About this property

Fisherman's Paradise and Country Retreat on Kerr Reservoir

This secluded, spacious house is perfect for your fishing retreat or family reunion. Located on the edge of Kerr Reservoir and forests, surrounded with airy covered porches, and equipped with the perfect cleaning station to work your catch, this is the ideal location for your get-together and uninterrupted fishing extravaganza.

Walk or drive down to 2 large private floating docks that can accommodate several boats (and sunbathers!). Wildlife and gentle breezes accompany your visit, as you shed the hurry and tension of life in town. Toss a horseshoe game in the evening and watch for the shy, wild turkeys and deer take their stroll across the bottom field.

This is our family's country house, and some of our belongings are there, too. You will feel right at home, settling in with your friends, and will be sad to leave this beautiful estate, there are no other houses to distract from velvety black skies at night or the quiet of an early morning.

Traditional 2-story home, set on high foundation. All stairs (interior and exterior) have normal handrails; childproof gates/barriers are NOT provided by owner.

Secluded, well-kept, great fishing
Beautiful, secluded property. Clean home with all the comforts needed. Floating dock worked great for our boats and although the water was high, we still caught a lot of fish. Hope to make it back sooner than later!

Quiet Time
We loved the space! Covered porch was wonderful. We could be outside even in the rain. We had the whole water space to ourselves! The little boys loved fishing and swimming.

Also Jetskier Paradise
While this is listed as a fisherman’s paradise, it worked very nicely for a weekend of playing on jet skis. Kept them tied at the dock after putting in at the ramp near Rudd’s Marina. Lots of sleeping space meant the kids could bring friends too. The kitchen was well equipped with plenty of dishes and utensils.

Beautiful Retreat
The house and grounds are a wonderful retreat for a big family. Lots of room for everyone. The house is full of light, the wrap-around porch a delight to watch a rainstorm, have conversation, and listen to nature. The docks are great for star-gazing. The fish-cleaning station is a great feature! The kitchen is nice and big for multiple cooks. We enjoyed the seclusion and privacy of the extensive grounds. We would love to return again!

Large home; lots of land; on a lake.
Completely remodeled older country home on John Kerr Reservoir. Lots of room for kids of all ages to run and play. Lake a short walk - complete with dock for your boat. 5bdrm 2 baths and an outdoor shower! Large well-appointed kitchen. Although this property does not have wifi or online pay do not let it stop you from considering for your next get away!

Best country river retreat you will take.
We had a great time. The layout of the property was perfect. Lots of space to do whatever your heart desires in the country wirh the added bonus of the river. That was also perfect the layout of the ri er makes tou feel like it is just you out there. The house was also spacious. Nice comfortable beds and updated appliances and showers. The wrap around first leve porch was wonderful for the younger kids while the big kids took over the balcony. We will be making this our family rental throughout the year.

Peaceful country property, fun Lake activities
We had a wonderful weekend at Violets Grove. The porches were the perfect place to sit and relax and play games. The kitchen was exceptionally stocked and the beds were all very comfortable. The docks were so fun. Great places to swim and fish. We brought packed boards and our kayak and they allowed us to explore the lake a bit more. That part of Kerr Lake is not frequented by boaters and it was very quiet. We will come back!

Perfect Place for a Family Getaway
A great place for our family getaway to celebrate multiple significant birthdays. Ten of us and plenty of room for everyone. Two nice docks on the lake, perfect for swimming of fishing. Off a quiet cove on Kerr lake, well protected from the wind on the main channel. Water level in the lake was very high with lots of debris in the main channel, but clear calm water there, perfect for boating, fishing and swimming. We had a great Memorial Day weekend and will definitely be back.

Excellent Property - We loved it!
Spent 3 nights at Violet's Grove on a fishing trip weekend. The property is very nice. We saw turkeys and deer out in the fields on two mornings. The house is roomy and well equipped. Everything was in great shape and we really enjoyed out stay. We felt like it was home and we will be looking to rent this property again.

