capture the Southern lights Aurora Australis.

Relax in the lounge and be warmed by the radiant heat from the woodstove. The well-equipped kitchen, providing essential pantry items, has a gas cooktop, microwave/oven, and fridge.

The kitchen dining area looks west to the Woodbridge Hill, a comfy couch allows for basking in the afternoon winter son whilst watching the abundant bird and wildlife.

The bathroom has a walk-in shower and composting toilet. There is a small office area.

The Giraffe House provides a perfect intimate base to spend a peaceful weekend or week away exploring Southern Tasmania's Coal River Valley, the Tasman Peninsula, Huon Valley, Channel and Bruny Island or simply relaxing on the veranda watching the birds whilst the sun sets over the mountain.

There are many great local attractions, vineyards, restaurants, & outdoor activities within easy access. The Giraffe House was built in 1985 and has had several makeovers most recently during the Winter of 2018.

It is only a short walk to the foreshore where you will find all manner of marine life and sea birds. Grab one of our kayaks (fee applies) and paddle around to wreck in Little Peppermint Bay. Come for a sail on on Channel (www.sailingtasmania.com.au)

Peaceful, Great location.
Biodynamic farm cottage. No TV, a very quiet and quaint cottage, perfect for an extended stay. Self contained and relaxing, close to Hobart and the southern towns.

Nice overnight stay
The accommodation is opposite the main house but is private and overlooks the dam. We enjoyed watching the chickens and paddymelons. There didn't seem to be anywhere to walk or explore the property, but we weren't there long enough to ask. The accommodation itself is lovely - very comfortable bed and kitchen with everything you need. It was a very nice place to stay overnight before heading to Bruny.

Cabin Getaway
A chandelier of stars above a peaceful getaway cabin. Identical to the photos presented, located on a beautiful piece of land tucked away from the city. Chrissie and Micheal were a delight to communicate with who went above and beyond to make sure we felt welcome.

I left after one night.
The listing was not accurate. Wifi wasn't available as stated in the listing. Host was argumentative about it being "promoted as a place without wifi." VRBO refunded me because they confirmed it was advertised with WiFi. I was given a wifi code (presumably to their house wifi), but the wifi did not connect or work. This listing is a tiny house build next to a regular home. Privacy is minimal. Additionally, the silverware tray was full of dirty water at check-in. I did not trust the rest of the home was very clean .. intended to stay 4 nights left after 1. Host made me very uncomfortable. I cannot recommend this stay.

Mr
We had a really wonderful time during our stay and playing with the chickens. Christine and Michael are very warm and accommodating. The sky at night is so beautiful and the window slit by the bed made it even better to snuggle up and stargaze. The house is really clean, cozy and homey. Will try our best to come back again just for the vibe. 12/10.

About the host

Host profile image
A very comprehensive bio-dynamic vegetable garden which has evolved (in 25 years) from a blackberry infested paddock with a house and shed and one sapling gum tree. The host's Italian heritage on her father’s side and her Mother’s love of herbs and flowers instilled in her a connection with the earth and gardening at a young age. Her study of homeopathy and interest in Rudolf Steiner’s writings on agriculture sparked her interest in herbs and their culinary and medicinal use as well as in maintaining the garden using biodynamic principles.
