Beautiful cottage with plenty of space

We truly enjoyed our stay at this well-equipped cottage. The beds were comfortable, and despite the cool and rainy weather during our first two-night stay, we found the living and dining areas to be cozy and inviting, especially with the wood-burning fireplace. The fishing and mushroom picking were fantastic. The stairs leading to the lake might be challenging for some guests. The only downside was the outdoor fire restriction, even after the rain, which was a bit disappointing. Overall, we had a wonderful time and would definitely stay here again.

Kiltearn Cottage

Our family enjoyed a wonderful two weeks at Kiltearn Cottage. The cottage is lovely with everything you need for a holiday. The kitchen in particular is very well supplied. There is a panoramic view over the lake from the deck where you can sit and relax. The opposite shore is a Frontenac Provincial Park so the lake is very quiet and peaceful. The small bay in front of the cottage has a sandy bottom and is shallow. My grandchildren spent many an hour playing in the water. We were also able to catch fish right off the small dock. The grounds are amazing, secluded and quiet. There are wonderful granite formations right next to it that are very interesting. The birds were also extraordinary with hummingbirds coming to the feeders. We also sighted a Red Tail Hawk and a Barred Owl. We were all entranced by the cottage, the lake, the forest and the hills. I highly recommend this cottage.

My professional background is as a Chartered Accountant and management consultant. I am also an offshore sailing instructor, and veteran epee fencer. Kiltearn, which I helped build for my parents in the late 1970s, is now my private residence most of the year, but we make it available for others to enjoy for a few weeks each year.

Walk into the upper level of our two-level home from the parking area. The upper level has 12 foot ceilings with exposed beams, a fully-equipped kitchen, dining room with a unique homebuilt cedar table, spacious living room with leather furniture and a cut stone fireplace, office / den with brick fireplace, newly-renovated 3 piece bathroom, and master bedroom (queen memory foam mattress) with ensuite 2 piece washroom. Floors are varnished pine, most walls are cedar. Walk out from the living room onto a large elevated deck with spectacular views over the lake, BBQ, and outside eating area.

The lower level includes three bedrooms with queen beds and a central recreation / play area with a wood stove. The lower level is cool even during the heat of an Ontario summer. There is a walkout leading to the rustic path to the private point (with sitting area and hammock), and down 20 steps to our mini-beach, dock, and kid-friendly shallow swimming area in our private bay. Older Kids and adults alike love swimming out to dive off the rocks.

In the backyard, you will find our kitchen garden, wood-fired sauna with outdoor shower, play area for kids, and firewood storage. (There is a separate bunkie that is used as a workshop but is not available to guests.)

There are several small craft available including a canoe, rowboat, and kayak. Two Sunfish sailboats and a windsurfer are available for individuals with previous sailing experience. For safety reasons please bring your own well fitting lifejackets. Use of watercraft is at your own risk: guests are required to sign a Release of Liability Waiver to use any watercraft.
