Lovely spot.
The spot was lovely. We actually ended up upgrading to the cottage next door, owned by the same owner, which I highly recommend. The “big cabin” is very clean and well appointed.

Needs updates, cleaning
Pealing paint on concreate floor, feels like a garage. Needs cleanup outside-lawn not mowed, curtains have dead mosquitos, No paint on window trim, Curtain in bath looks awful. The house photo does not represent the house as it looks today.Do updates & it would be quite appealing, mosquitoes aside.

Great spot!
Five stars for a no frills, reasonably priced place to stay. Our toddler loved the bunkhouse and all of the brochures, books and things to explore. The owner was very responsive when we had a few questions. We had a great beach day at Popham beach and loved checking out Head Beach. Would stay here again.

Great Ocean Getaway
We had a lovely stay😊 It had a cute cottage feel and it was close to Popham…We loved the wild flowers and the painted rocks❤️ The kids loved the bunk house. Being from here we loved seeing the history and repurposed items to make the bunk house super special. Water pressure was low, I‘d bring bottled water for drinking and cooking.

Quick beach getaway with the kids
The girls loved the amazing bunkhouse! We used almost all our bug spray on those hungry mosquitoes. So many close, amazing beaches. Cottage is rustic but it was nice to be forced to disconnect without any internet or TV.

A Weekend in Maine
This property was exactly how the owner described. A quiet cottage nestled in the woods, where the only noise was the wind rushing through the trees, the birds chirping, and the occasional angry squirrel letting us know we disrupted his peace. The cottage was lovely and that bunkhouse was adorable! If you're looking to step away and unplug this is the place for you. There is no TV - a very pleasant change, and no cell reception at the cottage, but you'll find it at Fort Popham just a minute or two up the road. Take some board games, a book from your TBR stack and enjoy a quiet respite. We'll definitely be return visitors!

Don't be fooled
Don't be fooled...these pictures are not how this currently looks. The yard is so overgrown there's barely a path into the house. So many mosquitoes, I was covered just going from the car to the front door. The inside was not cozy or welcoming. Old furnishings, dirty curtains and very small with no air conditioning. You can't contact the owner while you're there because there's absolutely no cell service. Convenient for him!

Cottage review
The cottage is very small not looking like in photos. Cannot accommodate 4 adults and a kid even though they accept for 5 people. Bunker house is extremely crowded. There is no parking and no internet. The place doesn't look safe. The cottage is in a very much inside the forest. We reached there in heavy ra in. The trees seems to be falling into the cabin. There were no people nearby and we were not able to reach the owner be cause the phone connection were not there. We had to return back home because the place was not safe and we lost the entire booking fees. The owner didnt consider our request to refund altleast for a day. The experience was horrible and we lost one day of our life.

Terrible Listing
The pictures for this listing are not accurate and the overall cleanliness, spaciousness, and kid-friendly aspect of this cottage was very disappointing. This is advertised as a private 18 acre lot with a marsh and trails and we saw nothing but overgrown shrubbery/pathway and 3 houses surrounding the cottage which takes away from the spacious/private aspect we were looking for. The parking area was very small for a full size truck and there were some items left behind from the previous person(s) that should have been thrown away. The arms of the chairs in the living area were ripped up and all the curtains looked like they’d never been cleaned. A few days into our trip I was contacted by the owner to not use the water for a few days as it had a “sulfur” smell and they were going to bleach the well. The water then turned dark yellow/brown for 2 plus days and because of not being able to shower, etc. We decided to leave early to stay with family for the rest of our time in Maine. The water heater set up/pipes is also completely accessible and not very well hidden in the bathroom which is a huge concern for children and the broken shells out front are more of a hazard than decoration. I am glad we decided not to invite the kids and the overall cleanliness was worse than what I would keep my own house.

Confusing and disappointing
GPS took us to a home with potential but no curtains on windows throughout the house, needing lots of work, most screens off windows, swarms of mosquitoes never ending, no tv, radio, internet, cell service, nothing on walls, felt unsafe, bare home with uncomfortable beds that were unsure of cleanliness. No way to reach owner until next am. He owns the three homes that are on this dirt road and unbeknownst to us, the first one was the cottage we rented in spite of GPS location. Looked at it next am and this was terrible, so small, unclean, uncomfortable and no way staying there. Finally connected with owner who appeared to want to make things right. Agreed we could stay in the house we were in night before. He also ensured we got internet which made us feel safer. We have been so pleased in our years using VRBO and was so disappointed in this one. The house we stayed in has potential but he will need to make significant, major changes to meet standards of what we have expected in VRBO. This was our annual mother/daughter trip to Maine for my daughters birthday and this almost ruined it!!

Simple and Unpretentious
This simple, plain cottage is as it is. It is seemingly meant for those who love the ocean, the mountains and an escape. In my opinion, a few things to note; positives and things to plan ahead for. First, it has all the means for a full stay. Coffee pot, a few pots and pans, basic dishes in a fully functional kitchen. Clean linens and towels provided, a hot shower and plenty of blankets to cozy up after a long day adventuring. Second, the bunk house an unbelievable sleeping hideout, like a children’s fort. With the most amazing woodwork craftsmanship and creative design I’ve seen in forever. I adored sleeping there and wanted to put it on a trailer and take it home with me (and add curtains) Lastly, things to consider in your planned trip here. -Beach access to Head Beach/private beach right up the street and others nearby. -Internet, wifi, tv- if your “escape” has these in mind you’ll have to touch base in advance and get that organized. I do believe our host has other properties on the same road with more amenities. -Bugs- there is marsh and wetlands nearby that clearly creates mosquitos. No problem, bring some bug spray, keep bathroom window shut, do not turn on all the lights and open all the windows-obviously. It may not be meticulously cleaned, there are not extravagant or even beyond basic curtains and furnishings. Just so you know to expect. If you live for beach/hike/sleep repeat and no tv/cell/internet then this is it. I absolutely loved our stay.

