About this property

Spacious - Warm - Delightful - Rural - Totara Cottage.

We are Semi rural set on 8 acres, Totara Cottage was built in the 70s as a workers cottage for the then Totara Vineyard.
A self contained, stand alone one bedroom cottage, which has been recently renovated, retaining its charm in the process. The original 2 bay milking shed on the property dates back to 1945.

It is a lovely place and hosts are accomodating and thoughtful. Just FYI there is no wifi which makes this the a great place to "unplug".

This place was an absolute pleasure & privilege to stay at. The peace & quiet, & oh so tranquil!! In the countryside so lovely & dark at night & the stars so bright! No TV or Radio was an added bonus because you could just relax & drink in the peace & beauty! Sit on the deck to enjoy your meals & relax. Gorgeous sheep with black faces in the paddock next door, & the occasional rabbit in the field & lots of local bird life. Our hosts Austin & Jane were amazing & we got on so well & nothing was any trouble! Friends for life. If you’re wanting a country experience in NZ this is the place to go. You can’t go wrong & we’d love to stay longer next time!! Thanks so much for having us ! Blessings Ruth F

A lovely retreat!

Great communication with the hosts. This little cottage is an absolute delight for a romantic weekend! It was quiet & private with more than enough provided to ensure a comfy cosy stay. Breakfast included a range of tea & coffee choices along with orange juice, muesli, cereal, fresh fruit, yoghurt & croissants. Located close to a number of wedding venues & dining options, plus the spectacular Waitakere Ranges with its black sand beaches. We took the relaxing 20 minute drive out to Muriwai Beach to see the wave riders & a magical sunset. A definite favourite!

The property was wonderful! It was so charming and had plenty of natural light. We could see various birds and sheep outside each morning. The owners thoughtfully provided breakfast items. We would definitely recommend it!

Wonderful Stay

Beautiful setting just outside of Auckland. The accommodations are comfortable, spacious with a very modern kitchen. Quiet surroundings in the country, closest neighbour is a flock of sheep the field next door! Easy drive to Auckland, but we took the train in - 12 minute drive to station and 40 minute train ride. Host was very helpful. Highly recommend!

Wonderful

We loved the surroundings with the sheep in the paddock and listening to the birds. The cottage is beautifully furnished and presented, more then we expected. The breakfasts included were great. We loved our stay at Totara Cottage and look forward to another visit.

The Retreat Place

This cottage is the perfect place to retreat. The quiet and expanse of the outdoors invites one to reflect, to listen. I was able to relax, to let stress roll off down the hills.

Cosy rural cottage

Cosy rural retreat, but town only 5 mins away if supplies are needed. Very peaceful, easy to find from directions. Lovely homely touches from from fresh flowers , to a welcome box of chocolates, the cottage has everything you need. Very highly recommended.

Rural retreat

So many little extras that made my stay just perfect. I felt safe, and enjoyed watching the rabbits bouncing through the grass. It is definitely a rural retreat - no shops, beach, or buses. I loved it.

Perfect for a getaway

Lovely, homely, private property, really well set up with great kitchen. Lots of nice little touches like fresh cut flowers and an outside fire pit. Great spot to just watch the birds and lambs. Hosts very accommodating and quick to respond to enquiries which was really appreciated. We visited mid winter and it’s an old building so not the warmest, and we couldn’t work out the heat pump, but there were a couple of oil heaters and very cosy blankets for the sofa plus a very cozy bed, so all in all just a great excuse to wear thick socks and cuddle up. We really enjoyed the stay.

Adorable Cottage & Lovely stay!

We had the best getaway at this stylish cottage. It has beautiful views from every window. It was well provisioned with everything we needed to make our visit very comfortable. Austin and Jane were incredible hosts that absolutely made our stay spectacular. They even went as far to set up the Portacot and stock the cottage with fresh flowers, fruit, snacks, coffee, and milk for our daughter. The cookies were delicious! The cottage had big fluffy robes that we loved during the crisp winter mornings. So grateful for this beautiful escape on our trip to NZ. We loved coffee on the porch and taking in the views. The cottage was also conveniently located to Auckland that we were able to enjoy the museum, aquarium, and sky tower. We hopefully will be back on our next trip! Thank you to our lovely hosts!
