Dated, musty and dirty
What we liked: · Location · We appreciated that they had some cleaning supplies and spices in the house. · The mattresses were in good condition. What we didn’t like: · Upon arrival, the outside front door was noticeably dirty – what a terrible first impression! It would have taken 30 seconds to wipe it down. · In fact, the entire house did not appear to have been professionally cleaned. It seems to have had just the minimum – probably the bathrooms were cleaned and a light dusting/vacuuming. · The fridge had not been wiped out. · There was other people’s stuff in the freezer – we just left it alone. · The house had a “pet smell” and we assume this was because of the owner’s dog, because tenant pets were not allowed. · Some of the windows were dirty and/or didn’t really open OR would stay open/fall open when you didn’t want them to. · Some were very dirty between the glass and the screen (outer sill area) with grime and dead bugs. · Some of the blinds didn’t really work. · The decks hadn’t been swept – we did this when we arrived – lots of leaves, seed pods, etc. · The outside furniture hadn’t been wiped at all – I realize things get dusty, but you could tell it was more than just a day’s worth of pollen, soot, etc. · There were dead bugs under the beds – did not look like a very thorough vacuuming was done. · Very old bathrooms that appear to have the original 50-year old super-low toilets and sinks! You don’t see these much anymore. · The kitchen was dark and grim, with dim lighting, old counters and linoleum, and sticky painted cabinets. · The family room had a window air conditioner, but the room smelled so musty that we couldn’t enjoy sitting there. Also, it didn’t have a door, just a curtain, so you couldn’t really seal it off. · The outdoor shower lock was poorly installed so we couldn’t get into it at all, at first. We had to crawl underneath the walls to get in. It would also really help to have a better path (more stones or planks) to be able to walk to the back door without getting your feet dirty in the yard after a shower. · Some attempts had been made to repaint certain rooms, but in each case there was paint slopped on the hinges, knobs or other fixtures – just added to the unkempt appearance and lack of continuity. Overall, the house is very old and dated and VERY expensive!