Good basic cottage in the woods
There’s spiders in the corners and dust bunnies under the bed, but it’s a great basic place to stay at a good price. Head beach is a nice alternative to Popham, which was glorious as always. The place is well worn, but two 58 year old friends slept well on the mattress and futon. Kitchen has a standard lobster pot and serving dishes. I would definitely stay here again, but a thorough cleaning and fresh paint/put up blinds instead of curtains would keep even more people coming back. Loved the silence and stars at night, listened to great horned and screech owls, watched meteors fall, and restored my soul .

Adorable teeny cottage but shabby & dirty
Had hoped to provide a positive review but unfortunately I can't. The owner was pleasant & helpful on the phone prior to our visit & the little cottage could have been very cute, but it was poorly maintained, dirty & the furniture was falling apart. The curtains were filthy with stains on most all of them. It didn't appear to have been cleaned in between guests. The bathroom was grungy, the blankets were dusty & filled w/hair and who knows what else. I couldn't sleep because the bed was so uncomfortable. When heating a pot-pie in the oven, I went to grab pot-holders to pull the 350 degree pan out of the oven, but alas, there were none. It was a challenge to not burn my hands, balancing the pan on a spatula with 2 face-clothes as a pot-holders. There's no cell service, wifi, TV or any way to communicate w/the outside world; pretty much the only entertainment was a 2014 National Geographic magazine! The final straw was waking up the following morning to no toilet paper in the entire cottage for 5 occupants who were staying there. Totally disasterous stay.

The good, the bad, some tips
The good: affordable, quiet, close to beaches, Bissons, Hermit Island store and Anna's, Spinney's restaurants. Bright space w/ high ceilings, lots of windows, clean kitchen with newish appliances, clean towels and sheets, owner is friendly and responsive (call if you don't get him by email). The bad: The water is unpleasant. Bring your own to drink. If you are planning on cooking, kitchen is lacking: decent pots and pans, teflon friendly stirring/cooking implements, cutting boards, salad spinner, baking sheet, oven mitts. Bring a clothes line. Living room furniture not very comfy and chairs are ripped. In general the place could use a deep clean and some nice art work on the walls and updated furniture. The bedroom mattress/bed is terrible (one corner is held up by a block and can collapse if you lean on the bed). No internet except if you get the password from the house next door you can get it spottily from bedroom if window is open and you are sitting right near it. Ask owner for the Head beach pass if you want it. Mosquitos are ferocious outside, but once you figure out that the screen in the bathroom is ripped and keep that window closed, and how to go in and out of the front door fast- you will be less bothered. I would stay there again if he got the bed fixed, and maybe bring my own vacuum and cleaning supplies. Can't beat the price and location to all the great spots.

Communication Letdown
Overall this was an okay stay. The communicatiom with the owner is what brought down the score. We enjoyed the bed and slept well. The cabin is tucked away in the trees, but sits adjacent to the neighbor large rental cabin. Luckily, this was not rented during our stay and the area was very quiet. Overall this was an okay stay. The lack of communication with the owner brings the score down. We enjoyed the bed and slept well. The cabin is nicely tucked away in the trees, but sits adjacent to a large rental cabin. Luckily, this was not rented during our stay and the area was very quiet. Unfortunately, communication with the owner was extremely poor from the booking. When I first booked the reservation had expired. A day after receiving the rejection the owner contacted me and informed me I was pre-approved and could still book the dates. It was starting to be the high season and rentals are limited so we booked even with the slight booking hick-up. The day of our rental I messaged the owner to inform them we would arrive after dark around 9 pm. Internet service is poor in this area, but after waiting hours without a response from the owner. We arrived at the rental around 9 pm and unsure how to check-in we tried the door and it was unlocked. We looked around to find an informational binder or packet, but found nothing. This was disappointing because several reviews mention an informational binder with Head Beach passes. The cabin did not have internet provided and there was no signal in this area so we could not get in touch with the owner. In the listing the owner went out of their way to inform us bedding would not be provided so we brought our own. Bedding was provided after all. Overall, we slept well and it was clean and private. I would not stay here again unless all other options at this price point in this location are rented.

The cottage in Phippsburg
The cottage in Phippsburg is well located, comfortable, safe, and charming. We visited in mid-October, but we were warm with just a radiator style space heater as it boasts thermopane windows and a weather tight concrete foundation. The craftsmanship in the cottage, and especially the bunk house, is fascinating. Morse’s Mountain beach access, the Basin Trail system, Head Beach, and more than one place to buy lobsters practically off the boat, are all nearby to this great base of operations for Small and West Point explorations.

Cute little cottage got a really good price
This place is cute, clean, and really convenient to the city of Bath. Owner is really nice, and pleasant to chat with. Property is well taken care of, and well maintained. The only thing I would say is you have to be observant when looking for the sign. If you don't see the street sign look for the boat parking sign
