About the name Giddy Betsy: Giddy Betsy is a mine that was told to have produced “marvelous riches” on the north slopes of Mount Elbert. According to an old prospector, Giddy Betsy worked the mine for many years until his health declined and he decided to return home. Upon his deathbed he gave his oldest son a simple map and dictated a letter detailing the route to the mine. After Giddy passed, his son was eager to find the mine. They searched many times and returned every summer for a number of years but never located it.

There’s no end to the outdoor activities you can enjoy here, from mild scenic hikes to ultra-athletic pursuits, and we’re not limited by season. Head out on a fall colors bike ride, ski or snowshoe, go fly fishing, or climb the fourteeners! And as for the great indoors, we have plenty of restaurants, shops and historical attractions.
Getting Around:
Leadville is a very walkable city, driving to downtown is recommended from Grand West Resort. Downtown leadville has lots of street parking and public parking areas.

Altitude sickness is real. In Leadville/ Twin Lakes, the elevation can be up to 10,000 feet. Symptoms can include dizziness and nausea, so please be mindful of this. We cannot offer refunds for guests experiencing altitude sickness. If you anticipate being affected, we recommend obtaining insurance at the time of booking.
