About this property

Bowhill Grange - Shepherds Rest

Shepherd’s Rest

Nestled beneath a canopy of pine trees, Shepherds Rest has sweeping views towards Table Mountain and overlooks hundreds of acres of prime sheep pasturelands.

It has recently undergone a complete renovation to better reflect its wonderful location and to meet guest expectations.

The cottage has one bedroom, a light filled open plan living room and small kitchen equipped with a mini oven and portable induction hob that is suitable for preparing simple meals.

The space
Originally constructed in the early colonial days at a neighbouring property, the cottage had been abandoned for many years when the sandstone was given a new lease of life by local stonemasons in 1982 when it was dismantled and rebuilt in its current location.

Tastefully furnished to reflect and complement its wonderful location and to provide a relaxing, comfortable and restorative country escape.

Shepherd’s Rest is the perfect place for couples to unwind and soak up the beauty of the Southern Midlands alternatively it is a great base to explore further afield with Hobart, Launceston, the East Coast and the Central Highlands all within an hours easy drive.

Oatlands itself is a major attraction with the greatest number of intact Georgian sandstone buildings in Australia and a number of significant colonial buildings. Several great coffee shops and of course the not to be missed recently opened Callington Mill distillery and restaurant.

Shepherd’s Rest is a warm, comfortable, contemporary space with soft linen covered furnishings, wood heater, a big country kitchen island bench and both the bedroom and living area are flooded in natural light. After a day spent exploring return to the warmth and comfort of the cottage and soak in our claw foot bath or enjoy a cool drink on the private front porch and watch the sunset or count the sheep.

Our platters have proved to be very popular and many of our guests find it convenient to stay in and have a large platter delivered. Just ask for details when booking.

Other things to note
This cottage has a small kitchenette. Note that there is no large stove but we have supplied a great Cuisineart airfryer oven that can be used effectively for any reheating, cooking or grilling. There is also a portable induction hot plate with saucepans and frying pan. A kitchenette that is suitable for simple holiday meals.

The cottage has one bedroom and the single bed is in the main bedroom.

The internet provided is fine for recreational use but may not be suited to serious business or important zoom meetings.
