Ruru Retreat in Tuateawa

Set well off the road. A private and secluded cottage and although there are no sea views it is within a short stroll to the coast. A real suntan with great outdoor living.
Queen bedroom. Plenty of flat areas for parking a boat.
Three sandy beaches and a rocky foreshore close by.
Small boat access within 5min.
Great snorkeling, diving, swimming, water sports and Bush walks at your doorstep.
Tuateawa is 19km from Coromandel town on a road that is partially sealed.
A secret slice of paradise waiting to be discovered. Sky television is connected but no Wi-Fi.
Wake to the sound of bird calls and go to sleep with the sound of ruru (moreporks).
You may even hear the kiwi call in the neighbouring valley. Dogs are welcome.

Adored Ruru Retreat!

Absolutely loved this lil slice of native bird and bush paradise! So close to the coast so your spoilt for choice for beaches. Do recommend bringing your bug spray and citronella candles but honestly this lil cabin is such a vibe! The kiwis calling and Little Bay were highlights for us - and being able to bring our old Labrador mate on holiday with us. So special. Thank you again and we will definitely be back!

Secluded blissful stay 🌸

If you want to get away from it all, then this is your spot. Tucked away in the forest, but still close enough to hear the ocean. Beautiful setting with lovely birdlive. Enjoyed spending Easter weekend there for a propped rest. No cell reception, so be prepared.

Ruru cottage, Tuateawa

The photos advertising the rental are misleading as to view. The only view from the cottage is a raupo swamp backed by a hillside of Manuka. The stove does not work. The freezer was full of someone else’s meat which the agent had to come and clear so we could use it. The light over the table did not work. No bedding for the child to use the pull out bed. No chairs. The enjoyable parts of our visit were visiting friends at other rentals, the fireworks display on NY’s eve and visits to the Brickel railway and to Colville.

No sea views, on a shared property in a gully.

No Sea view, the Bach was in a gully by a mosquito swamp on a shared property with the closest swimable beach 5.8km drive away on a steep and narrow gravel road. The oven was not hooked up and the bench top alternative did not make cooking Christmas dinner an hassle free day. It took three times as long to cook anything! Also the freezer was full of dog bones so our ice cream and frozen food was wasted. Other than that it was OK

Great chilled escape

Great to get the late afternoon sun on deck when many places in the area are shaded. Really appreciated being dog friendly. Also appreciated finding some candles when the storm took out the areas power temporarily! We experienced all weather & seasons in the one stay!

Excellent getaway

The Ruru Retreat is a fabulous place to stay, along gravel roads and nestled in the bush it truly is a getaway. Close to the idyllic Little Bay and the stunning Kennedy Bay, you are spoilt for beautiful beaches. The property is well set up catering for everything. The bird song and the resident Quail family are delightful. Bonus that the property is dog friendly. 100% recommend. Can’t wait to visit again.

Private and quite.

Great get away from busy Auckland,if you need time to reboot or just want a quiet place to hear early morning bird song and read a good book this is the place for you.

Very well appointed bach

We stayed for 6 nights. The Bach was considerably bigger than the photos suggested and was very well appointed, clean and modern. Richie and Lorna were wonderful hosts and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Thanks again for the fresh fish Richie!

Ruru Retreat

Beautiful location, centred in an area of great natural beauty from white sand beaches and ancient trees to panoramic views over the peninsula and ranges. Lovely people to deal with - happy to let you have your space to holiday in but there if you need them.

Lovely place 😊

Lovely bach in a quiet spot. The house was just as described. Second bedroom in a caravan was nice and cosy. Nice extra touches from Lorna. Would recommend if you want to get away from it all for a bit.

Beautiful hideaway in the bush near the water

Had a great weekend in tuateawa. Lorna and Richard are lovely people, very friendly and helpful. We all loved the bar and the open plan layout, with a well layed out kitchen. Thanks for the night light so we could see the morepork and puriri bugs, super cool

Tranquility at it's best

My partner and I stayed here for 2 nights, and we fell in love with the place, accommodation was the best value for money and it was such a peaceful environment. Easy walk down to boat ramp where we snorkelled and free dived from, talked to the locals and made our way up to port Charles. Fantastic! Didnt want to leave.

We had a lovely weekend at the Bach! It has all amenities and comfort that we expected!

Our hosts were very welcoming and helpful, and we really enjoyed our stay at the Bach! It was very clean and comfortable. The kitchen facilities were very well equipped with everything we needed. The location was also good! Thanks for letting us stay! We would definitely like to visit again!

Lovely little holiday house

We had such a relaxing time here. Hosts Richard and Lorna were very welcoming and the house was clean and tidy with a peaceful atmosphere. We loved feeding the Quail at dusk, and Little Bay has become our new most favourite beach. I would absolutely recommend this place. Thanks for having us, we will be back again!
