About this property

Classic Lakeside Log Cabin with Panoramic Views ... Fish, Swim, Relax!

The charm, comfort, and beautiful setting of our vintage Northwoods log cabin will make your cares melt away. Our cabin sits so close to the water, you'll feel like you're floating on stunning Lake Wabedo. Inside the home, you're treated to comfortable furnishings, a well-appointed kitchen, and amazing views of the lake from nearly every room in the house; outside, you're literally steps away from swimming, paddling, and world-class fishing

What will you do with your day? Watch the sky turn early-morning pink over the lake without even leaving your bed. Enjoy your coffee from the lakeside deck in the company of the many birds that visit our feeders. Perhaps you'll head out in the canoe to visit Fish Island, or explore the winding channel that connects Lake Wabedo to Little Boy Lake. Bring or rent a boat and fish the waters of them both, nearly 2,600 acres total, and reel in everything from panfish to walleye to trophy-sized muskie (of course, fishing's not bad from our dock either). Enjoy a cool drink and watch the kids swim off the dock.. In the evening, take in the sunset from the deck and listen to the ghostly call of the loons.

Should the weather be inclement, no worries--our cabin has a spacious open floor plan, and everything in it has been carefully chosen with comfort and relaxation in mind. There's plenty of comfortable seating for everyone to hang out and watch a movie, play a game, or just enjoy the company of good friends and family.

Feel the need to get out? Visit one of many charming nearby towns, including Longville, just a few miles away and home to world-famous turtle races! Play some putt-putt at Birdie's in Longville. Try your luck at the Northern Lights Casino in Walker. Hike or bike the many local trails, and visit Deep Portage Conservation Reserve for a variety of outdoor activities and classes.

Whatever you choose, the backdrop for it all is the calling loons, towering pines, and lapping waters of Lake Wabedo. You will leave feeling rested, rejuvenated . . . and eager to come back

Sister Time
It was a perfect visit. We booked the cabin for 4 weeks. My sister and I have a lot of family memories up in the area, and we found the cabin to be a sanctuary we needed to relax, enjoy the woods, the solitude, the beauty of fall and the sunsets. Kirk and Shannon, the hosts have done an amazing job of making the cabin cozy and welcoming. In addition, it was very well stocked with whatever spices, staples, condiments that would be needed, and pretty much anything else that might be needed for a relaxing stay in the north woods. I very highly recommend staying at this cabin, and we will definitely be rebooking for next year.

Wabedo Escape
This was the 4th time i have stayed in this cabin and I feel lucky to have randomly found the property on VRBO a few years ago. It has everything you need for a great northwoods experience. Great old school cabin with wonderful views of the lake. Nice back deck overlooking the lake. Awesome fire pit. I have had great fishing everytime I have been to Wabedo Lake. Kids can catch pan fish off the dock all day long . The neighbors are friendly and might share some fishing tips with you. There are kayaks and a canoe that we used as well. It is a fun paddle to Little Boy Lake. The channel connecting to Little Boy is like an aquarium and the bird watching is great . Kirk, the host, goes above and beyond responding to questions. I plan on coming back again next summer.

Nostalgic and wonderful
This cabin is cozy and fully equipped. Simple, full of vintage pieces, but set up for a single or a group. This was my fourth visit and I am NEVER disappointed.

Peaceful retreat
The Wabedo Cabin is a quaint, historic cabin. The location is very peaceful and serene. The deck overlooking the lake was a beautiful spot to sit, relax, and read a book. The lake was quiet, not much boat traffic. We, unfortunately, had some boat motor issues so weren't able to do much fishing but heard great things about the fishing on Wabedo Lake. The neighbors are close but are very friendly and not intrusive at all. They offered assistance with our boat motor and kept an eye out for us to make sure we got back safely to the dock! When first arriving, it's hard to determine where the cabin is. The house numbers are a bit out of order and you don't realize there's a dirt frontage road you need to take to reach the cabin. Google Maps tells you that you have arrived, but you have to turn into what looks like someone's driveway and drive down the frontage road to reach the cabin. The driveway and parking are a bit of a challenge. The driveway is a bit steep with a turn and there's not much space in the yard to turn around when leaving. Backing down and out the driveway is not an option, unless you want to back down the frontage road to the main road. Parking would be a tight fit with 2 or more vehicles. To us, this was the only real "issue" with the cabin. If you're looking for somewhere sleek and modern, this isn't the place to choose. But, if you are looking for a quiet place with charm and character to relax and recharge, this is it.

The property was great! The family and I had a nice time there and can’t wait to come back again. Fishing off the dock was excellent, everyone caught something. It was also close to town for any needed supplies but the house was stocked nicely.

Fall, fishing trip
This cabin was great. Nice location on lake and view. Kitchen and pantry was well stocked. we really enjoyed all of the rustic features. The only issue we had was pulling the boat and trailer onto the property. I have an 18 foot bass style boat and it took me forever to turn it around. I wouldn’t suggest a 21 footer.

Minnesota Lake Memories
Our stay at Wabedo Cabin was a gift in time we felt had long passed us. Aging can present hurdles that impede travel, and we were sure our travels to Minnesota were behind us. The chance moment presented, and we grasped it to return one more time to the quaint, period cabin nestled on the lake. Kirk is a fabulous host, and his love of the cabin is evident in all the details noted throughout to assure to the comfort and needs of his guests. Our stay was an opportunity to recall the joy of a lifetime of Minnesota lake memories while making new during this most recent stay. Wabedo Cabin is a wonderful place to experience the natural beauty of Northern Minnesota.

Great, authentic, classic cabin with modern amenities like AC, streaming TV, grill, etc. View is tremendous sitting on a small hill at lakeside. Wabedo is also a great fishing lake, especially for smallmouth bass. We enjoyed our stay tremendously!

Relaxing Week
We are repeat visitors to Wabedo Cabin since 2012. We had great weather and great fishing. Everything is always so comfortable and the Busters are the best at making sure everything is perfect. The log cabin has anything you might need so you don’t need to worry if you forget anything. Longville has some quaint shops and a great coffee shop and ice cream shop. The cabin is close for day trips to Walker or Bemidji or Grand Rapids. We’ll be back again.

Fall getaway!
This was a wonderful log cabin! Everything we could have needed was right there! The lake view was unbelievable! I don’t think I could write anything about this property that I didn’t like! The bed in the Queen room was very comfortable, and, you could watch the lake from there! The loons were so fun to listen to! We made a fire in the wood stove a couple of nights, very cozy! My husband fished for musky, and, although he didn’t get one into the boat, he saw about 5 follows, which, I guess is pretty good! The leaves were just starting to change, and, they were beautiful to see on our walks! Kirk and Shannon thought of everything anybody could want to have a fun and relaxing vacation!

About the host

Host profile image
I grew up in northern Minnesota, just a couple of hours east of our cabin. I have so many fond memories of fishing with my dad and brother, camping with the family, hiking with Boy Scouts and exploring with friends. When I got married, I talked my (agreeable) wife into a Northwoods, Boundary Waters, house-boating honeymoon. She was instantly hooked on Minnesota and we've vacationed here most summers since.

Why they chose this property

We were looking for the classic Minnesota lake cabin and knew we were at home the first time we saw this early-40s log cabin.
