Our Outdoor Space:
Enjoy the great Canadian outdoors! Relax on the grass by the water with a glass of wine, get comfortable and cozy with a warm blanket by the fire pit or hop into the hot tub on a cool evening as the sun sets for the day.
Our cottage features a spacious, fairly level green lawn, beautiful mature maple and birch trees, a fire pit, a wrap-around deck with patio furniture and a Napoleon Barbeque, and an all-season hot tub. Included with your stay are two kayaks, two stand up paddle boards, a pedal boat, and a 14 foot aluminum fishing boat with 9.9 HP motor available at additional cost (available for week-long stays only).
On the other side, the cottage is hidden from the road by a row of tall ever-green trees offering privacy from the road and the neighbours across the road.
Important Note: We do have neighbours on both sides. On the right side, there is a fence that separates our property from our neighbour's. On the left, there is no fence and our property is "marked" by the trees, big and small, that run along the driveway and down to the water. You will see green grass and kind of a "pathway" that stretches all the way to the water. This is our neighbours' property and they use it to access their dock (meaning that you may see people walking down that little stretch).
Our Waterfront:
We are on the north end of Rice Lake, right near the mouth of the Trent River flowing from the lake. Rice is a shallow and weedy lake. This aquatic vegetation is part of the local aquatic ecosystem with rich biodiversity and is host to numerous species of birds, amphibians and fish. Our shoreline is home to frogs, turtles, catfish, bass, pike, walleye, swans, geese and one Great Blue Herron! The growth of vegetation around our shoreline depends on various factors outside of our control, like how warm winter was, for example. Our shoreline is not privately owned and falls under the jurisdiction of Parks Canada because the Trent-Severn Waterway is a National Historic Site. Due to this reason, the surrounding vegetation or existing species cannot be touched without a special permit from Parks Canada (exception is fishing during the appropriate season and with a valid fishing license). Our waterfront, and the greater Trent-Severn Waterway, offers exceptional boating, plentiful fishing and serene landscapes!
Guest Access:
Our guests have exclusive private access to the entire cottage, the surrounding property, deck, hot tub, fire pit and dock, but we can be available if needed.
Parking is available for up to four vehicles on the driveway (the gravel only, not the grass).
The cottage accommodates up to 6 adults or children, with no exceptions. Our well and septic systems cannot accommodate a larger group and we only have a total of 6 comfortable sleeping spaces without flowing into the common areas.
Please note that this is the maximum number of people that can be on the property at any one time. Please also abide by our quiet hours policy of between 11pm and 10am and absolutely no parties or events are permitted on the premises.
Security:
Our property has two Nest cameras, one facing the driveway and one facing the waterfront and our front door is equipped with a Nest Yale Smart Lock system and we provide a unique code for each guest/ group. Our living room is also equipped with a Nest smoke detector.
