Listed prices include Canadian taxes and cleaning fees.
References from other cottage rental sites can be provided. We are new to VRBO this year.
The cottage has a rustic knotty pine interior for the walls and ceiling. Country/vintage decor. Braided area rugs. Pull down roller shades on all windows for privacy.
The kitchenette includes all appliances to substitute for a full stove: a microwave, a mini oven, double and single electric burners, a covered plug-in indoor grill.
Also provided are: a drip coffee maker, kettle, 2 slice toaster, sandwich toaster, blender, 2 mini-fridges (one indoor, one outdoor), an outdoor freezer with icecubes (made from drinking water), condiments, spice rack, cookware, serveware, silverware, milk bag holder; Popcorn maker and rice cooker available on request.
Firepit skewer sticks, smores basket, logs and kindling, outdoor propane barbecue, barbecue tools, and patio furniture provided. The firepit is close to the lake and the provided bucket to extinguish fires is easy to fill.
Temperature controls include: a window A/C unit, a central ceiling fan inside provides air circulation in both warm and cool weather; a standing portable fan is also in the living room space. The entrance door has a full rollout screen door to let breeze in and keep bugs out in warm weather. When the roll out screen door is used with the open north window, a good cross breeze cools the interior. Three baseboard heaters (including one in the bathroom) warm up the entire cottage nicely. Set the temperature to your comfort level.
Wifi password in the Cabin Manual and a large table allow guests to work/stay connected in front of the lake! Mousepad, writing paper, electric pencil sharpener, power bar, pens, pencils provided. Cell phones work well.
Nearby facilities include: grocery and convenience stores, golf courses, Kawartha ice cream store, shops, restaurants, LCBO, libraries, laundromats, Community Centre with a strong wifi signal, RPM Marina on HWY 35 for renting motorboats.
Inside the cottage is a Haliburton Area binder, which includes information on nearby facilities, attractions, events, points of interest (scroll down to "location" for details).
This guest cottage is 70 feet away from our own cottage. Both buildings have their own shoreline and outdoor furniture/amenities (nothing is shared). Mature vegetation throughout the property and window coverings give a lot of privacy to both buildings.
Guest access
Guests can access the entire cottage, outdoor sitting area which includes the firepit, hammock, canoe, kayaks, private island, and shoreline. The shoreline slopes gently and is rocky, not sandy.
Please watch your step when walking around outside to avoid tripping, as the rocks are uneven.
The lake is part of a wonderful 3 lake chain. It does not have problems with algae blooms and is very clean. Our shoreline is rocky, has no weeds, and has a gentle slope for going into the lake. Confirmed fish species in the lake include big and smallmouth bass, walleye, laketrout, lake whitefish.
A car is needed to access the property. No car? No problem! Taxi service is available from the nearby towns serviced by buses. One free parking space for guests.
Being on a peninsula with breeze keeps the mosquito numbers down! In terms of clothing, please know that mosquitoes are attracted to dark colours, as well as red, orange and aqua - best to avoid wearing those colours.
A recent fire behind neighbouring cottages was caused by cigarettes - therefore we kindly ask guests to refrain from smoking, not only inside the cabin, but also outdoors.
Fire and Water Safety guidelines are detailed in the Cabin Manual.

What makes this property unique
The property is on a peninsula and gives the feeling of being on an island, while not losing the convenience of road access. Additionally, the property has a small private island connected by a bridge which offers another little sanctuary of nature and peace. The mini cottage is steps from the water, allowing guests to hear the waves from inside and truly feel close to nature.
