About this property
Kelp Cabin - intimate, calm and restful
Kelp Cabin is an intimate portal to the world of calm, restful and good old-fashioned laid-back times.
Perched high in the lush green bushy hill, Kelp Cabin offers ‘big person’ tree house vibes.
Overlooking the peaceful bay of White Beach with easy access to iconic Port Arthur historical sites, isolated shorelines and the beautiful Tasman National Park.
A perfect little Tassie shack to either sit back, relax and do absolutely nothing, or launch all your adventures on the Tasman Peninsula.
We are so excited to open our door and share our beautiful and ever-evolving space with you!
Our peaceful open-plan cabin is surrounded by trees, the full-length deck offering up space to sit amongst the leaves and breathe in the Tassie goodness. Vistas of the bay and kunanyi mountain stretch beyond, skies opening up to glowing, warm sunsets or speckled starlit nights.
Our bedroom offers a luscious king-size bed where you can wrap yourself in soft, luxurious organic linen and savour those amazing bedroom views.
Our open-plan space emulates the good old fashion beauty of Tassie times with bespoke hand-crafted furniture, leather sofas and chairs for kicking back, and an evolving eclectic mix of art and furnishings.
Fitting with days gone by of the Tassie shack times that we grew up with, you will find we have prioritised “disconnection” to pace and more “connection” to people and place – so no wifi, Netflix or DVDs here! In place, you will find a beautiful selection of our favourite novels and books (please leave these when you leave as some are our personally treasured reads), board games, yoga mats and art supplies to keep you entertained… there is a TV with some local channels, but occasionally if there is heavy rain, wind or inclement weather you might not get reception.
Our fully equipped kitchen has you sorted to cook up a storm
- surely the way to anyone’s heart is through a soulfully home-cooked meal?!… but yeah, no dishwasher- take your time mindfully scrubbing as you look out at those peaceful views.
And while you’re on your holidays, do yourself a favour and skip the clothes washing! There are no laundry facilities at the Kelp Cabin, but if you get stuck Port Arthur has your back with a public laundromat.
Did we mention how beautiful our beach is? Did we mention the benefits of cold-water swimming? Go on, live a little and plunge on in - other than the organic cotton shower towels provided, we have some beach towels at the ready for you too.
Kelp Cabin is the perfect space to kick back with a glass of red or a cuppa and simply watch the day go by, but if you're after some adventure we will have some local advice sitting on the hand-made coffee table ready for you when you get here too!
Come share our story, share our place, and relax in our space. We welcome you with open arms to the Kelp Cabin.
Information for house access, instructions and hot tips and highlights of the area will be provided via email before your stay.
Guests have exclusive access to Kelp Cabin and the land on which the property sits, so you can sit back, relax and take in the calming vistas and bird song in peace.
You won’t have access to sheds, caravan and under-house storage.
The entrance to Kelp Cabin is accessed by a set of stairs. We embrace living with nature in Tassie and our lives shall not be ruled by straight lines and concrete- so our driveway is gravel and steep with sheltered parking underneath the house. You may need to be tactical and plan your attack in advance on entering and exiting both in your car and on foot. There is plenty of space to rock out a three-point-turn at the bottom of the drive and it is fine for all cars if driven mindfully.
We are available by phone from 8 am to 8 pm if you have any questions during your stay.
We would love it if you could message us when you have arrived safely and also a message on leaving is appreciated so we can clean as early as possible for our next guests.
Please please let me know as soon as you can if there are any issues at all so I have a chance to take the appropriate action to ensure your stay is it should be - totally stress-free and relaxing!!
I am not always unable to personally check the house before your arrival. I am heavily reliant on my housekeeper and I need to know as soon as possible if you and therefore I have been let down in any way by the presentation of Kelp Cabin.
Kelp Cabin is located in White Beach a short drive from the Port Arthur Historic site, the Three Capes Track, and the many stunning beaches and nature trails where you can soak up everything the Tasman Peninsula has to offer.
Places to visit include Port Arthur Historic Site, Three Capes Track, Fortesque Bay, Waterfall Bay, Coal Mines Historic Site, Tasman Golf Club, Remarkable Cave, Tasman Devil Conservation Park, Federation Chocolate Factory, William McHenry and Sons Distillery, Blow Hole, and Tasman Arch, Devils Kitchen, and Tessellated Pavement, Doo Town, Crescent Bay, Cape Raul, Cape Huay, Shipsterns Bluff, White Beach and many more attractions.
Kelp Cabin is located in White Beach, roughly 1½ hrs drive from Hobart and 70min from Hobart airport. It’s very advisable to top up fuel and food in Sorell before venturing to turrakana/Tasman Peninsula. There are limited eating-out options on ‘the ninch’ so think ahead.
Phone reception is limited on the Tasman Peninsula- there is coverage for Telstra at the Cabin, but we hold no guarantee for any other phone services.
Kids?? We have kids, we know kids and we love kids, but unfortunately, this treasured little getaway is more suited to couples looking for peaceful times and is not suitable or safe for toddlers or kids. There are lots of other lovely getaways in the area suitable for family stays, please let us know if you need some guidance for this.
Ask us about a later check out, we will always try and help your stay be a relaxing one where we can.
