Each year we rent a large venue for our annual family vacation. Blanco Rapids Ranch did not disappoint. This year we had two extra families, for a total of six, including 12 adults and 5 children. There was plenty of elbow room both inside and outside - large kitchen, two living areas and multiple dining areas. Everyone had a private bedroom, with the master in the main house, a separate guest house, and the four bedrooms in the (themed) casitas. The kitchen and bathrooms were well stocked, including dishes, spices and shampoo. The stars of the home are the enjoyable back patios, and of course, the Blanco river. Lots of time was spent in the river, and while there are numerous places to sit under the shade in the water, we also brought a shade canopy and set it up in the water. There are shallow areas for wading, rocky areas with small rapids for climbing around, and a deeper area for swimming. Bring your river shoes. Even though it was blue-blazes hot this summer we hung out on the patio that overlooked the river, watching the birds at sunrise and the bats at sunset. We visited the goat herd in the adjoining pasture, faithfully guarded by a Great Pyrenees. This was a nice remote-style getaway and the family vote is that we would come back.
