About this property

Mountain Artsy House

Mountain Artsy House - is a beautifully decorated, four bedroom, three bathroom house nestled in the Helena National Forest. Come relax in this mountain retreat space! This VRBO property is built into the side of the hill. The front of the house faces the stream running through the property. Note the stone wall stretching across the property line! (This wall was supposedly built by Chinese laborers during the gold-mine era!) You will feel far away from the hustle and bustle of town, yet you are only 5 miles from the city center.

The house is really split into two separate apartments - one per floor. This works well for large family groups so they can eat all together in the huge kitchen upstairs, but have their own space with a small kitchen downstairs. The upstairs has two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a large open kitchen/dining area/living room, a huge deck, and a "music room" (piano!). The downstairs has two bedrooms, one bathroom, a laundry room, a dining area/living room with windows and glass door facing the pond.

Comfortable home

I loved the setting and view. It wasn’t far out of Helena but felt like a mountain getaway. We had a great family stay and the owner was very accommodating and responsive. Pets are welcome it says and there was a bit of a pet smell in the basement.

Peaceful Mountain Setting

We spent a month in Theresa’s house and there were many wonderful surprises, especially in nature: nesting robins, entertaining chipmunks, a beautiful creek with its constant gentle babbling, and a wonderful deck on which to enjoy the view. Butterflies on three blooming lilacs were gorgeous. The house has everything we needed, comfortable bedding, and the owner Theresa is very dedicated to making it a great experience. Wonderful place to enjoy being away from it all but only minutes from Helena and Last Chance Gulch. The house is perfect for the multigenerational experience since it has two kitchens and two living areas. Highly recommend!

Tucked away and Beautiful

The surrounding were amazing. We loved the small lake just behind the home. The home itself was very comfortable and every that stayed there was very pleased with the accommodations. No-one wanted to leave.

Roomy house. Great family space.

Nice arrangement of rooms land plenty of space for a couple with 3 grown children land spouses. Sewage smell downstairs, went away with closing off laundry room.

Keeping Cool

Our stay here was great! The lower level stayed nice and cool no matter how hot it was in town. There was a lot of noise from the clomping and stomping feet of upstairs guests, but that happens. (Our final night and morning were blissfully quiet because all the peeps were gone.) The place is very spacious, the beds are comfy, the location is fabulous, with a little creek/pond gurgling by and bouldering right out the door! (I'm a climber.) It has a small kitchen, but that can be worked around. My suggestions would be to have a crock pot available and have some board games around. FYI, there is a piano (yep, I played it first thing upon arrival) and a wood stove (yep, we used it on the chilly, rainy days) and a propane gas grill (yep, you guessed it!), a picnic table and a swing outside. Beautiful flowers abound. The Artsy Mountain House lives up to its name.

Quiet, reclusive, relaxing

Even though it's just a few minutes outside of town it felt like we were deep in the wilderness. The peaceful isolation was just what we wanted

Comfortable country getaway yet easily accessible to all that Helena has to offer, which is a lot.

We enjoyed the privacy and seclusion of this place while making day trips to Helena - the museums, restaurants, tours, and history of Montana's capitol city, all within easy reach. Kitchen is a small, but with a bit of disciplined planning, it works well. A quiet, pleaceful, relaxing place to enjoy a respite from the hectic pace of everyday life. We hope to do it again soon. Didn't have time to see and do everything this first time around.

I am very interested in the arts; good movies, art, music, dance, and above all - stimulating conversation. I worked as a counselor for many years. (I continue to have a small private practice.) . Mostly I now teach teach piano lessons and art classes. (check out cardielloartgarage.com.)
I currently live in Helena , but lived in this mountain house with my family for more almost two decades! I have a lot of great memories of this property!

Why they chose this property

If you want a true Montana experience, this is your place! The house is nestled in the mountains, but is close to Helena, so you really have the best of both worlds. You will feel like you are camping, may see lots of wildlife! (lots of deer and chipmunks, an occasional moose, bear, and I personally saw a mountain lion once!) and, without visible neighbors, (except for the renter in the detached garage apartment, you will feel like you are away from the hustle and bustle of city life. You are close to hiking/biking trails.
I recently put a lot of time/effort/money into updating this property - with mostly new windows/doors, new granite countertops, huge marble table! outside summer furniture, outside fire pit, pellet stove, fully furnished kitchen with everything you might need for a comfortable stay.

What makes this property unique

Unique is the word for this property! Again, this is a rural, mountain experience - with all of the comforts of a modern home!
If you are planning a trip to Montana to site-see, Helena is halfway between Glacier Park and Yellowstone!

Of note, you will travel one mile on a dirt road to get here. However, this road is generally well maintained, as it is on a school bus route. (This road can get rutty at times.)
I recently was able to get good wifi service there! (no more satellite service!!) . Cell service (Verizon) is spotty. I have a cell phone booster put in, which has helped. No TV service at this time.
