About this property
House with Stunning Ocean View
This home is a welcoming retreat for artists and anyone who values quiet and seclusion. It is decorated in an eclectic mix of antique items (including a cannister set from the 1880's once belonging to my great-grandparents in the Netherlands) to original works of modern art. The open concept mini home was renovated in 2021/22 to provide everything you could hope for in a vacation home: A/C, updated kitchen, sliding doors to a huge screen room, woodstove and ensuite bathroom. Please note - the house is on a steep hill so if you are towing a heavy trailer, or your vehicle needs a brake job - this may not be the rental for you.

The seal dealer was the enclosed veranda. 2 full bathrooms, 2 bedrooms and a very comfortable, enjoyable open concept kitchen/living room area. Loved watching the nature as well as the lobster boats and freighters going past. Great central place for going to different areas. Excellent food choices, especially The Cove (3 times). Would love to come back and definitely recommend to anyone looking for a wonderful place to stay.
Wonderful, small place which was exactly what we were looking for. We used it as a base to explore Cape Breton Trail. Master bedroom very nice en suite. Spare bedroom very small. Great woodburning stove! And view was nice.
Well kept, older modular home. The place grew on me. It was early spring so the straight was readily visible. The driveway is quite steep. We didn't have any trouble getting up but it not for the faint of heart. The gas grill was a great feature. Wifi worked well.
We visited "Authentic Seacoast"/Rare bird brewing and had a great time.
We stayed 26 nights with our dog. The cottage itself was clean, up to date and well outfitted (new, soft beds!). The property is very private, heavily wooded and with great sight lines to the water. It is actually located in Steep Creek, about 4-5 miles from Mulgrave proper (and the nearest coffee shop). Google has it wrong. The sole road there (Rte 344) doesn't have much of a shoulder so we had to drive everywhere, including for dog walks. Having an electrical outlet (lighting) on the porch and a couple of folding chairs to sit outside (the weather was lovely) would be plusses. Don't overlook the 5km trail in Mulgrave and extensive trails in Port Hawkesbury; the Cove Motel on the water in nearby Aulds Cove is a good choice for a superior meal.
La propriétaire est toujours disponible et très gentille! Endroit calme et paisible! Nous avons pu voyager avec notre chien et c’est toujours agréable lorsque les propriétaires acceptent les chiens! Beau séjour!
The cottage was perfect for taking daily outings to the surrounding area including an easy access to the Cabot trail. The house was super clean. We were even greeted with a bald eagle fly by on arrival.
As other reviews have noted, be sure to stop by the Front Porch for coffee and goodies.
Our stay at Steep Creek was very enjoyable and relaxing.
The house was clean, tidy, and in great condition. Looks like there have been many upgrades done inside and out.
Karen read one of Rennys books (Garden Girl) while we were there and really liked the book. We would not hesitate to recommend this home.
Thanks for sharing Woodsong cottage Renny.

Nice place but need to replace the beds. Really liked having two washrooms for four adults. It was unfortunate that it rained so much. I would rent again if I was coming back to the area.
Renny’s place is exactly as advertised. Great view and excellent positioning for our daylong exploration.
Renny provided some excellent insight into nearby places (beaches and an island) to visit. We particularly liked the beach she recommended (Point Michaud). A beautiful and tranquil Nova Scotia beach.
One place we enjoyed that we happened upon was the Musgrave Museum. The gentleman who runs the facility was a true pleasure to visit with and learn some history about the surrounding area.
We found Renny’s place to offer good value and a great base for our daily pursuits.
We came here for a quiet weekend and this rental was exactly what we were looking for. It was far enough from the road that we could take the kids outside for a walk and even got to see some local wildlife!
I am an author (I write under the name Renny deGroot) of Historical Fiction, Non-Fiction and now Mysteries set in Cape Breton Island. I love the outdoors and spend many happy hours walking with my dogs.
Why they chose this property
This house showcases the beauty of the area, located on The Marine Trail. Centrally located, Halifax, and the Cabot Trail can both be done as day trips. Relax in the screen room and watch the eagles float by.
What makes this property unique
All on one floor, it's ideal for people who don't want to navigate a lot of stairs. It is pet-friendly. Peaceful and private, it's perfect for those looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of a busy community.
