About this property

Amazing views - Flame Trees over the Daintree

Welcome to Flame Trees over the Daintree

With arguably one of the best views in the Daintree, immerse yourself in nature while relaxing on the spacious verandah overlooking the Daintree Rainforest with fabulous views of Thornton Peak. This brick house on the hill offers a comfortable stay, with a newly renovated bathroom and a functional kitchen.

The space
The art-deco coloured brick house has a bright spacious bedroom and a large open space living room and kitchen. The bathroom, toilet and laundry are newly renovated. The functional kitchen includes a large fridge and a traditional gas oven / stove.
The verandah extends across the length of the house with a comfortable lounge plus chairs and tables. Why not put up one of the hammocks to relax and enjoy the view!
There is a spacious outdoor undercover dining area with BBQ.
All windows are fitted with mosquito screens and both rooms have ceiling fans.
There are books, puzzles and games available plus an extensive collection of DVDs that can be watched on the Blaupunkt TV. There is no free to air TV.

Guest access
Guests have access to the entire house and property.
There are native rainforest trees and old orchard growth. We are in the process of reforesting the property and have already planted 800 plus trees. Guests are welcome to explore the property and pick any fruit that are ripe! A map with details of the trees will be available, together with further information on the animals that live on the property.
Please note - currently pig traps are set up on the property, guests are requested to stay clear of the traps and advise the caretaker if any animal is inside the trap. Do not approach any animal on the property!

Other things to note
Please note, there is no mains power or mains water north of the Daintree River. The property runs on a small solar system and a rainwater tank, therefore guests are requested to be mindful with power and water usage. Please don't use appliances that use a lot of power, e.g. hair dryer, shaver, blender. Please only use the washing machine during the (sunny) day and if the batteries are charged. On overcast days the generator might need to be run to top up the batteries.
The rainwater is potable, however a water filter is provided for convenience.
There is very good WiFi at the property, however there is no phone reception (sometimes Vodafone has a little reception in one spot). Telstra WiFi calling works well. The closest reliable phone reception is in front of Crocodylus Village.

About the area - Note, due to road closures after the hurricane, there might be restricted access to places in the Daintree.
Cow Bay is a small community in the Daintree Rainforest. There are no shops close by, with the closest being the service station / shop at Daintree Rainforest Village in Diwan (9km drive). It is highly recommended that you buy all your supplies in Mossman (Woolworths) or Port Douglas (Coles) before crossing the river.
Cow Bay Beach is 1.7km from the property and is a beautiful spot (however swimming is not recommended due to crocodiles, there are swimming holes at Mason's cafe and Heritage Lodge).
Recommend visiting the Daintree Discovery Centre to learn more about the Daintree. There are Jindalba, Madja and Dubuji boardwalks and hikes .
There are a number of meal options at Thornton's, Mason's Cafe, Turtle Rock Cafe and others. And don't miss the fantastic tropical ice cream at the Daintree Ice Cream Factory!
Make sure to book a Daintree River tour with SolarWhisper or the Daintree Boatman for a bit of croc and bird spotting.
The snorkel tour with OceanSafari out of Cape Tribulation is highly recommended.

Getting there
There is no public transport in the area. The closest airport is Cairns International Airport (120km / 2.5 hours drive). Recommend to get a rental car in Cairns.
Please note, there is a car ferry across the Daintree River at additional cost.

Loved our stay at Flame Trees
Loved our stay. Really comfortable (no aircon but fans were adequate). Best thing about this place is that most accom in the Daintree is down in the rainforest which is very pretty but also hot, abit stuffy and full of mozi’s! Up here you have the breeze and the view and it’s just a great spot to come back too.
