Retro Cottage, walk to beach, dog friendly, close to shops & transport

I'm a Gold Coast local and have lived in this glorious location for the past 32 years. I am originally from Brisbane but spent my childhood holidaying on the coast, and visiting my grandfather, who used to own and live in the house I now call 'The Love Shack'. I bought this home from my family around 26 years ago and have looked after it with love ever since. I lived here for 16 years myself before I married then moved out to start a family. The house was permanently rented until recently, when I decided it was time to once again give it the love it deserves.

Whilst I have retained the original architecture and charm of the home, I have upgraded all the necessities to make it a comfortable place to reside. The house underwent renovation in 2014, replacing much of the original fibro. The bungalow was stripped back to it's wooden frame and floor, and resheeted with new materials, retaining its original, internal gabled roof.

I am pleased to be able to share this classic 1950's home, that has been in my family for 58 years, with all who choose to visit.

Why would you want to visit 'The Love Shack'? Why wouldn't you?! The history of this property is a feature in itself. From the moment you arrive you will feel like you are where you are meant to be. The white picket fence, big front yard and original 50's architecture make the property stand out from the large modern designs that surround it. The past has been perfectly preserved inside and out, bringing back memories for those who may have holidayed at similar 'shacks' in their childhood, and providing a glimpse of the past for the younger generation.

Enter through the classic French doors, and you will feel a warm, welcoming vibe. The original breakfast bar is a stand out feature and a museum piece on its own. The polished cypress pine floor laid 67 years ago, could tell many stories of visitors who have walked its boards. The cosy bedrooms with the old fashioned built in wardrobes provide plenty of space to store your belongings, and the styled beds a peaceful place to rest your head.

Through to the backyard and you will find the next feature which is the detached bungalow. Originally a garage relocated from Budd's beach in the 60's, this renovated 'shed' was used by my grandfather and my father as a 'radio shack' to operate their 'ham radio'. They would talk to people from all around the country on a Sunday morning. I recall the squelch of the dial as they tuned into a distant voice. It was a highlight of my childhood, listening to strangers on the other end of the microphone tell their stories then sign of with "73's", which was ham speak for "best regards".

Now a kids retreat or office, with games and a large TV, the bungalow is the ideal place for your young ones to 'hang out', whilst the adults enjoy the main house and outdoor dining area. The large backyard provides plenty of space for play and for you to relax on the banana lounges in northern sunshine, which warms the area all day long.
