We are a couple with a 4 year old from the prairies originally and both came to the coast for university and stayed since. We will be going on an extended trip before our daughter starts kindergarten and are opening up our home while we're away. Housing is short in this region and it's a desirable place for people to come from all over to experience the last standing old growth temperate rainforests, majestic mountain ranges and vast ocean and beach areas. We love it here and know others do too!
Why they chose this property
Centrally located, the neighborhood is close to everything we need while feeling a bit 'out there' at the same time. The Gorge is a beautiful waterway running through parks and trails, connected to the Cuthburt Holmes forest. Dog walkers, runners, kids and paddlers enjoy this area for it natural spaces and urban amenities.
What makes this property unique
Our place is a character home built in 1921 that we lifted it to add a fully finished area at ground level. While doing the lift there was an opportunity to upgrade and refinish much of the upstairs as well to give it another 100 years of life. We also took on the yard and planted a whole bunch of fruit trees amongst the large vegetable garden and herb patches. The front yard in the summer is all flowers, edible shrubs and no grass. The backyard is private, quiet, and little oasis for gardeners and nature lovers. A combination of edibles, beneficial plants, bird and bee habitats, a couple of greenhouses, and quiet sitting spaces, the lush plantings are admired by visitors and those that live here.
