The Neighborhood:
Willemstad, capital and chief town of Curaçao, located on the southern coast of the island of Curaçao in the Caribbean Sea. It is divided into two halves, Punda and Otrabanda ("Other Side"). The two are connected by the famous Koningin Emma ("Queen Emma") Bridge; opened in 1888 and rebuilt in 1939, the bridge underwent a major restoration in the early 21st century. A fixed bridge was completed in 1974.

Willemstad is a Caribbean centre of trade, petroleum storage and refining, tourism, and banking. The town has many Dutch-style gabled houses. Notable buildings include Fort Amsterdam (1635), which once guarded the entrance to Schottegat Harbour and is now the seat of government and definitely worth a visit. Other, icon landmarks are the Dutch Reformed Church (1769) and the Mikvé Israel-Emanuel Synagogue (1732), the oldest synagogue in continuous use in the Western Hemisphere.

We also advise guest to visit Museum Kurá Hulanda, which chronicles the history of African empires, the slave trade, and the experiences of Africans in the Western Hemisphere. The Curaçao Museum, which features traditional and contemporary art, is the island's oldest museum. In 1997 the inner city and harbour of Willemstad were designated a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Location Great/ Not Process

VRBO doesn't manage the rental-Third Party. I raised my concerns with VRBO and they assured me that I would have coverage if something occurred. Received apparent scam email (that was correct) to pay outside of VRBO. Arrival- agent almost charges me again for the room until I show my receipts, 50 stairs (no elevator) in hot corridor with piles of trash at the base of the stairs, charges for air conditioning/ electricity if going over their threshold, no blanket even on request (just a sheet), HARD mattress (requested the mattress pad left in the laundry on the floor put on and they did add it), three pillows (some left in laundry with no pillowcases), one plate, no spoons (requested and never received), and finally the best quality was a great location for the fireworks on New Years Eve. We could see everything from our window! The most challenging was the stairs. It was a hot and stinky stairwell for at least 50 steps. I had poor sleep at night due to the bedding being inadequate. First night was extremely hot since the air conditioning was off at arrival. Took all night to cool it off. During the week, we were able to cook some of our own meals as the unit provided nice cookware. Potential renters should be aware of all these conditions. The island is beautiful- favorite beaches are Mambo and Grote Knip. On New Year's Eve, there are many celebrations in the streets to join starting in the day and lasting into the evening.
