The Neighborhood:
Before January 2010 the area that we knew as Teneriffe was officially just a part of Newstead. The Brisbane City Council approved the designation of Teneriffe as a suburb in February 2010 and the locals helped define the boundaries of this new suburb.
Historically the area was home to the first wool store built in 1909 with another dozen or so built after this until the 1950s.
Recently, these wool stores and factories were converted into residential apartments which sit nicely along the older Queenslander homes that have undergone renovations.
Teneriffe has long been known for its great restaurants with most of them situated along Vernon Terrace besides the Brisbane River.
You can walk up and down the tree lined street and pop into whichever restaurant or cafe that takes your fancy.
There’s Japanese, Spanish, Vietnamese, Italian and quality Bistro, Pub and Wine Bar menus to choose from - it’s alfresco dining at its best! Don’t worry if you’re having a few drinks with your dinner as there is a nearby ferry which runs from Teneriffe Ferry Wharf on the Brisbane River.
Teneriffe is also home to a wide variety of stores selling local fashions, homewares and furniture. A great place to stay in Brisbane and a must see as one of Brisbane's newest suburbs!