The Perfect Getaway!
I've either rented this property or have been a guest of friends who've rented for many years. This is one of my favorite destinations because the kids forget about their electronics and actually engage (and enjoy) in activities making it a traditional family vacation. There's so much to do beyond the lake with the large amount of land this house sits on. Whether it's making s'mores around the fire pit, a game of kickball or slip n' slide wiffle ball, we are never bored. The private cove is so secluded that we feel safe with the kids paddle boarding or kayaking to nearby shorelines. It's even rare we see a boat on popular holiday weekends! The large covered wrap-around porch is perfect for relaxing on the porch in any type of weather. The house is perfect for multiple families, there's plenty of space and the kitchen is fully stocked. If you want to create a summer family tradition, I highly recommend a trip to Violet's Grove!

Relaxing!
We had a little family reunion there and everyone really enjoyed it. The owner is very nice and easy to work with. Great big yard for kids to run around. I keep picturing a few horses there :-). The kitchen could have been a little more organized. The pantry can use some cleaning. Quite a few expired food items. But overall, we were satisfied and will definitely go back.

Amazing place to stay!
We stayed here for a long weekend and enjoyed every single second. It is perfectly secluded but close enough to town to get ice/groceries, etc. We rented a pontoon from a nearby marina and spent the day tooling around on the lake which was perfect and not anywhere near crowded. We will definitely be renting this property again! It was well stocked, sheets provided, spotless upon arrival. We had 8 adults and 4 children and there was room for us all to spread out. I can't stress enough how much we enjoyed our stay. Thank you!

Wonderful Stay
Our family of 12 was easily accommodated at Violet's Grove. We enjoyed the peace and quiet, watching the deer and groundhogs from the porch swing, and the ease of having the boat docks. The owners were easy to work with, the house was comfy and clean, and the kitchen well stocked. We will definitely be back to stay again at Violet's Grove.

Great week at the Lake
Wonderful location in rural Virginia with beautiful farms on the roads to this house. House had great outside space for us and the kids to hang out, throw Frisbee, play horseshoes. The fire ring was great for a camp fire. The dock was very functional for docking boat and for swimming. We took kayaks and had a great time exploring the coves near the house. The big kitchen and large dining room table, the large wraparound porch, make it easy to hold the large group the house will sleep. Thank goodness for the outside shower as there is only one shower in the house (upstairs is just a tub). We became quite fond of the outside shower with my nephew begging his dad to build one at their mountain house :)

Best Place to go EVER
We used to go to this house throughout college (centrally located in middle of VA) since it was easy to meet up with friends from all over the mid-atlantic: VA Tech, Radford, JMU, ODU, Duke, or UNC. We would have an amazing time cooking out, throwing horseshoes, shooting trap, or sometimes just floating on the lake all day with firends. Pontoon rentals in Clarksville are just a few minutes down the road and can easily be navigated to one of their 3 docks, kept overnight and be ready to go in the a.m. Invite your firends with bass boats and jet skis - the lake is almost always glassy and ready to get ripped up. Now that I'm older and have a family, the fun only gets better watching my kids enjoy the nature and seculusion you only get when you turn off the pavement and drive down gravel roads out to a gorgeous piece of Virginia. This house has the only right of way to an entire penninsula and the other side of the lake is Occoneechee State Park - you truly get away from the noise of everyday life. This place can easily accomodate a crowd. Stay for a week. You wont regret it!

Beyond Words
The pictures and reviews for this property does not do it justice. The house, yard, porches, and its surroundings are breathtaking. The owners were easy to communicate with. The house had everything I needed. I cannot name one thing that disappointed us. Absolutely no problems.

Great Place
We stayed the weekend of 4th of July. This is a wonderful place, quiet and roomy. We had 10 people in our party and had plenty of room. The wildlife was amazing...we saw deer, raccoons, groundhog, and fox. The decks are great where we spent most of our time. This is a great and quiet spot for r & r. The owners were very accomadating with all request.. and just wanted to mention the beds were super comfy.:)

Loyal Fans of Violet's Grove
I am just returning from my fourth stay at Violet's Grove...will return in July for a long weekend. This has become a family tradition with us. This is country living at its best. The cove that Violet's Grove is nestled in is like having your very own private lake. We may see two or possible three other boats while doing various water activities. This is great if you like water sports such as wake boarding, skiing, tubing, etc. The fishing is good also. We caught a catfish that took three people to haul in and my son caught a gar (spelling??) that was quite large and gave him a good fight. The beds are very comfy, large TV with dish network, and a new porch. You will not be disappointed if you rent this home.
