Overall ok

The refrigerator was shot. We had to put what little food we could fit in the freezer. I thought we would have the smoker grill from photo however it was a different rusty one but made it work. All in all it was a cool old cabin but the fridge and no central air was the pits.

Summer Vacation

Property location was ideal for our family. Swimming hole was the highlight. Far enough away the baby couldn't get to it but our larger 3 kids could. Stream was wonderful.

Great location

We stayed a weekend and with the chaos of the strip, we wanted something just outside Gatlinburg. This is the perfect location. Pittman Center. So quiet and just far enough off the road that you hear no noise. Cabin was sound proof as well. Very clean! Will stay again!

cabin

We had a great time. The cabin was clean and conveniently located. It was small but nice. The blinds were not the best, there were gaps. You couldn't sit comfortably and watch tv on raining days. the floors in multiple areas were weak you could feel it sink in.

An OK cabin with a nice location

Stayed 5 days at this cabin. Overall enjoyed stay however the pictures are decieving in a few ways: -unlike the pictures the cabins DO NOT back right up to the river. Your actually a few hundred feet away in a half circle with the other cabins -The cabins do not come with central a/c and ours did not have its own a/c unit in each bedroom. Would be fine in the winter but made for some miserable sleeping at night in july. At least they provided a few box fans. -The pictures in my opinion make it seem like each cabin is fairly secluded, however your with about 5 other cabins spaced less than 15-20 foot apart Other than this i will say the creek you are near by has an excellent swimming hole that we really enjoyed. Overall if your just looking for a place to crash at night this is a decent choice.

Great location, but cabin amenities need updating & cleanliness needs to be addressed.

The location of the property was great; however, the cabin's amenities are in need of updating. The linens, pillows, utensils and blinds all need updating. We had to place a sheet over one of the bedroom windows because the blinds did not close properly. The biggest issue that we had with the property was the cleanliness of it. There was a huge "commercial" garbage can (think McDonald's) in the kitchen; and although it had a fresh bag in it, was covered in filth & had gnats. We also discovered crumbs in the covers and on the nightstand of one of the bedrooms. There was also grime in the utensil drawers. All in all, it did not look like much care went into the cleaning/sanitation of this property. VRBO charges absurd fees to begin with; $80 of which was for "cleaning & preparation". Being charged fees up front, we fully expected the property to be clean. In all honesty, we left the property cleaner than when we arrived...

The Reagan family, one of Gatlinburg's most historic families, began building cabins around 1925. At the time, Otha Reagan worked stripping tanning bark in the Sugarlands area of what is now the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, and his wife, Emma, was a weaver at Arrowmont. In 1923, Otha and Emma had saved enough money $500 to be exact to purchase five acres of land on the Roaring Fork Creek where Brookside Resort is today. Just a few years later they began building small cabins and chicken coops on the property to rent to men who were in the area building the road from Newfound Gap to Clingman Dome. These cabins were built with timbers from the Roaring Fork School House and Church, and some were built from log homes moved straight out of the National Park. Many of the Reagan family's ancestors were even born in these cabins!

In 1971, Gatlinburg Southern Building Code required the remodel of nearly all the buildings in the area to a Bavarian type of exterior, so the Reagan cabins were updated to conform. Not too long after that in 1980, all of the original cabins and chicken houses were moved to their present location in picturesque Emerts Cove by a local river hangout called the Flint Rock Swimming Hole. To make a few larger cabins to accommodate larger families, two of the original cabins were placed on each side of a concrete slab to form a bedroom and a bathroom, and the middle was built to form a living area. Don't worry, though, the cabins haven't lost any of their history rumor has it that old chicken feed bags from the cabins earliest years have been found in their attics! Today's owners, Beville and Lisa Reagan, are proud to bring a little piece of their family's Gatlinburg history to your Gatlinburg vacation!
